The Los Angeles Chargers General Manager Joe Hortiz stated that the team is unlikely to part ways with its number five pick in the upcoming NFL Draft unless a highly lucrative offer is received. Although several teams have reached out to the Chargers, Hortiz revealed that none of them has made a formal offer.

“They have to make it attractive for us to move away from those players,” Hortiz commented. He added that a “fair trade” offer would not be sufficient to convince him to send the lucrative draft pick to another team.

With the teams going before the Chargers in the draft all expected to select quarterbacks, coach Jim Harbaugh commented how the Chargers’ pick is basically the number one pick in the draft should the team pursue players in other positions. The Chicago Bears, Washington Commanders, and New England Patriots are all without starting quarterbacks, while the Arizona Cardinals may decide to trade their fourth pick.

The Los Angeles Chargers dismissed coach Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco, the team announced on Friday. This comes after the team has been unable to turn around its fortunes through a disappointing two and a half seasons. Outside linebackers coach Giff Smith will serve as the team’s interim head coach.

“These decisions are never easy, nor are they something I take lightly — especially when you consider the number of people they impact,” Chargers owner Dean Spanos explained. “We are clearly not where we expect to be, however, and we need new vision. Doing nothing in the name of continuity was not a risk I was willing to take. Our fans have stood strong through so many ups and downs and close games. They deserve more. Frankly, they’ve earned more.”

Staley was appointed head coach in 2020 following his success as a defensive coordinator with the Los Angeles Rams, transforming them into the league’s best defense in points and yards allowed per game. Ultimately, this defensive success was never translated to the Chargers, with frustrations reaching boiling point following a 63-21 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen has been ruled out of Thursday night’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders due to a heel injury. Allen’s absence is troublesome for the Chargers, not only because of his fine form this season, but because the Chargers are faced with a series of injury setbacks, with starting quarterback Justin Herbert out for the season with a broken index finger.

Allen has been experiencing his best season to date, setting the Chargers’ all-time record for catches with 108. He is currently leading the league in receptions and ranks fourth overall with a number of yards. “He provides that middle of the field target, or, ‘Hey, if he’s playing outside, I can trust it,'” Chargers coach Brandon Staley said of Allen.

Positive news has come in the form of the return of receiver Joshua Palmer, who was on injured reserve since Week 9 due to a knee sprain. The receiver made five catches for 133 yards in Week 7’s 31-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs before getting injured in the 30-13 Week 8 win over the Chicago Bears.

Quarterback Justin Herbert signed a new five-year deal with the Los Angeles Chargers, keeping him on until 2029. Sources reported on Tuesday that the deal is worth $262.5 million.

Included in the contract is a no-trade clause along with $133.7 million in full guarantees and $193.7 million in injury guarantees. While the team itself announced a new multiyear agreement with Herbert, no specific terms were disclosed in the statement.

Based on its average annual value of $52.5 million, this contract makes Herbert the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history. He has proven to be a crucial part of the Chargers’ roster since being drafted in 2020, helping the franchise to its first playoff appearance last year since 2018.

During his three seasons in Los Angeles, Herbert completed 1,316 career passes, the most in history for any player’s first three seasons. He has thrown 94 career touchdowns, which includes three straight seasons with 25 or more touchdown passes.

“I sleep better at night knowing we have a franchise quarterback,” Chargers general manager Tom Telesco said of Herbert. “He’s done so much already in his young career, yet we all know there’s still a lot there because of his commitment to the game.”

The Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay has decided to remain with the team going into the new season, the team announced on Friday. The update comes after McVay stated during his end-of-season news conference that he would be taking the “appropriate time” to decide on his next move.

Following a 5-12 season, this was McVay’s worst season with the Rams since joining the team in 2017. The team suffered an array of injury setbacks, including that of starting quarterback Matthew Stafford, wide receiver Cooper Kupp and defensive tackle Aaron Donald.

“I know I love football and I’m so invested in this thing and I’m in the moment right now,” McVay explained. “But at some point too, if you said, ‘What do you want to be able to do?’ I want to be able to have a family, and I want to be able to spend time with them.”

Hired by the Rams just before his 31st birthday, Sean McVay was made the youngest head coach in NFL history. With a record of 67-41, McVay has led the Rams to three NFC West titles, two NFC championships, and the Super Bowl LVI in 2022.

The Los Angeles Chargers edge rusher Joey Bosa returned to practice on Thursday for the first time since undergoing groin surgery in Week 3. Bosa complained about continuous groin discomfort until he tore it completely during the 38-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 25.

Despite his prolonged absence, Bosa has experienced confidence in his return to the field, explaining, “I’m feeling really good. It’s kind of revitalizing, honestly.” He has since been designated to injured reserve, meaning that the Chargers will have 21 days to decide whether or not to reactivate him upon returning to fitness.

“His was something that really caused me a lot of pain and kind of stress throughout the last couple of years, and I’ve gotten to a point where I was used to it and I didn’t understand how much was really wrong,” Bosa said of his injury issue. “Obviously, it sucks to miss all this time, but its honestly something that I really, really needed to get done.”

The Chargers are currently 9-6 and are currently second in the AFC West. With a comfortable lead over third-placed Las Vegas Raiders, this is the first time since 2018 that the Chargers have clinched a playoff berth.

The Las Vegas Raiders are no longer undefeated in the 2021 NFL season, courtesy of the Los Angeles Chargers and their star quarterback Justin Herbert.

The Chargers entered the Monday Night Football clash against the Raiders as underdogs but ended up dominating the game and shutting down their opponents in three quarters. The Raiders also had just 51 yards of offense in the first half. This set the stage for Herbert, who finished with 222 passing yards and three touchdowns.

Running back Austin Ekeler also had a big night for the Chargers, rushing for 117 yards and one score while adding a receiving TD.

The Raiders bounced back in the third quarter and scored two touchdowns to make it a game. But that ended up being all Las Vegas had to show for, being unable to carry over the momentum to the final period.

There were no standouts amongst the Raiders on Monday night, as quarterback Derek Carr managed just 196 passing yards while the running game seemed inexistent. They had just 48 rushing yards for the night, with Pro Bowler Josh Jakobs managing just 40 yards with his 13 carries.

The Raiders have now dropped to a 3-1 record and find themselves on the third spot in AFC West. The Chargers own the same record but are leading the division thanks to tiebreakers.

After successfully hosting a number of NFL games over the years, London might be getting its own NFL team soon. According to The Athletic, the league and Los Angeles Chargers are considering moving the franchise to London on a permanent basis.

The Athletic’s Vincent Bonsignore cites league sources who reportedly told him that an idea of moving Chargers to London is beginning to gain traction among team owners and league personnel. On the other side, if the Chargers were presented with this idea, they would also be willing to consider it.

The reason why this is even an option is reportedly the concern among NFL owners that Chargers will fail to establish themselves in Los Angeles. Since relocating to LA in 2017, Chargers have been having trouble getting accepted by the city’s football fans, who overwhelmingly lean towards the LA Rams.

The league is committed to wait out and see whether the Chargers can get any traction in LA at the moment, but if things don’t improve, the London move is bound to get some traction.

Moving to London would definitely have a lot of benefits for the Chargers. Being the UK’s only football team would give the franchise a dedicated fan base and would ensure that they actually have a home crowd opposed to the current situation. Also, they would be in a big market and would have their own stadium.

On the other hand, there is plenty of cons as well. It’s unclear whether the players would accept living in a different country and how issues of traveling and different time zones would be handled.

The Chargers are probably remaining in Los Angeles for now, but don’t be surprised if they are on the move in the future.

Los Angeles Chargers finally received some good news. Chargers’ left tackle Russell Okung has recovered from a pulmonary embolism, which prevented him from playing in 2019, and will be one the team’s roster for Week 7 game against Tennessee Titans.

Okung confirmed the news on social media, posting a statement in which he said he is returning to football and has put the health issues “behind” him.

On Thursday, Okung took part in Chargers’ practice, and said afterward that he is ready to “get back to work” and expects to contribute right away.

“I’ve put a lot into this game,” – Okung added. “And I’m going to trust my abilities and my experience and use that to go out there and help my team win games.”

Russell Okung joined Los Angeles Chargers as a free agent in 2017, signing a four-year, $53 million contract. He played 30 games in the previous two seasons and earned himself a Pro Bowl appearance in 2017; his career second.

Prior to coming to Los Angeles, Okung also played with Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos. With Seahawks, who drafted him into the league with the sixth overall pick in 2010, he won a Super Bowl ring.

Los Angeles Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa will be sidelined until October as he recovers from a foot injury.

The 23-year-old was added to the injury list last Friday after failing to play in week one’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. He also missed Charger’s match against the Buffalo Bills.

Bosa bruised his foot during pre-season practice in August. According to Coach Anthony Lynn, the team’s medical team did not consider the injury serious at the time. After failing to appear in the team’s first preseason game, the defensive end player was sidelined in the Charger’s loss to the Chiefs.

Bosa is not new to injuries. While a rookie in 2016, he missed the first four games of his career dues to a hamstring injury.  He played all games in his second season, notching 23 sacks in his first two seasons.

With Bosa sidelined, the Chargers have Melvin Ingram III in their starting lineup. The 29-year-old has a record of 29 sacks in the past two seasons, making him as defensively gifted as the 23-year-old.

However, Bosa’s absence will still be missed noting that the Chargers don’t have a lot of options in the defensive end. With Ingram with little backup, offensive teams will look forward to attacking the LA-based team on that line.
