Fredy Montero is back in MLS, and he will be wearing Vancouver Whitecaps jersey once again. The 31-year-old Colombian was recently released by Sporting CP and has now decided to sign with Whitecaps, where he played on loan in 2017.

“We’re happy to have Fredy back in Vancouver. He’s returning to a city and a club he knows very well, and to a league where he’s had incredible success,” – said Whitecaps head coach Marc Dos Santos. “He gives us a proven goalscorer and an important presence in our locker room.”

Vancouver Whitecaps acquired Fredy Montero on loan in 2017 from Tianjin TEDA, and it turned out to be a great move for both sides. Whitecaps got a great striker on a cheap for an entire season, while Montero managed to find consistency after a period of struggle and scored 14 times in 36 games in MLS. He will now be looking to do the same, considering the fact that he had underwhelming past two years in Portugal.

“Vancouver is a special place for my family and me,” – said Montero. “I’m blessed and excited to be back. The city and fans welcomed us in 2017, and I’m ready to score goals and give my all to the club once again. I just want to say thank you to the coaching staff for giving me this opportunity.”

This will be the third stint in MLS Fredy Montero, who previously played for Seattle Sounders FC between 2009 and 2014. During his time in Seattle, Montero played in 119 regular-season games and scored impressive 47 goals alongside 34 assists.
