Bayern Munich’s star striker Harry Kane continues to make history in his first season in Germany. Kane scored the only goal in Friday’s 1-0 win over FC Cologne to get his goalscoring tally to 18 goals in the first 12 games of the Bundesliga season, which is a new record.

The record was previously owned by Bayern legend Gerd Müller, who had managed 17 goals in the first 12 games of the 1968-69 season.

Kane said after the game that he admires Müller and has watched his clips on YouTube to get familiar with his game.

“I wanted to find out what he was like and how he played,” Kane said for Bayern’s official website. “He was an incredible goalscorer, and from what I hear, above all an incredible person. For me to follow in his footsteps is very special.”

Speaking about the win against FC Cologne, Kane noted that the result doesn’t reflect the way his team dominated the game.

“It was a really good game for us today. Some people look at the result and might have expected a little more. But it was a fantastic game from everyone,” he added. “We could have scored three goals in the first half alone.”

With 18 goals, Harry Kane now also owns the record for most goals scored in Bundesliga in a single season by an Englishman. The previous record was jointly held by Jadon Sancho and Kevin Keegan.
