The Chicago Bears bolstered their pass rush on Friday by adding free-agent defensive end Yannick Ngakoue.

The Bears officially announced the move on their social media but didn’t reveal the details of the agreement. According to multiple reports, Ngakoue inked a one-year deal that will see him earn up to $10.5 million in 2023.

The Bears were in dire need of pass-rush help after being one of the worst teams in terms of getting to the quarterback in 2022. Chicago had 20.0 sacks as a unit in all of the last season, with safety Jaquan Brisker being their leader in sacks with 4.0.

Adding Ngakoue will go a long way in making the Bears’ defense more dangerous for opposing quarterbacks. The 28-year-old had 9.5 sacks last season despite playing for a struggling Indianapolis Colts team and never had less than 8.0 sacks in a single year since entering the league in 2016.

“I just feel like it was a great fit,” Ngakoue said in a chat with Bears’ official website. “Going back to what this culture means here, just the history here, and also, it’s a great transition — easy transition — with my position coach and my defensive coordinator.”

According to the Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer, stat pass rusher Danielle Hunter underwent successful surgery on Wednesday to repair a herniated disc in his neck.

However, Hunter is done for the season, although the team does expect him to be ready to go in time for next year’s training camp. Hunter has been the shining star of the Vikings defense over the past two years, recording 14.5 sacks in back-to-back seasons.

Hunter, a third-round pick in 2015, is still only 25 years old. In five seasons with the Vikings, he has tallied 54.5 sacks. He has become a very important piece on the Vikings defense, which went through an overhaul in the offseason.

The team let a significant group of veteran stars walk during free agency this year, including pass rusher Everson Griffen, defensive tackle Lindval Joseph, and defensive back Xavier Rhodes.

The Vikings did make a trade to get star pass rusher Yannick Ngakoue from the Jacksonville Jaguars but recently traded him away as well to the Baltimore Ravens.

As a result, the once-dominant Vikings defense has looked below average this year both in stopping the running and defending against the passing game of their opponents.

The Baltimore Ravens, who already have one of the best defenses in the league, have made a trade for Minnesota Vikings defense end Yannick Ngakoue.

The Ravens are obviously in win-now mode and decided to give up a third-round pick in the 2021 draft and a conditional fifth-round pick in 2020 for the pass rusher.

The trade was timed perfectly since the Ravens are currently on their bye week. That means that Ngakoue will be able to go through COVID-19 testing this weekend and be ready to play against division rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers, in Week 8.

The Ravens were very interested in adding Ngakoue to the defense earlier in the year, but the Vikings were able to offer a better deal to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

But Baltimore’s front office, which is easily one of the best in the league, never gave up on acquiring the prized pass rusher and made the move before the Week 8 trade deadline to get their guy.

The Ravens defense is giving up only 17.3 points per game this season, which is the fewest by any team in the league. The arrival of Ngakoue should make their defense even stingier in the second half of the season.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have finally found a way to move their disgruntled pass rusher Yannick Ngakoue.

He has been traded to the Minnesota Vikings for a second-round pick and a conditional fifth-round pick that could end up being an even higher-round pick.

For example, if the Vikings end up winning the Super Bowl and Ngakoue ends up making the Pro Bowl, the pick will turn into a third-round one, and if he just makes a Pro Bowl it becomes a fourth-round pick.

Ngakoue previously received the franchise tag from the Jaguars and was set to play this year for $19 million. However, reports indicate that the Vikings were able to negotiate a deal with him that would pay him roughly $12 million this year, with intentions to work on a long-term contract extension in 2021.

Ngakoue has been very vocal about wanting to leave Jacksonville and play elsewhere. The 25-year-old pass rusher has notched 37.5 sacks, 85 quarterback hits, and 14 forced fumbles in his four-year career.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have almost entirely dismantled their 2017 defense that led them to the AFC Championship Game and are clearly in the midst of a full rebuild.

They have been hoarding draft picks and many believe that Jacksonville is intent on drafting Trevor Lawrence, the quarterback from Clemson that some are saying is the best QB prospect since Peyton Manning.

Jacksonville Jaguars don’t seem to be in a hurry to trade Yannick Ngakoue, despite the fact that the start defensive end publicly expressed his desire to leave the franchise.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero recently reported that Jags received multiple trade offers for Ngakoue in recent days and turned them all down.

According to Pelissero, one team was even prepared to include a Pro Bowler in the offer, but Jacksonville believed the player isn’t a good fit for their system and decided to pass.

Yannick Ngakoue was a key man in Jacksonville’s defense in the previous years, racking up 37.5 sacks during his four seasons with the team. However, the Jags weren’t willing to pay the money he was looking for during extension talks in 2019, causing the 25-year-old player to become frustrated with the franchise.

In early March, Ngakoue decided to stop the negotiations and said via social media that he doesn’t want to play for the organization anymore. Jacksonville placed a franchise tag on him regardless, keeping him under contract for at least one more year.

Ngakoue didn’t change his mind since then, and Jaguars recently started taking trade calls for the Pro Bowler. Still, they are reportedly asking a premium compensation, which is something other teams have not been willing to offer just yet.

Jacksonville Jaguars’ defensive end Yannick Ngakoue has been vocal in his intentions to leave the organization in the past, and it seems like things haven’t changed. Ngakoue recently made an appearance on ESPN NFL Live, where he reiterated his wish to get out of Jacksonville.

According to Ngakoue, the Jags had a chance to keep him last offseason, but failed to give him an offer he wanted.

“Things come to an end, and it’s time for me to move on to the next chapter of my career. And I’m forever thankful for what Jacksonville has brought to me and my family, but it’s time to move on,” said Ngakoue.

It seems like Ngakoue has several other issues with Jags’ organization besides the fact that they didn’t want to open their checkbook.

“I’m not really sure what team I will be landing at, but what type of team that I would love to join is a team that has a great culture,” he said after being asked about the team he would like to play next. “I really want to be part of a team that has a great culture, and winning is a habit. I don’t want to be part of a team that losing is a norm or anything of that nature. I want to be part of something special.”

Despite Yannick Ngakoue’s desire to leave Jacksonville, it seems like Jaguars won’t let the 25-year-old without a fight. The team already placed a franchise tag on Ngakoue, stopping him from becoming a free agent, while showing little to no interest in trading him.

Ngakoue played 15 games in 2019 and finished the season with 41 tackles, 8.0 sacks, six pass deflections, one interception, and one defensive touchdown.

Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to tag their defensive end Yannick Ngakoue according to the sources around the league. And while the team expected to use this tool in order to have more time to negotiate a long-term deal with the 24-year-old, it seems like Ngakoue isn’t interested in this scenario.

After the news broke out, Ngakoue went on Twitter to reveal that he doesn’t wish to stay in Jacksonville any longer.

“The Jaguars are aware I no longer have interest in signing a long term contract in Jacksonville,” Ngakoue wrote. “Duval, I love you and gave you guys everything I got.  I’m thankful for the journey and look forward to continuing my career elsewhere.”

Ngakoue, who played out his rookie deal, wanted to get a new deal in the summer of 2019. Jags were also keen to get the job done, but the two sides couldn’t come to an agreement on salary. The highest Jacksonville was prepared to go was $19 million a year, while the player was pushing towards $22 million.

After the negotiations broke down, Ngakoue decided to skip the OTAs and the beginning of the training camp before joining the team. He finished 2019 with 41 tackles, 8.0 sacks, one interception, and one defensive touchdown.

In case the Jags don’t manage to convince Yannick Ngakoue to stay, the team will most likely start shopping him to other NFL teams in order to get some assets back. So far it is unclear what kind of return Jacksonville could get for Ngakoue, but considering his production in recent years, any negotiations would have to start around second-round pick mark.

Jacksonville Jaguars held their ground in not wanting to give defensive end Yannick Ngakoue a new deal, and it seems like they have won (at least for now). Ngakoue decided to end his holdout on Sunday and join the Jags’ training camp without a new deal.

Ngakoue decided to skip Jacksonville’s mandatory minicamp in June and sit out the start of the training camp in order to leverage a contract extension from the Jags. The two sides, however, didn’t manage to come to an agreement although Jaguars offered the player a short term deal worth $19 million annually.

The 24-year-old is entering the final year of his rookie deal, which will pay him around $2 million in 2019.

“At the end of the day, they had a chance to sign me for a long-term deal but it didn’t get done so it is what it is,” – Ngakoue told reporters Sunday via NFL Network. “I’m just here like I said. I love football. I love my teammates and I’m here to play games.”

Since entering the league as a third-round pick in 2017, Yannick Ngakoue recorded 80 tackles, 29.5 sacks, 10 forced fumbles, and one interception. He also has a Pro Bowl appearance to his name.
