The Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen has been ruled out of Thursday night’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders due to a heel injury. Allen’s absence is troublesome for the Chargers, not only because of his fine form this season, but because the Chargers are faced with a series of injury setbacks, with starting quarterback Justin Herbert out for the season with a broken index finger.

Allen has been experiencing his best season to date, setting the Chargers’ all-time record for catches with 108. He is currently leading the league in receptions and ranks fourth overall with a number of yards. “He provides that middle of the field target, or, ‘Hey, if he’s playing outside, I can trust it,'” Chargers coach Brandon Staley said of Allen.

Positive news has come in the form of the return of receiver Joshua Palmer, who was on injured reserve since Week 9 due to a knee sprain. The receiver made five catches for 133 yards in Week 7’s 31-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs before getting injured in the 30-13 Week 8 win over the Chicago Bears.
