The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is set to miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn ligament in his right wrist. While Bengals coach Zac Taylor explained that initial information showed that Burrow may be able to make a full recovery, it is still unclear as to whether he will need surgery.

Burrow was injured during Thursday’s 34-20 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The quarterback fell on his wrist after he was hit by Ravens defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. While able to make a touchdown pass on the next play, Burrow subsequently went down in pain, unable to play the remainder of the game.

“I felt a pop in the middle of the throw,” Burrow explained. “I tried to give it a go but couldn’t get it done.” Unsure of the seriousness of the injury, the Bengals medical team was able to confirm on Friday that Burrow’s setback was a severe one. Still, Burrow explained that he will remain at his teammates’ side as they continue the season.

The Cincinnati Bengals are hopeful that wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase will return from injury in time for Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans. While the player harbors a back injury, the Bengals want to see how he copes during the pregame warmups before coming to a final decision regarding his inclusion.

“We’ll see. I thought he was good,” Bengals coach Zac Taylor said of Chase following Friday’s practice. Chase is still recovering after suffering his back injury due to a hard fall during last week’s 24-18 win over the Buffalo Bills. While he was unable to participate in Wednesday’s practice, Chase had limited participation in Thursday’s practice and was spotted again during Friday’s open practice session.

Cincinnati is looking to win its fifth consecutive game on Sunday. The team is still bottom of a highly competitive AFC North, going level with both the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns on 5-3 each.

The Cincinnati Bengals tight end Hayden Hurst is set to play in Sunday’s AFC Championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs, Bengals coach Zac Taylor confirmed on Friday.

Hurst was a full participant in the Bengals’ practice session on Friday, with Taylor observing, “I thought he had a good practice today.” This came after Hurst was listed as a limited participant in Thursday’s practice after picking up a calf injury the previous day. Taylor confirmed that Hurst’s participation was simply limited as a precautionary measure.

This is Hurst’s second calf injury of the season. He previously tweaked his right calf in Week 13 when the Bengals overcame the Chiefs in the regular season and went on to miss three games as a result.

While Hurst is expected to start in Sunday’s game, the Bengals are going to be without two other starters, namely right guard Alex Cappa, who is harboring an ankle injury, and left tackle Jonah Williams who is struggling with a dislocated kneecap.

The Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Baltimore Ravens 24-17 in their wild-card playoff game, making franchise history in the process. This marks the first time that the Bengals have managed to win a playoff game in back-to-back seasons.

Having reached the Super Bowl last season, the Bengals defeated the Ravens to advance to the divisional playoffs, where the reigning AFC North champions are set to face the Buffalo Bills, who defeated the Miami Dolphins 34-31.

“It’s a whole team, era, whatever you want to call it,” defensive end Sam Hubbard exclaimed following the historic win. “That’s just the mentality we have. We’re not worried about curses or the past or anything like that.”

Dubbed “The Curse of Bo Jackson” due to the then Los Angeles Raiders running back suffering a career-ending injury in a playoff win against the Bengals, the team from Cincinnati had gone 31 years without a playoff victory before finally tasting victory last season.

Last season, the Bengals managed to match its franchise record for most victories in a single season after securing its 12th win against the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game.

The NFL announced late Thursday night that the suspended Week 17 game between the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals will not be resumed.

“This has been a very difficult week,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell commented during a public statement on behalf of the league. “We continue to focus on the recovery of Damar Hamlin and are encouraged by the improvements in his condition as well as the tremendous outpouring of support and care for Damar and his family from across the country. We are also incredibly appreciative of the amazing work of the medical personnel and commend each and every one of them.”

Monday night’s game was suspended with just six minutes left on the clock in the first period when Damar Hamlin collapsed after suffering a cardiac arrest. His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was then transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he has since been receiving care.

For the NFL, the decision to suspend the game made sense seeing as it would have no impact on who qualified for the playoffs. Furthermore, it would prevent the rescheduling of upcoming games.

The NFL announced Tuesday that the suspended game between the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals would not be rescheduled for this week. This comes after the game was called off following the collapse of Bills safety Damar Hamlin, who was later confirmed to have experienced a cardiac arrest.

League commissioner Roger Goodell revealed that he had consulted with both teams as well as the NFL Players Association before coming to a final decision. As a result, the schedule for Week 18 of the regular season will remain unchanged.

“The NFL continues to be in regular contact with the medical team caring for Damar Hamlin, and also the Bills and Bengals organizations and the NFL Players Association,” the league confirmed in the statement.

The Cincinnati Bengals offensive tackle La’el Collins is expected to miss the remainder of the season after incurring a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee during his team’s 22-18 win over the New England Patriots on Saturday.

Collins collapsed during the first quarter of Saturday’s game after Patriots defensive lineman Davon Godchaux rolled up on his leg. Following the game, preliminary tests that were performed on Collins indicated that his left knee had not undergone any structural damage as a result of his clash with Godchaux. The player is still awaiting an MRI to get more information on the extent of the injury.

After signing a three-year, $21 million contract with the Bengals during the 2022 offseason, Collins has started 15 games at right tackle. He was brought in along with three other new starters to reinforce Cincinnati’s lineup after quarterback Joe Burrow was sacked 70 times last season during the regular season and the playoffs combined.

Following his injury, Collins was replaced by Hakeem Adeniji, who started at right guard for the Bengals during Super Bowl LVI. Adeniji is widely expected to be Collins’ replacement for the rest of the season.

The Cincinnati Bengals know that the day when they will have to pay quarterback Joe Burrow is coming soon. And it appears they are prepared to do that without batting an eye.

Speaking at a media gathering on Monday, Bengals’ president Mike Brown told reporters that the entire focus of the franchise is to keep Burrow as their quarterback.

“I can tell you that we couldn’t be happier with Joe Burrow,” Brown said. “He’s everything you would wish for, especially for a quarterback in Cincinnati. Our whole focus is going to be on keeping him here.”

Brown said that he’s aware of the salaries for top signal-callers but still hasn’t given it a thought about the number Burrow might command.

“Really, I haven’t thought about it much right now,” he added.

The good thing for Brown is that he has one more year before an extension for Burrow becomes a pressing issue. The former LSU star is heading into the third year of his rookie deal and will become an extension—eligible in the 2023 NFL offseason.

After a knee injury derailed his rookie season, Joe Burrow showed in 2021 that the Bengals made the right choice when they selected him No.1 overall two years ago. Burrow finished the regular part of the campaign with 4,611 yards, 34 touchdowns, and 14 picks before leading Cincinnati to a Super Bowl appearance. This was the first Super Bowl trip for the Bengals in 33 years.

The Jacksonville Jaguars extended their losing streak to 19 games after getting beat by the Cincinnati Bengals in a Thursday Night Football clash. The Bengals snatched a 24-21 win thanks to  Evan McPherson’s late 35-yard field goal.

The Jags were the better team in the first half, scoring two touchdowns while shutting down the Bengals’ offense. Jacksonville got a chance to make it 21-0 late in the second quarter but ended up failing to convert 4th&Goal on Cincinnati’s 1-yard line.

The Bengals bounced back in the second half and made the score even in their first two possessions. The Jags’ running back James Robinson then scored his second touchdown of the night to give his team the lead once again.

Cincinnati’s offense immediately responded with a touchdown of their own before the defense came through once again and stopped Jacksonville’s drive.

The Bengals got the ball at their own 10-yard line after the Jags’ punted and managed to go 73 yards down the field in order to set up an easy FG attempt for McPherson with four seconds left on the clock. The spotlight wasn’t too bright for the rookie kicker, who was good on the kick and gave his team the third win of the season.

Cincinnati was led by second-year quarterback Joe Burrow, who threw for 348 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Joe Mixon added one rushing touchdown while running for 67 yards.

Rookie QB Trevor Lawrence had a solid game for the Jags, completing 17 out of 24 passes attempted for 204 yards. On top of his two TD runs, Robinson rushed for a total of 78 yards.
