Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are scheduled to face off in what could potentially be their final showdown after Inter Miami confirmed its participation at the Riyadh Season Cup. Inter Miami is set to face Al Hilal on January 29 before playing against Ronaldo’s Al Nassr on February 1.

“These matches will offer important tests for our team, which will benefit us as we approach the new season,” Miami sporting director Chris Henderson announced. “We’re excited for our group to get the chance to go up against teams with as much quality as Al-Hilal and Al Nassr.”

Messi and Ronaldo have played against one another on 36 occasions, with Messi’s team winning 16 matches and Ronaldo’s team winning 11. During these matches, Messi has scored 22 goals and provided 11 assists while Ronaldo has racked up 21 goals and one assist. Messi and Ronaldo previously faced off when the former traveled with his then-club PSG to participate in the Riyadh Season Cup earlier this year, defeating a team of SPL All-Stars 5-4.

Cristiano Ronaldo missed Juventus’ recent UEFA Champions League match against Barcelona due to a positive coronavirus test, but that didn’t stop the La Liga side’s social media team from taking a jab at him.

After Barca got a 2:0 win in Turin, the club’s social media page sent out a tweet reading: “We are glad you were able to see the real goat (emoji) on your pitch @juventusfcen!,” while attaching a picture of Lionel Messi.

This was an obvious joke at Ronaldo’s expense, considering he is Lionel Messi’s greatest rival for the title of greatest of all time AKA “GOAT.”

But, Barca sure didn’t expect an equally effective comeback.

Juventus quickly responded by tweeting: “You probably looked it up in the wrong dictionary. We’ll bring you the right one at Camp Nou.”

This certainly entertained the social media users and sparked the Ronaldo vs. Messi debate that died out a bit since the Portuguese superstar left Real Madrid. It is hard to believe that the debate will ever be settled since both players have great credentials, but at least we can enjoy the process.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are two of the best soccer players in the world in the last 10 years and are perceived as being bitter rivals. But, as it turns out, although they are competing against each other every year, they still have great respect for each other.

Messi recently did an interview with Argentine radio station Radio C5N and said that he misses having Cristiano Ronaldo in Spain. Ronaldo decided to leave Barcelona’s bitter rivals Real Madrid after nine years in the offseason and sign with Juventus.

“I miss Cristiano in Spain,” – said Messi. “It was lovely having him here, even though it annoyed me seeing him win so many titles. It would be great if he was still here.”

The 31-year-old Argentinean also added that Ronaldo gave La Liga prestige and that thanks to him Juventus are now a great candidate to win the Champions League.

Although Lionel Messi may be missing Cristiano Ronaldo in Spain, he can’t deny that the departure of the 34-year-old Portuguese didn’t make things a lot easier for him. Without Ronaldo, Real Madrid has been playing poorly the entire season which gave Barca an opportunity to assert their dominance in the league. Messi is also without any real competition for all of the individual La Liga awards and is now the league’s unchallenged biggest star.

Ronaldo, on the other hand, replicated his amazing performances from Spain in Italy and already managed to score 19 goals in 26 matches in Seria A. He also added four goals in seven matches in Champions League.

Barcelona’s superstar Lionel Messi continues to shatter soccer records while making his case for one of the greatest soccer players in the history of the sport. The 31-year-old Argentinian claimed the Golden Shoe award on Tuesday for being Europe’s best goalscorer in the last season. This was the fifth time that he managed to do this feat in his career, something no one did before him.

When I started playing I did not expect all this. My dream was, obviously, to be a professional, but I didn’t imagine so much,” – said Messi upon receiving the award. “This is thanks to hard work and effort and, above all, my teammates. I have the best players in the world in their positions playing beside me and that makes everything easier and lets me win these prizes.

Lionel Messi scored 34 goals in 2017-18 in La Liga, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah came second with 32 goals while Tottenham’s Harry Kane was third with 30. Cristiano Ronaldo, who also had four Golden Shoe awards before the last season, failed behind with modest 26 goals for his standards.

It shouldn’t be surprising if Messi manages to get another Golden Shoe on his shelf next year. He is currently leading all scorers in national leagues with 14 goals from 14 matches.

If you are a soccer fan of any kind, then you’ll immediately recognize the names of Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) and Lionel Messi (Barcelona). These two are the biggest soccer stars in the last decade and only ones who are included in the conversation about the best soccer player in the world at this moment. They are the best and biggest, but who is better among the two? Today we decided to weigh in on the question.

Now, it looks like more people tend to lean towards Messi as a better player. One of the major reasons for that is that the Argentinian is more relatable. He is perceived as shy, isn’t so outspoken, so people tend to think of him as a humble man. C. Ronaldo, on the other hand, is viewed as selfish and arrogant at times, which didn’t do well for him in terms of likability. Still, C. Ronaldo is a better player and here is why.

Forget the number of goals, assists, and similar. Both of them are close in all of the statistical categories, individual awards and club trophies. Yes, Ronaldo has a two-year advantage, but people also tend to forget he played in the midfield early in his career while Messi always had an attacking minded. It’s the game of soccer that shapes Ronaldo as a better individual.

The Portuguese is almost equally good in all areas of the game. He is an attacking nightmare for the opponents and is able to create something out of nothing on the offensive end while also being a capable defender when needed. He can score with his foot or with his head equally well while being dangerous from set-pieces. Messi might be a better dribbler, but his heading game is non-existent, he can’t win an aerial duel, and his physical stature makes him easy to push around, although the opposing players are avoiding this since Messi gets easy foul calls from the referees.

C. Ronaldo is also a better player because he proved he can perform well everywhere he came. In Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, and Real Madrid; it didn’t take long for Ronaldo to become the biggest star on either of these teams. He can adapt, work with an inferior supporting cast, and he will thrive. Messi, on the other hand, is a system player. His game fits better to Barcelona’s system of play than Ronaldo’s would. But, removed from the system, Messi was never able to perform so spectacularly. Although Messi spent his entire career with Barcelona, we have his performance with Argentinian national soccer team as a sample size.

He has been a leader for the Argentinian team for almost a decade now and failed to win Copa America or World Cup with a squad that has some of the best soccer players in the world.

Although Ronaldo didn’t manage to win the World Cup, he brought his country the first major trophy in history, European Championship. And remember, the competition level is bigger in Europe and Portugal has nowhere near the players that Argentina has.

However, since there are no definitive parameters for determination of one’s quality in soccer, we will never know who is better. But we can argue, right?
