Former world number one Andy Murray has returned to singles action after what has been a tumultuous time in his career. The Scottish former Grand Slam champion expressed his doubts over his ability to return to the top of men’s tennis, even stating that it would be “naive” and “silly” for him to think that he could pull off one such feat.

It was just last month that Murray admitted that he was lacking the physical endurance to even last on the court in an ATP Challenger event, and is now looking towards the ATP 250 tournament in Zhuhai, China to begin his rebuilding process.

In addition, Murray has plans to participate in the Beijing Open, which is historically more challenging than the Zhuhai Open and is expected to follow this tournament with the Shanghai Masters, where he is expected to be up against some of the world’s finest.

“I don’t know how far I’m going to be able to get now on my comeback,” Murray explained. “I don’t know how much improving I still have to do or if I’m going to be able to. I’m in no pain just now, so I might as well give it a shot and see how far I can go with the recovery. “
