Rookie center Matt Poitras is set to remain with the Boston Bruins. The team had until Tuesday to decide whether or not to return him to the Ontario Hockey League’s Guelph Storm.

“He’s sticking around. He just belongs,” Bruins coach Jim Montgomery explained, adding that it didn’t take long to make a decision on Poitras’ future.

Having played nine NHL games for the Bruins this season, Poitras’ entry-level contract has now been kicked in. Still, Montgomery wanted that the 19-year-old rookie may not remain with the NHL team all season, but that he has impressed the coaching staff enough to stay on with the Bruins in the meantime.

A second-round draft pick in 2022, Poitras scored three goals and five points total in his nine appearances this season. He has provided much-needed depth in the center following the retirement of veteran Patrice Bergeron and the departure of David Krejci.

The Boston Bruins will look a lot different in the 2023-24 NHL season. After the team captain Patrice Bergeron decided to retire back in July, veteran center David Krejci now decided to do the same after playing all of his 16 seasons in the NHL with the franchise.

Krejci announced his decision in a statement released on Monday. The Bruins thanked the 37-year-old player for his contributions to the franchise through several social media posts.

“After 15 full NHL seasons I have decided to retire from the best league in the world,” Krejci wrote in the statement. “I have been very lucky to be on so many good teams and play with so many great players.”

David Krejci made his debut with the Bruins in the 2006–07 season. He initially spent 15 years in Boston, helping the franchise win a Stanley Cup in 2011. Krejci then decided to play the 2021-22 season in his native Czech Republic before returning to the Bruins on a 1-year deal.

Krejci delivered a solid 2022-23 campaign, playing in 70 games and ending the regular season with 16 goals and 40 assists for a total of 56 points. The veteran played a major part in the Bruins’ historic season that saw the team set the league record for most wins and points.

Krejci retires from NHL with 1,032 regular-season games, 231 goals, and 555 points on his resume.

The Chicago Blackhawks continued their busy offseason on Monday by acquiring former Hart Trophy winner Taylor Hall in a trade with the Boston Bruins.

As part of the deal, Blackhawks will also get rights to forward Nick Foligno, who is set to hit the unrestricted free agency. On the other hand, the Bruins received a duo of pending unrestricted free-agent defensemen in, Ian Mitchell and Alec Regula.

While his production has in recent seasons, Taylor Hall can still be considered a coup for the Blackhawks. He is fairly young at the age of 31 and might rediscover some of his past form. Hall had 16 goals and a total of 36 points in 61 games with the Bruins in 2022-23.

The Blackhawks probably hope that Hall’s experience will help their young team, which is looking to establish itself as a contender in the next few years. Hall played for five different franchises so far in his NHL career and has five All-Star nods to go with the NHL MVP award he won in 2018.

The Bruins, on the other hand, likely just wanted to get rid of Hall’s contract that will pay him $6 million in each of the following two seasons. The team gets some much-needed flexibility, going from $5 million under the cap to $11 million they can work with this offseason.

The Boston Bruins continue to show why they are the best team in NHL this season. With the 4-3 win over the St. Louis Blues, the Bruins have now won 60 out of the 77 games played in 2022-23, while no other team has managed to hit the 50-win mark yet.

By getting to 60 wins, the Bruins are one step closer to breaking the NHL’s all-time single-season record. The current record is held by the Detroit Red Wings and the Tampa Bay Lightning, who each managed to win 62 games in a single season. The Red Wings did it in 1995-96, while the Lightning matched in 2018–19.

In order to own the record, the Bruins will have to win three games out of the five they have left in the regular season. They will continue the quest on April 6 against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The 2022-23 campaign is already a historic one for the Bruins, considering they have managed to break several franchise records already. This includes having the most single-season wins and most single-season points (125) in franchise history.

“It’s a great accomplishment, but it’s hard when you’re right in the moment to embrace it, I guess maybe, enjoy it,” head coach Jim Montgomery told reporters earlier this week.. “I think after the season is over, we’ll be able to sit back. It’s historical, what we’re doing. It’s a pleasure to coach these guys.”

Boston Bruins defenceman Charlie McAvoy is looking to make his return from injury following the Bruins’ 5-2 victory over the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Friday. The 24-year-old player returned to team practice last week and was spotted on the ice taking a lengthy skating session ahead of the Bruins’ convincing win in New York.

McAvoy underwent shoulder surgery during the offseason in order to address a complex shoulder injury that he incurred in Game 6 of the first-round playoff series against the Carolina Hurricanes last season. After undergoing an MRI, it was determined that the defenseman would have to undergo an arthroscopic stabilization on his left shoulder; a procedure that would see him sidelined for six months.

According to Bruins coach Jim Montgomery, McAvoy is gradually getting back into the swing of things with the team. “We’re just hopeful with him,” Montgomery stated, continuing, “No updated timeline. We have an internal process with him. He’s ahead of that Dec. 1 date, but we don’t know exactly. There are boxes to be checked.”

The 24-year-old player is currently considered to be one of the top defensemen in the NHL, scoring 56 points in 70 games last season and racking up a 24:38 average ice time with the Bruins.

Veteran goalie Tuukka Rask will make one more run at the Stanley Cup trophy with the Boston Bruins. Rask re-joined the franchise on Tuesday, signing a deal until the end of the 2021-22 NHL season.

Rask, who spent his entire NHL career in Boston, saw his contract with the Bruins expire in the summer. Both sides expressed interest in the reunion at the time but waited to see how the 34-year-old would recover from his hip surgery. The player also made it clear that he only wants to play for the Bruins and would retire if that option wasn’t on the table.

Rask penned an AHL tryout contract with Providence Bruins in early January following a successful rehabilitation, intending to build up his form before returning to NHL. However, it appears he showed enough while in AHL, as Boston Bruins came in with a contract offer less than a week later.

According to the team’s official announcement, Rask inked a prorated $1 million contract with the Bruins. Under these terms, the deal will earn him $545,000 for the remainder of 2021-22.

Tuukka Rask is considered a Boston Bruins’ legend and arguably the best goalkeeper in franchise history. He holds the records for most appearances by a Bruins’ goalie with 560 and most wins by a goalie in both the regular season and the playoffs. During his time in Boston, Rask helped the Bruins win Stanley Cup in 2011 while picking up several individual accolades, including Vezina Trophy for the best goalkeeper in NHL in 2014 and two All-Star appearances.

The Boston Bruins showed their appreciation for Charlie McAvoy on Friday by handing the talented defenseman the biggest contract in franchise history. McAvoy inked an eight-year extension that will keep him with the Bruins through the 2029-30 NHL season and pay him a $9.5 million annual salary.

McAvoy’s new deal, worth $76 million, kicks in next season. He will play out 2021-22 on the final year of the three-year, $14.7 million contract he inked back in 2019.

McAvoy emerged as the Bruins’ top defenseman in 2020-21 and spent more time on the ice than any other player on the team. He played all but five games last season, contributing with five goals and 25 assists for a total of 30 points. This put him in the conversation for the best defenseman in the league, and he ended up finishing third in the Norris Trophy voting.

“He’s part of the core now, and going forward,” Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said of McAvoy. “For a coach, it’s great. He works hard, trying to get better. He’s growing into a leader, I think this helps him in that department.”

McAvoy, who spent his college career at Boston University, was drafted by the Bruins with the 14th overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut in the 2017-18 season and went on to play 235 regular-season games and 65 playoff games for the franchise.

“There’s no place I’d rather be,” McAvoy said. “I’ve wanted to be in Boston since the moment I’ve been here. It’s been a dream to come to BU and be able to stay here. It’s just been such a dream to get to this point. I can’t be happier than I am right now.”

Boston Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy has won the Jack Adams Award as the NHL coach of the year.

The voting for the award is done by hockey broadcasters. Philadelphia Flyers coach Alain Vigneault received the second most votes while Columbus Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella came in third.

Cassidy led the Bruins to the Stanley Cup Finals last year, where they lost to the St. Louis Blues after taking them to Game 7. The Bruins took the Presidents’ Trophy this year, which is awarded to the team that finished the regular season with the most points.

The Bruins seemed to be set for another good performance in the playoffs this year once the season restarted after it halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, their star goaltender Tuukka Rask opted out of the playoffs because of an undisclosed family issue, leaving them with two fairly inexperienced goalies, Jaroslav Halak and rookie Dan Vladar.

The Bruins’ season ended with a loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the second round.

Boston is Cassidy’s second coaching job. He was fired from the Washington Capitals in the 2003-2004 season after only 25 games. He then went back to coach junior hockey and wait for his next chance in the NHL.

Since Cassidy replaced Claude Julien during the 2016-17 season, the Bruins have made the playoffs every year.

Boston Bruins won’t be able to count on All-Star goalkeeper Tuukka Rask for the rest of their Stanley Cup Playoffs run. Rask decided to opt-out despite playing four games so far, citing his wish to spend more time with his family.

“I want to be with my team competing, but at this moment there are things more important than hockey in my life, and that is being with my family,” Rask explained his decision. “I want to thank the Bruins and my teammates for their support and wish them the best.”

Rask struggled since the NHL resumed its season, going 1-3-0 with 2.57 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage. This was a huge contrast to his regular-season numbers, which included 2.12 GAA and .929 SP.

After the news got out, Bruins’ head coach Bruce Cassidy told reporters that he reached out to Rask but couldn’t confirm whether the 33-year-old is willing to reconsider his decision at later stages of the playoffs.

“As we said before, we support Tuukka, we wish him well, we want nothing but the best for him and his family,” said Cassidy. “Should circumstances change there where he feels he can come back to the club, then I think we’ll cross that bridge when we come and see what it involves.”

Rask was replaced on Boston’s goal by veteran Jaroslav Halak, who oversaw two wins in his two starts in the series against Carolina Hurricanes.

Boston Bruins won’t have to worry about depth at forward position for years to come. The team recently announced that they have signed FW duo Charlie Coyle and Chris Wagner to multi-year contract extensions.

Coyle’s deal now runs through 2025-26 NHL season and comes with a $5.25 million salary on annual basis. With this extension, the 27-year-old is now Bruins player with most years under contract.

Wagner, on the other side, is under contract through 2022-23 after signing a new deal. He will $1.35 million per year.

The deal was confirmed by Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeney and on the team’s social media.

“They’re so ingrained in the community of Boston.” – said Sweeney about the deals. “They understand the pressures of playing with the Bruins and they’re really good teammates. For us, it was a really good fit.”

Charlie Coyle joined Boston Bruins in early 2019, after spending his entire NHL career with Minnesota Wild. Coyle contributed with five goals and nine assists in 25 games this season.

“I love this team. I love this city. And I want to win here.” – said Coyle.

Chris Wagner, who is Boston native, joined Bruins last summer after his contract with New York Islanders expired. Wagner played 76 games in 2018/19, scoring 12 goals and adding seven assists. He scored once and dished four assists this season.

“It’s been the best fit for me. The guys in the room have been awesome. ” – said Wagner. “If you get sick of them you get to hang with your friends and family.”
