Barcelona’s superstar Lionel Messi continues to shatter soccer records while making his case for one of the greatest soccer players in the history of the sport. The 31-year-old Argentinian claimed the Golden Shoe award on Tuesday for being Europe’s best goalscorer in the last season. This was the fifth time that he managed to do this feat in his career, something no one did before him.

When I started playing I did not expect all this. My dream was, obviously, to be a professional, but I didn’t imagine so much,” – said Messi upon receiving the award. “This is thanks to hard work and effort and, above all, my teammates. I have the best players in the world in their positions playing beside me and that makes everything easier and lets me win these prizes.

Lionel Messi scored 34 goals in 2017-18 in La Liga, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah came second with 32 goals while Tottenham’s Harry Kane was third with 30. Cristiano Ronaldo, who also had four Golden Shoe awards before the last season, failed behind with modest 26 goals for his standards.

It shouldn’t be surprising if Messi manages to get another Golden Shoe on his shelf next year. He is currently leading all scorers in national leagues with 14 goals from 14 matches.

I am a reality TV junkie. My dream since I was a kid was to be on Big Brother, but until then you can catch me binge-watching episodes each summer.
