United States international and West Bromwich Albion striker Daryl Dike will not be available for the USMNT’s upcoming game against Mexico on Wednesday. Dike will be ruled out of action for up to nine months after suffering an Achilles injury, West Brom announced on Tuesday.

Dike was stretchered off from West Brom’s 2-1 victory over Stoke City in the EFL Championship on Saturday, requiring an oxygen mask as he was escorted from the field of play.

“Albion striker Daryl Dike will be sidelined for six to nine months after suffering an Achilles tendon injury at Stoke City on Saturday,” the club’s statement read. “A scan has since confirmed surgery is required to repair a full rupture of the USA international’s right Achilles, after which he will begin his rehabilitation. Albion’s medical and sports science teams will provide Dike with all the support he requires to return to full fitness later this year.”

The United States men’s national team learned its opponents for the 2021 Gold Cup. The draw for the tournament, which took place in Miami on Monday, placed United States in Group B and pitted the USMNT against Canada and Martinique.

One more team will join U.S., Canada, and Martinique following a mini-qualifying tournament. On one side of the bracket, Haiti faces the play. St. Vincent and the Grenadines, while Bermuda and Barbados are set to square off on the other side. The winners of the respective sides of the bracket will play in a single-elimination game for the final spot in Group B.

“I think it’s a strong group,” said USMNT manager Gregg Berhalter. “Canada has a great generation of players coming through. I think it’s going to be a great, competitive match. The other opponents, we’ll see who gets in the fourth spot, but it’s definitely a good group.”

Reigning Gold Cup champion Mexico was placed in Group A, where they will play El Salvador, Curacao, and team to be determined later. Costa Rica, Jamaica, and Suriname were placed in Group B, while Honduras, Panama, Grenada, and Qatar play in Group B.

The 19-year-old recently talked with The 42 and said that he is really happy with PSG and intends to stay in Paris and fight for playing time despite facing some tough competition.

“It is an incredible club, an incredible bunch of players, incredible coaching staff,” – said Weah. “I am learning so much from playing with them each day at such a young age and I am maturing in a way that I really wanted to. I am seeing my game really develop for the better. I am really happy to be at PSG — I want to stay there and learn and hopefully get some playing time.“

Timothy Weah is establishing himself as one of the most crucial pieces in the core of promising youngsters that will be the future of United States men’s national soccer team. Weah recently earned his first USMNT start during a friendly 3-0 win against Bolivia and scored his first international goal, while also playing a full game in the 2-1 defeat against Ireland.

Still, despite a good start of his international career, there is no doubt that the youngster will have to find some regular playing time. Weah is aware of this and would be considering to go on a loan, but not before trying to soak up all the knowledge he can in Paris.

“I feel like the loan is a little too early. I still want to be with them, get some more minutes and maybe at the end of next season or in the middle of next season, I will go out on loan. Who knows? It is up to the coach,” said Weah.

Timothy Weah, who is the son of former FIFA World Player of the Year recipient and current President of Liberia George Weah, spent a good portion of his youth career in the United States before joining Paris Saint-Germain Academy in 2014. Fortuna Dusseldorf was recently promoted to the German’s Bundesliga and is already working to stay there. The team has announced on Tuesday that they have signed United States international midfielder Alfredo Morales to a three-year contract. Morales previously spent five seasons playing for FC Ingolstadt 04.

“We’ll get an experienced Bundesliga player in Alfredo Morales,” – said Dusseldorf coach Friedhelm Funkel. “He’s played in more than 150 matches in the two upper tiers. He’s shown there he has Bundesliga quality. With his mentality, he can help us from day one.“

Alfredo Morales started his professional career with Hertha BSC’s second team in 2008, before being promoted to the first team in 2010. He played in 20 Bundesliga games for Hertha before deciding to join Ingolstadt in 2013. Morales played in 25 games for Ingolstadt in 2017-18 season scoring on four occasions.
