The New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers recently opened up about the way he felt after an Achilles injury ended his 2023 NFL season after just four snaps.

During an appearance at the I Can Fly podcast, Rodgers said that he thought the injury would end his football career.

“I was heartbroken sitting in the locker room on Sept. 11 thinking my career might be over, and that’s how I’m going to go out,” Rodgers said about his thoughts in the aftermath of the injury.

Rodgers joined the Jets during the 2023 offseason in a blockbuster trade from the Green Bay Packers. He was expected to elevate a good team to a championship contender and end the Jets’ 13-season playoff drought, which is the longest active in the league.

“One of the most heartbreaking nights of my life, when I played four plays. Talk about an ego death,” Rodgers added.

However, the Achilles didn’t turn out to be the end of Rodgers’ career, as he recovered faster than expected. He was ready to return to the field before the season ended, but by that time, the Jets were already out of playoff contention.

Now, Rodgers will have a chance to make up for the lost time and finally deliver on the promise in 2024. Jets fans certainly hope this will be the case.

The New York Jets’ star quarterback Aaron Rodgers is abandoning his attempt to miraculously return from an Achilles injury. In his weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee Show,” Rodgers confirmed that he won’t play in the 2023 season.

“If I was 100 percent today, I’d be definitely pushing to play,” said Rodgers. “But the fact is, I’m not.”

Rodgers suffered an Achilles tear in Week 1 and was initially expected to be out for the remainder of the season. However, the 40-year-old publicly expressed his intentions to beat the expectations and return to the field for the Week 16 game against the Washington Commanders. This would be earlier than any other NFL player managed to make a comeback with the same type of injury.

But with the Jets already being out of playoff run, there is no real incentive for Rodgers to play in the Commanders game or any other in 2023.

“There’s always a fear about rerupture if you’re going too fast,” Rodgers added. “But this allows me to — I’m not going to slow my rehab down. I’m going to keep attacking it every single day, but now, without a timetable to come back, obviously, we can be as smart as we need to be.”

Rodgers also shared that he doesn’t believe the 2024 campaign will be his last one in the NFL and said that he intends to play at least a couple more years.

The Jets, currently at 5-9, will likely field journeyman Trevor Siemian under center for the Commanders game. Zach Wilson, who started at the QB position for the better part of the 2023 season, is currently out due to a concussion.

New York Jets coach Robert Saleh has confirmed that quarterback Aaron Rodgers is looking to play again this season following his Achilles injury. This comes after the 40-year-old player spent just three and a half months on the sideline.

“Aaron wants to play; let’s not confuse that one,” Saleh confirmed to reporters. “That’s why he’s been working so hard to get back. His willingness to play, even if he’s not 100%, is at the forefront of his mind. He wants to go, but … until he’s actually cleared, I’m not going to talk about it with anybody.”

With the veteran quarterback’s 21-day practice window coming to a close on Wednesday, the Jets must act fast if they hope to activate him in time to play the remainder of the season. The Jets are next set to face the Washington Commanders on Sunday. Still, with the Jets out of contention for a playoff berth this season, they will need to think carefully about whether it’s a wise decision to reactivate Rodgers and risk reaggravating his injury, particularly given the severity of his Achilles setback.

The New York Jets are expected to medically clear quarterback Aaron Rodgers to play this upcoming week, sources reported late Saturday. The veteran quarterback was cleared to return to practice last week after tearing his Achilles during the Jets’ season opener over three months ago.

While Rodgers himself admitted that he does not expect to be 100% healed until the end of the season, he did express a willingness to play for the Jets if they find themselves in a race for a playoff berth. Still, the fact that the 40-year-old player is almost fit to play after suffering a torn Achilles just three months ago is almost unheard of. In living memory, running back Cam Akers was the quickest player to recover from an injury of this nature, returning to the field for the Los Angeles Rams after just four months on the sidelines.

According to the Jets’ coaches, Rodgers enjoyed two impressive days of practice with the team this past week, with teammates also claiming to be impressed with his performances on the practice field. Should they want him to be active in time to play in Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders, the Jets have until Wednesday to activate Rodgers.

The New York Jets’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers is continuing his unprecedented recovery from the Achilles injury he suffered in the season opener against the Buffalo Bills. Rodgers, only 11 weeks removed from what was supposed to be a season-ending surgery, returned to Jets’ practice on Wednesday.

Rodgers practiced in a limited capacity, but the move opens a 21-day window in which the Jets can activate the 39-year-old player from Injured Reserve and make him eligible to play again this season.

Rodgers previously stated on multiple occasions that he intends to return on the field in 2023 if the Jets are in a position to play for a playoff spot and he feels ready. He also said that he is targeting the December 24 game against the Washington Commanders for his comeback.

In case Rodgers ends up playing against the Commanders, it would be the fastest any NFL player returned from an Achilles injury. While there is a concern that this might be too soon, Jets’ head coach Robert Saleh said he trusts Rodgers’ judgment.

“Aaron is not going to do anything to put himself in harm’s way,” said Saleh during a press conference on Wednesday.

After Rodgers went down, the Jets turned to last season’s starter Zach Wilson as his replacement. While the New York team managed to go 4-3 in their first seven games, Wilson struggled and ended up being benched following a three-game losing streak. Veteran Tim Boyle took over for last week’s game against the Miami Dolphins, but the Jets delivered another underwhelming performance and suffered a 13-34 loss.

With the way the Jets have been playing lately, it is hard to see them remaining alive in the playoff race until Rodgers returns. But they now have added motivation to at least try.

The New York Jets have had enough of their underperforming quarterback Zach Wilson. After another disappointing outing in a 32-6 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, Wilson is officially done as a starter and will be a third-string quarterback moving forward.

Jets’ head coach Robert Saleh said on Monday that the team will move forward with veteran Tim Boyle as their new starting quarterback. Practice squad signal-caller Trevor Siemian will step in as a backup.

The Jets entered the 2023 season with high hopes after acquiring future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers in a trade with the Green Bay Packers. The New York team envisioned Wilson serving as Rodgers’ backup, learning from the veteran, and hopefully be ready to take over down the road.

Unfortunately for the Jets, Rodgers suffered an Achilles injury in the first quarter of a Week 1 clash against the Bills, forcing the franchise to turn to Wilson once again. The former second-overall pick did little to show he was up for the task, frequently struggling to galvanize the offense.

Saleh stuck with Wilson despite his shortcomings, hoping that his performance would improve. However, that didn’t happen even after 11 weeks into the season, causing Saleh to bench the 24-year-old player halfway midway through Sunday’s game against the Bills and then strip him from his starting role altogether.

“We think Zach is incredibly talented, felt like he’d get an opportunity to sit behind Aaron and just learn,” Saleh said about the decision. “Empathetically or sympathetically, when you look at Zach, he’s never really had the opportunity to watch somebody play the position.”

The New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers revealed a vague timeline for his injury recovery on Tuesday, hinting that he could return to the field in six weeks. “It’ll be a few fortnights,” he stated during his weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.

Rodgers underwent surgery on his injured Achilles eight weeks ago. Should he manage to recover in six weeks, he will be able to play during the Jets’ Christmas Week clash with the Washington Commanders on December 24. This would also be the fastest return from an Achilles injury by any NFL player.

Still, the 39-year-old player has acknowledged that such a swift return would be unlikely. “It’d be nice to be able to be back in a couple of weeks. That’s probably not anywhere near a realistic timeline,” Rodgers admitted.

Despite leaving the Green Bay Packers, quarterback Aaron Rodgers still wants his former franchise to continue “owning” the Chicago Bears. This is why Rodgers was happy to see that the Packers, led by new signal-caller Jordan Love, got the Week 1 win over their division rivals.

During a recent appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Rodgers revealed that he congratulated Love for “keeping the ownership” over the Bears.

“I said congratulations on keeping the ownership in place,” Rodgers said. “That was pretty awesome for him.”

Love played a good game versus the Bears, throwing for 245 yards and three touchdowns in a 38-20 win. However, he will need to have many more of those games if he wants to reach the level of Rodgers’ domination against their bitter rivals.

Since becoming the Packers’ full-time starting quarterback in 2008, Rodgers compiled a 24-5 record over the Bears. He took great pride in his ability to beat the Chicago team, even delivering a famous “I still own you” line to the Bears’ fans last season after scoring a touchdown.

Rodgers left Green Bay in the offseason, looking to start a new chapter in his career with the New York Jets. Unfortunately, he tore his Achilles in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills and will likely miss the entire 2023 campaign.

During the Jets opening game of the new season – a 22-16 overtime win over the Buffalo Bills – Rodgers suffered the season-ending injury, bringing a premature end to his debut for the Jets.

Following his surgery, Rodgers is expected to undergo several months of intensive rehab. According to both Jets coach Robert Saleh and owner Woody Johnson, the 39-year-old player is expected to return to action sometime in 2024.

Rodgers is yet to schedule surgery for his injured Achilles tendon, with Saleh explaining that the quarterback is currently undergoing consultations in an effort to determine the best way forward for him.

The New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers confirmed on Thursday that the surgery he underwent to repair a torn Achilles tendon in his left leg went smoothly. “Surgery went great yesterday,” Rodgers announced on a social media post. “Thank you for all the love and prayers and support. And thanks to the [goat emoji] Dr. ElAttrache and his staff for starting me on the road to recovery.”

The New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh confirmed that he does not believe that Aaron Rodgers will retire as a result of his recently picked-up Achilles injury. The oldest player in the NFL at 39 years old, Rodgers’ injury has resurrected talks of his retirement and the longevity of his professional career.

“I’d be shocked if this is the way he’s going to go out,” Saleh stated on Wednesday. Although he has not yet discussed Rodgers’ future with the player, he did reveal that the quarterback is “working through a whole lot of headspace things that he needs to deal with, and that will be the last thing I talk to him about.”

Rodgers is yet to schedule surgery for his injured Achilles tendon, with Saleh explaining that the quarterback is currently undergoing consultations in an effort to determine the best way forward for him.
