Jacksonville Jaguars don’t seem to be in a hurry to trade Yannick Ngakoue, despite the fact that the start defensive end publicly expressed his desire to leave the franchise.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero recently reported that Jags received multiple trade offers for Ngakoue in recent days and turned them all down.

According to Pelissero, one team was even prepared to include a Pro Bowler in the offer, but Jacksonville believed the player isn’t a good fit for their system and decided to pass.

Yannick Ngakoue was a key man in Jacksonville’s defense in the previous years, racking up 37.5 sacks during his four seasons with the team. However, the Jags weren’t willing to pay the money he was looking for during extension talks in 2019, causing the 25-year-old player to become frustrated with the franchise.

In early March, Ngakoue decided to stop the negotiations and said via social media that he doesn’t want to play for the organization anymore. Jacksonville placed a franchise tag on him regardless, keeping him under contract for at least one more year.

Ngakoue didn’t change his mind since then, and Jaguars recently started taking trade calls for the Pro Bowler. Still, they are reportedly asking a premium compensation, which is something other teams have not been willing to offer just yet.

Jacksonville Jaguars’ defensive end Yannick Ngakoue has been vocal in his intentions to leave the organization in the past, and it seems like things haven’t changed. Ngakoue recently made an appearance on ESPN NFL Live, where he reiterated his wish to get out of Jacksonville.

According to Ngakoue, the Jags had a chance to keep him last offseason, but failed to give him an offer he wanted.

“Things come to an end, and it’s time for me to move on to the next chapter of my career. And I’m forever thankful for what Jacksonville has brought to me and my family, but it’s time to move on,” said Ngakoue.

It seems like Ngakoue has several other issues with Jags’ organization besides the fact that they didn’t want to open their checkbook.

“I’m not really sure what team I will be landing at, but what type of team that I would love to join is a team that has a great culture,” he said after being asked about the team he would like to play next. “I really want to be part of a team that has a great culture, and winning is a habit. I don’t want to be part of a team that losing is a norm or anything of that nature. I want to be part of something special.”

Despite Yannick Ngakoue’s desire to leave Jacksonville, it seems like Jaguars won’t let the 25-year-old without a fight. The team already placed a franchise tag on Ngakoue, stopping him from becoming a free agent, while showing little to no interest in trading him.

Ngakoue played 15 games in 2019 and finished the season with 41 tackles, 8.0 sacks, six pass deflections, one interception, and one defensive touchdown.

Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to tag their defensive end Yannick Ngakoue according to the sources around the league. And while the team expected to use this tool in order to have more time to negotiate a long-term deal with the 24-year-old, it seems like Ngakoue isn’t interested in this scenario.

After the news broke out, Ngakoue went on Twitter to reveal that he doesn’t wish to stay in Jacksonville any longer.

“The Jaguars are aware I no longer have interest in signing a long term contract in Jacksonville,” Ngakoue wrote. “Duval, I love you and gave you guys everything I got.  I’m thankful for the journey and look forward to continuing my career elsewhere.”

Ngakoue, who played out his rookie deal, wanted to get a new deal in the summer of 2019. Jags were also keen to get the job done, but the two sides couldn’t come to an agreement on salary. The highest Jacksonville was prepared to go was $19 million a year, while the player was pushing towards $22 million.

After the negotiations broke down, Ngakoue decided to skip the OTAs and the beginning of the training camp before joining the team. He finished 2019 with 41 tackles, 8.0 sacks, one interception, and one defensive touchdown.

In case the Jags don’t manage to convince Yannick Ngakoue to stay, the team will most likely start shopping him to other NFL teams in order to get some assets back. So far it is unclear what kind of return Jacksonville could get for Ngakoue, but considering his production in recent years, any negotiations would have to start around second-round pick mark.

Jacksonville Jaguars held their ground in not wanting to give defensive end Yannick Ngakoue a new deal, and it seems like they have won (at least for now). Ngakoue decided to end his holdout on Sunday and join the Jags’ training camp without a new deal.

Ngakoue decided to skip Jacksonville’s mandatory minicamp in June and sit out the start of the training camp in order to leverage a contract extension from the Jags. The two sides, however, didn’t manage to come to an agreement although Jaguars offered the player a short term deal worth $19 million annually.

The 24-year-old is entering the final year of his rookie deal, which will pay him around $2 million in 2019.

“At the end of the day, they had a chance to sign me for a long-term deal but it didn’t get done so it is what it is,” – Ngakoue told reporters Sunday via NFL Network. “I’m just here like I said. I love football. I love my teammates and I’m here to play games.”

Since entering the league as a third-round pick in 2017, Yannick Ngakoue recorded 80 tackles, 29.5 sacks, 10 forced fumbles, and one interception. He also has a Pro Bowl appearance to his name.
