Anthony Joshua is no longer the WBA, IBF, and WBO heavyweight boxing champion. Joshua lost his titles after being stunned by Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk via unanimous decision in a spectacular fight over the weekend.

Usyk, fighting in his only third heavyweight fight, proved to be a tougher challenge for Joshua than expected. Making the best of his refined footwork, Usyk managed to evade Joshua’s power punches while landing his hits whenever he got an opportunity.

Joshua composed himself by the fourth round and started landing some punches making it seem like he was in control again. However, Usyk kept his composure and continued searching for openings. One such opening came late in the seventh round when he managed to land a hard hit that caused Joshua to stumble and almost go down on canvas.

The two boxers kept on trading rounds until the 11th round, when Usyk got ahead with several well-placed hits. The 34-year-old fighter continued to be aggressive in the 12th and forced Joshua into defense, which all but sealed the win for him.

The three judges scored the fight 117-112, 116-112, and 115-113 in favor of Usyk, who remained undefeated as a professional with a 19-0 record. Joshua, on the other hand, slipped to 24-2.

Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk could cross gloves again in early 2022. Joshua had a rematch clause in his fight contract and already confirmed he would take it.

“When I was walking back through the tunnel, I just said to myself, ‘I’m ready to get back to the gym, I’m ready to just put that work in,” Joshua told reporters after the fight.

A fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua is one of the most anticipated boxing fights in recent memory. And it appears we are inching closer to actually seeing it play out.

Fury’s promoter Bob Arum recently made an appearance on iFL TV and said that Fury and Joshua agreed to all major points of the bout and are close to meeting in the ring.

“I can say clearly, based on my view on everything, that there are no more issues,” said Arum. He then added that there are still several details that need to be sorted out, including the contracts and the venue.

The reports about Fury vs. Joshua first surfaced last year, when Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn said that the boxers agreed to a two-fight deal and will fight in 2021. Fury also confirmed the news shortly after, but there were no further updates about the bout since then.

Arum’s recent comments are encouraging for everyone who wants to see this fight, but it should be cautious optimism. In the world of boxing, nothing is certain until contracts get signed and the venue gets booked.

Tyson Fury currently holds the WBC heavyweight champion belt, which he won in February 2020 by defeating Deontay Wilder. He hasn’t had a fight since.

Anthony Joshua, on the other hand, is the IBF, WBA, and WBO champion. His most recent fight was against Kubrat Pulev, whom he knocked out in the 9th round in December.

It looks like heavyweight champions Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are finally meeting in the ring. According to English promoter Eddie Hearn, Fury and Joshua have an “agreement” to fight in 2021.

Hearn, who promotes Joshua, told ESPN on Wednesday that the two fighters worked out basics of the deal for two fights that should take place next year.

“We have agreed to the basics of the deal, a two-fight deal,” said Hearn. “The hardest part is to agree to the financial element of the deal. We have agreed with Tyson Fury and the team, and we can now move forward with finalizing the smaller parts of the deal. The good news for fight fans is that we have agreed to do the two fights, and we can now go and dot the I’s and cross the T’s.”

However, Hearn added that details like exact date and venue are unknown at the moment and both Joshua and Fury will have to come out victorious in their next fights in order to meet each other,

“They also have fights in between to make and get through, and that’s another issue,” he explained.

Fury also confirmed the deal via a video posted on social media.

After losing the WBO, WBA, and IBF heavyweight champion belts to Andy Ruiz in June 2019, Anthony Joshua managed to get them back in a rematch that took place six months later. For his next fight, Joshua was supposed to face Kubrat Pulev on June 20th, but the bout was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Tyson Fury, on the other hand, holds the WBC heavyweight champion belt as he defeated Deontay Wilder in early 2020. Fury will now face Dillian Whyte as part of mandatory title defense chores, while the third fight against Wilder is also on the cards.
