Bayern Munich completed the signing of center-back Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus for a fee of €70 million, it was announced on Tuesday. The deal includes potential performance-based bonuses of up to €10 million.

The 22-year-old player arrived in Munich on Monday to sign a five-year contract with the club, after which he proceeded to complete his medical. He is then expected to join his teammates for the club’s pre-season tour in the United States.

“I’m very happy to become a player for this great club. FC Bayern are the most successful club in Germany, one of the most successful clubs in Europe and in the world,” de Ligt stated in an interview with the club’s website.

The Dutch player arrives in Munich after making 117 appearances for Juventus, during which time he helped the club to win the Serie A in 2019-20 and lift the Coppa Italia the following season. Since then, however, the Italian giants have fallen by the wayside, dropping into the fourth position on the league table in back-to-back seasons.

As the latest summer signing by the Bundesliga champions, de Ligt follows Sadio Mane from Liverpool and former Ajax players Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui to the Allianz Arena in what has been a busy transfer window for Bayern.
