Bayern Munich’s star striker Harry Kane continues to make history in his first season in Germany. Kane scored the only goal in Friday’s 1-0 win over FC Cologne to get his goalscoring tally to 18 goals in the first 12 games of the Bundesliga season, which is a new record.

The record was previously owned by Bayern legend Gerd Müller, who had managed 17 goals in the first 12 games of the 1968-69 season.

Kane said after the game that he admires Müller and has watched his clips on YouTube to get familiar with his game.

“I wanted to find out what he was like and how he played,” Kane said for Bayern’s official website. “He was an incredible goalscorer, and from what I hear, above all an incredible person. For me to follow in his footsteps is very special.”

Speaking about the win against FC Cologne, Kane noted that the result doesn’t reflect the way his team dominated the game.

“It was a really good game for us today. Some people look at the result and might have expected a little more. But it was a fantastic game from everyone,” he added. “We could have scored three goals in the first half alone.”

With 18 goals, Harry Kane now also owns the record for most goals scored in Bundesliga in a single season by an Englishman. The previous record was jointly held by Jadon Sancho and Kevin Keegan.

Bayern Munich completed the signing of center-back Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus for a fee of €70 million, it was announced on Tuesday. The deal includes potential performance-based bonuses of up to €10 million.

The 22-year-old player arrived in Munich on Monday to sign a five-year contract with the club, after which he proceeded to complete his medical. He is then expected to join his teammates for the club’s pre-season tour in the United States.

“I’m very happy to become a player for this great club. FC Bayern are the most successful club in Germany, one of the most successful clubs in Europe and in the world,” de Ligt stated in an interview with the club’s website.

The Dutch player arrives in Munich after making 117 appearances for Juventus, during which time he helped the club to win the Serie A in 2019-20 and lift the Coppa Italia the following season. Since then, however, the Italian giants have fallen by the wayside, dropping into the fourth position on the league table in back-to-back seasons.

As the latest summer signing by the Bundesliga champions, de Ligt follows Sadio Mane from Liverpool and former Ajax players Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui to the Allianz Arena in what has been a busy transfer window for Bayern.

Bayern Munich is in the process of completing the signing of midfielder Ryan Gravenberch from Ajax. This comes days after the club completed a deal for his teammate, right back Noussair Mazraoui.

Expected to sign a contract until 2027, the official announcement of the 20-year-old player’s arrival at the club may be delayed until after the completion of his medical and final paperwork.

Gravenberch’s transfer fee is expected to be in the region of €19 million, with add-ons potentially raising it to €25 million. This fee would make Gravenberch the second most expensive signing under the age of 20 in history, behind Renato Sanchez who joined Bayern Munich from Benfica for a price tag of €35 million in 2016. He will also become the joint most-expensive Dutch signing in Bayern’s history, matching the €25 million price tag for Arjen Robben back in 2009.

The holding mid is expected to receive a significant bump in salary. Earning €4 million before taxes per season at Ajax, Gravenberch is expected to earn a cool €10 million per season upon his arrival at the Allianz Arena.

With an estimated market value of €35 million, Gravenberch is currently the highest valued player in the Dutch Eredivisie. Since breaking into Ajax’s first team during the 2020/21 season, Gravenberch has won back-to-back league titles as well as the 2020/21 Dutch Cup.

Bundesliga side Red Bull Leipzig has decided to part ways with head coach Jesse Marsch just four months after the American took office. This comes after the team suffered four consecutive defeats, leaving them in 11th place in the league standings.

The club announced on Sunday that Marsch’s departure comes after he and the club “mutually agreed to part ways.” Having signed a contract with the team in April before taking charge in the summer, Marsch endured a difficult start to his tenure at Leipzig, losing six of the team’s opening 14 matches. In addition, the team lost all of their first three Champions League matches, thereby dashing their hopes of knockout round qualification.

“It was not easy for us to part company with Jesse Marsch, because I hold Jesse in high regard as a person and as a coach,” club CEO Oliver Mintzlaff claimed in a statement. He further explained that the decision to dismiss Marsch was one that was purely reached on performance grounds.

The decision to recruit Marsch came after the American coach proved highly successful during his time with Red Bull Salzburg, leading them to back-to-back titles in the Austrian football league. Prior to arriving in Europe, Marsch played and coached in the MLS. In 2015, he won the Supporters’ Shield with the New York Red Bulls.

Assistant coach Achim Beierlorzer will act as interim coach while the team searches for their successor. He will manage the team in their Champions League clash against Manchester City on Tuesday night.

Bundesliga side Schalke 04 announced on Sunday that the club fired their manager David Wagner following two consecutive losses with a 1-11 differential to start the new season.

Wagner was on the hot seat long before these two defeats, considering the former USMNT striker didn’t record a single league win since January. Schalke’s winless streak is currently at 18 games.

“We hoped that we could turn things around. Unfortunately, the first two matches did not produce the necessary performances and results,” said Schalke’s sports director Jochen Schneider in a statement announcing Wagner’s dismissal. “Despite the disappointing results, this decision was anything but easy for us.”

David Wagner arrived at Schalke in May 2019, following a successful spell in England with Huddersfield Town. He enjoyed a great start in Germany, having the club at No.3 in Bundesliga midway through the 2019/20 season.

However, an unexplainable turn in the form in 2020 saw Schalke concede 48 goals and collect only six points from there. The club finished the past season at No. 12.

According to reports from Germany, Schalke 04 is now expected to turn to former RB Leipzig manager and sporting director Ralf Rangnick. This would be Ragninck’s third spell at the club’s helm, as he managed Schalke between 2004 and 2005, and then again in 2011.

Bayern Munich’s impressive streak of 23 consecutive wins has unceremoniously come to an end. The reigning Bundesliga champions had the opportunity to tie Coritiba’s world record of 24 wins in a row on Sunday but failed short by suffering a heavy 4-1 loss to Hoffenheim.

Hoffenheim got the early lead in the 16th minute thanks to defender Ermin Bicakcic’s header, indicating that it could be a bad day for Bavarian giants. This became obvious just eight minutes later when Hoffenheim increased their lead to 2-0 with Mu’nas Dabbur’s goal.

Bayern managed to strike back before half time via Joshua Kimmich, but this turned out to be all they managed to do. Hoffenheim’s striker Andrej Kramaric scored twice in the second period to close out the game and give his team a huge win and No.1 spot on the Bundesliga table.

The loss to Hoffenheim was also the end of an impressive 32-games unbeaten streak for Bayern, and the first Bundesliga contest in almost a year in which they conceded 3+ goals.

Although it robbed them of the opportunity to grab the world record, it is unlikely that the defeat will hurt Bayern Munich in the long run. The club is fresh from clinching the UEFA Super Cup, which secured them the elusive quadruple alongside the Bundesliga title, German Cup win, and UEFA Champions League trophy. Bayern can also win quintuple on Wednesday when they meet Borussia Dortmund in German Super Cup.

Bayern Munich is Bundesliga champions once again. The Bavarian giants secured their eighth consecutive national title on Tuesday night when they got a 0-1 away win against Werder Bremen.

Bayern established the lead in the first half of the game, thanks to Robert Lewandowski’s volley. Bremen had the chance to extend the suspense when left-back Alphonso Davies received a red card 10 minutes before the end of regular time but failed to capitalize on their attacks.

With three points from this game, Bayern got to 76 points in total and 10 more than their closest follower Borussia Dortmund. This made them uncatchable at the top, considering that Borussia has just three games to play before the end of 2019/20 Bundesliga season.

“We have showed that we are the best team in Germany,” said Lewandowski after the game.

Despite claiming the Bundesliga title, Bayern Munich won’t relax just yet. The club now eyes trophies in German Cup and UEFA Champions League.

“This is Bayern Munich, the goals are always high,” said Bayern’s manager Hansi Flick. “We have now reached our first big goal, the cup is now the next goal, then the Champions League, but you can’t plan for that.”

Bayern will face Bayer Leverkusen in the German Cup final on July 4th, pursuing their second consecutive and 20th overall trophy in the competition.

When it comes to the Champions League, the German club is close to reaching the quarterfinals after beating Chelsea 3-0 in the first round-of-16 game at Stamford Bridge. They have five UCL trophies with the last one coming in the 2012/13 season.

Bundesliga became the first major soccer competition to resume its activities for the 2019/20 season after a suspension due to coronavirus pandemic. The first games were played over the weekend, with eight games taking place on Saturday and Sunday.

Things were a bit different than before, of course, as Bundesliga had strict protocols in place in order to minimize the health risk. The matches were held without the audience, players were instructed not to celebrate goals with their teammates, while also having to social distance and wear masks when off the field.

The continuation of the season saw derby game between Borussia Dortmund and Schalke, with Borussia getting a 4-0 win thanks to Erling Haaland, Thorgan Hazard, and Raphael Guerreiro, who scored twice. Among other results, Borussia Monchengladbach defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 1-3, Hertha trashed Hoffenheim 3-0 while Bayern kept the No.1 spot on the table with 0 – 2 victory over Union Berlin.

Bundesliga originally suspended all activities in early March before allowing the clubs to return to training in mid-April. The clubs were first instructed to organize workouts in smaller groups before transitioning to full training in early May.

The return of Bundesliga is carefully observed by the majority of other European leagues, like Premier League, Seria A, and La Liga, as they plan to resume its activities in June. On the other hand, several other competitions, like French Ligue 1 and Dutch Eredivisie, decided to cancel this season all-together.

The top German professional soccer league is set to become the first major sports competition to return as it hosts eight games over the weekend behind closed doors, six of which will take place on Saturday.

With the exception of the Belarusian Premier League, which has taken place without interruption during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bundesliga will become the first European soccer league to take place during spring 2020.

German soccer has been paused since March 11th, when the last game took place before the worsening of the coronavirus outbreak that has paralyzed many facets of life throughout the world over the past couple of months.

The Bundesliga, which is currently experiencing a tight race at the top between Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, and Borussia Mönchengladbach, will restart with Matchday 26 action on Saturday with six games. On Sunday, two games will also be played.

The highlights of this weekend’s action include a derby between Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04 as well as an Eintracht Frankfurt-Borussia Mönchengladbach with European implications.

Although its games will not be played with the presence of fans, the Bundesliga’s restart over the weekend will be a small step towards normality, at least in terms of sports.

German Bundesliga is set to become the first major soccer league to resume its season. While other soccer competitions like French Ligue 1 and Dutch Eredivisie decided to cancel the remainder of their seasons, Bundesliga is determined to resume playing this month.

According to ESPN, Bundesliga obtained a green light from the German government to resume its activities and will return as early as 15th May. Reportedly, the more realistic date is 22nd May.

Teams have nine matches left to play in 2019/20, and the league hopes to wrap up the season by the end of June. In order to minimize the health risks, the games will be held on empty stadiums while several other measures will be installed to keep the players safe, including one-week quarantine for all the players and frequent testing.

Bundesliga clubs have returned to training since early April in limited participation, with players working out in small groups. Now, as Germany is slowly lifting up restrictions imposed due to coronavirus pandemic, the players are expected to return to full training soon in order to get into competitive form.

Currently, Bayern Munich is on the top of the Bundesliga table with four points more than second-placed Borussia Dortmund. On the bottom of the table, Paderborn and Werder Bremen face a tough task of staying in the league while 16th placed Fortuna Düsseldorf still has a fighting chance to get to the place that saves them from relegation.

Several other high-profile leagues like English Premier League, Seria A, and La Liga are also hoping to resume its activities soon. Reportedly, they are preparing for June restart and will closely watch how Bundesliga handles the situation.
