Former Man United goalkeeper David De Gea appears to be changing his mind about playing in the Saudi Pro League. According to multiple reports, De Gea recently engaged in talks with SPL side Al Shabab.

De Gea has been a free agent since his contract with Manchester United expired in the summer. The Spaniard rejected an offer from Saudi Arabia at the time, preferring to remain in Europe.

Since then, De Gea has been linked with multiple clubs, including La Liga’s Betis and Premier League’s Newcastle United, but neither move came to fruition. The 33-year-old player is still holding hopes to sign with a European club but reportedly has become more open to a move to Saudi Arabia as his options dwindled down.

Al-Shabab is currently sitting 11th in the Saudi Pro League standings. They already have several players who used to play in Europe, including former Wolverhampton Wanderers’ center back Romain Saïss and Belgian star winger Yannick Carrasco.

Aside from De Gea, the Al-Shabab is reportedly also targeting several big names. They are on the verge of completing a deal with Croatian veteran Ivan Rakitic while also targeting Fulham’s Andreas Pereira and Newcastle’s Miguel Almiron. The club also approached manager Jose Mourinho shortly after he was sacked by AS Roma.

Former Manchester United David de Gea is surprisingly still a free agent, but it isn’t because of a lack of offers. Reportedly, de Gea is taking a patient approach and considering various options, one of which could be a move to Major League Soccer.

According to English media outlet The Sun, de Gea currently has an offer on the table from Saudi Arabia side Al Nassr that would see him earn more than £500,000-a-week in salary. However, the player isn’t keen on the move and would rather join Inter Miami.

De Gea is believed to be attracted to Miami for several reasons. Besides the opportunity to live in the United States and be a part of the rising league, he would also get to play with familiar faces in fellow former Spain national team members Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.

There are several other clubs, however, that could provide Inter Miami a tough competition for de Gea’s services. This includes La Liga’s Valencia and Manchester United, who would be interested in a short-term deal with their former goalkeeper as their current No. 1, Andre Onana, plans to play at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Manchester United hasn’t been a Premier League title contender for the past several years, but the team’s goalie David De Gea believes this will change next season.

After a poor start of the season, Man Utd bounced back in the second part of 2019/20 and find themselves in a position to claim a UEFA Champions League spot for the next season. According to De Gea, the team now looks to carry over this momentum into 2020/21 and finally challenge the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.

“We are Manchester but it’s been too long without competing for important things and I think from now on, starting next season, we have to compete for those big titles,” De Gea told reporters in a recent interview with DAZN Espana.

De Gea is one of the rare players on Man Utd’s current roster that knows how it feels to lift the Premier League trophy. He arrived at the club in 2011 and was part of the title-winning squad in 2012/13.

“I know what it is like to win a Premier League with this club. I know what it means to win something big,” he added. “I want people to know again what this club is, and I want to help with that. And I hope I can stay many years here.”
