Vancouver Whitecaps are poised to lose an important piece of their midfield ahead of the MLS 2020 season resume. According to Transfermarkt’s Manuel Veth, Whitecaps’ starting midfielder Inbeom Hwang is on his way to Russia where he will play for Rubin Kazan.

Reportedly, both Whitecaps and Hwang were interested in parting ways this summer. The South Korea international was about to turn 24-years-old, which would move him past Young Designated Player threshold and increase his salary cap hit to $612,500 in 2021.

Hwang, on the other hand, always wanted to play in Europe and moving to Kazan is an opportunity to do so. He was previously linked with Dinamo Zagreb, but the talks between the Croatian side and Vancouver were not fruitful.

Rubin is expected to pay $2 million to Whitecaps as part of the transfer.

Inbeom Hwang started his career in his native country with Daejeon Citizen, playing 88 games and scoring 15 goals for the club. He moved to Vancouver Whitecaps FC in early 2019 on a two-year deal, while the MLS side also had club options on 2021 and 2022.

Hwang played a total of 39 MLS games, making 36 starts. He scored three goals and has six assists.

Vancouver Whitecaps are bringing forward Lucas Cavallini home. According to ESPN, Whitecaps agreed to a deal with Cavallini’s current club Puebla to acquire the Canadian international forward for a $6 million fee.

The reports said that Cavallini will sign a four-year contract with Vancouver with the official confirmation expected in the next couple of days. The 26-year-old also sparked interest from Liga MX side Atlas, but Puebla wasn’t willing to send him to a league rival.

Cavallini played 17 games with Puebla in Liga MX this season, managing to score five goals and add two assists. He represents a great coup for Whitecaps, who are in a rebuild after a disappointing 2019 MSL season in which they finished at the bottom of Western Conference.

Lucas Cavallini spent the early part of his career in Uruguay, where he played for Nacional, Fenix, and Penarol. In 2017 he joined Puebla on a loan stint, with the Mexican club deciding to make the move permanent in 2018. During his time in Mexico, Cavallini played 81 games and scored 30 goals.

Since 2012, Cavallini has also been a part of Canada’s national team. He played 17 games and scored 11 goals.

Fredy Montero is back in MLS, and he will be wearing Vancouver Whitecaps jersey once again. The 31-year-old Colombian was recently released by Sporting CP and has now decided to sign with Whitecaps, where he played on loan in 2017.

“We’re happy to have Fredy back in Vancouver. He’s returning to a city and a club he knows very well, and to a league where he’s had incredible success,” – said Whitecaps head coach Marc Dos Santos. “He gives us a proven goalscorer and an important presence in our locker room.”

Vancouver Whitecaps acquired Fredy Montero on loan in 2017 from Tianjin TEDA, and it turned out to be a great move for both sides. Whitecaps got a great striker on a cheap for an entire season, while Montero managed to find consistency after a period of struggle and scored 14 times in 36 games in MLS. He will now be looking to do the same, considering the fact that he had underwhelming past two years in Portugal.

“Vancouver is a special place for my family and me,” – said Montero. “I’m blessed and excited to be back. The city and fans welcomed us in 2017, and I’m ready to score goals and give my all to the club once again. I just want to say thank you to the coaching staff for giving me this opportunity.”

This will be the third stint in MLS Fredy Montero, who previously played for Seattle Sounders FC between 2009 and 2014. During his time in Seattle, Montero played in 119 regular-season games and scored impressive 47 goals alongside 34 assists.

Vancouver Whitecaps have started preparing for the 2019 MLS season early on. The team announced on Monday that they have signed Australian midfielder Andy Rose to a two-year deal. Whitecaps had to acquire Rose’s MLS rights from Seattle Sounders to complete the deal, parting ways with $50,000 of General Allocation Money.

The deal was also confirmed by Whitecaps coach Marc Dos Santos.

Thinking about the culture, the team, and the spirit we want to create, Andy is a great team guy who is going to show up every day,” – said Dos Santos in a statement. “He has experience in the league and abroad and he can play any of the midfield positions. You need players like Andy on your roster.

After playing college soccer with the UCLA Bruins, Andy Rose spent some time in USL Premier Development League before being drafted sixth overall in 2012 MLS Supplement draft by the Real Salt Lake. He was traded to the Seattle Sounders shortly after.

Rose played a total of 91 games in MLS for Sounders, scoring five goals, before moving to Europe where he signed with English club Coventry City in 2016. After less than two years with Coventry, he joined Scottish Premiership side Motherwell.

Sierra Leonean striker Kei Kamara is currently in his first MLS season with Vancouver Whitecaps, but the 34-year-old hopes that it won’t be his last. Kamara, who played for five different MLS teams before joining Whitecaps in 2018, recently told MLSsoccer.com that he would like to stay in Vancouver even after his contract expires at the end of this season.

I’m at the end of my contract here in Vancouver, but it’s one of the best teams I’ve played for, one of the best cities I’ve lived in,” – said Kamara. “It’s difficult right now that we don’t have a permanent coach to know what the situation is for me going forward. For me, I feel like I’ve done my due here. I’m not looking to that. Obviously, whatever happens will happen, I love it here.

Still, Kamara states that his primary focus isn’t the new contract but helping the team to reach the playoffs. Whitecaps are currently on the eighth place in the Western Conference, but a win against Sporting Kansas City on Wednesday would see them being tied with Real Salt Lake for the last playoff spot.

I believe we can do it,” – the 34-year-old explained. “The game against Kansas City is obviously our final. It doesn’t matter what happens to the other side of the table. … If we can handle that game, it doesn’t matter what the other results are, then we’ll be really happy going into our last two games of the season.”

Kei Kamara started his professional career with Columbus Crew and went on to play for several other teams including Sporting Kansas City, Middlesbrough, and New England Revolution, before joining Vancouver Whitecaps in December 2017.

Kamara played in 26 games for Whitecaps this season, scoring 14 goals.

Vancouver Whitecaps are hoping that shock therapy can improve their chances to reach this year’s playoffs. The team announced on Tuesday that they had sacked manager Carl Robinson, who will leave the team alongside two assistants, assistant manager Martyn Pert and goalkeeper coach Stewart Kerr.

Whitecaps named Craig Dalrymple, technical director of their youth academy, as the team’s interim manager while the search for the long-term solution begins immediately according to Whitecaps president Bob Lenarduzz.

We have a lot of respect and appreciation for Carl and his team and are thankful for the contributions they have made to this club. A lot of thought and consideration has gone into this decision, which was made with the best interests of the club moving forward,” – said Lenarduzz in a statement. “With five games left, we remain focused on our opportunity to make the playoffs. As we look to 2019 and beyond, we are committed to being a championship contender and a global search for a coach to lead this vision will start today.

The firing of Robinson comes after Vancouver Whitecaps suffered two straight defeats, which put them further from the opportunity to play in the playoffs. They are currently eighth in the Western Conference, being four points behind Seattle Sounders who hold the last playoff spot.

Whitecaps have five more games to try and reach their goal, with the first game coming against their direct playoff rival LA Galaxy.

New York Red Bulls just added one of the most rated defenders in the MLS to their roster. The team announced that they have acquired center-back Tim Parker from the Vancouver Whitecaps. The Whitecaps received midfielder Felipe Martins, $500,000 in targeted allocation money and an international roster spot in exchange. Also, they will get a portion of the transfer fee if Parker makes a move outside the MLS.

Tim is the type of defender we look for,” – said Red Bulls coach Jesse Marsch in a statement. “His soccer knowledge, athleticism, and one-on-one defending ability are qualities that fit with what we ask of our center backs. I know he is glad to be coming home to New York, and we think he will thrive in our style of play.

Tim Parker requested a trade from the Whitecaps after failing to agree on a contract extension with the team over the winter. It will be now on the New York Bulls to get him $600,000 in guaranteed compensation, a figure the 25-year-old reportedly asked for. Tim Parker was one of the standout players for Whitecaps in the 2017 season, being ranked second in the league in headed clearances and fifth in aerials won. His good games also brought him a USMNT call-up for a friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

On the other hand, Vancouver Whitecaps received a good and reliable midfielder in Felipe Martins. Martins played in 100 regular season games for Red Bull in the past three years, managing to score 10 goals and hand out 17 assists.

Felipe has consistently proven to be one of the best box-to-box midfielders in Major League Soccer,” –said the Whitecaps coach Carl Robinson. “He’s fiercely competitive, very comfortable on the ball, and creative going forward. We firmly believe he’s someone that will make the players around him better and we’re delighted to add him to our group in the prime of his career.
