The Phoenix Suns associate head coach Kevin Young is set to sign a new two-year deal with the franchise, sources close to the matter reported. The $2 million per year deal is set to make Young the NBA’s highest-paid assistant coach.

This move comes after Suns head coach Monty Williams departed the team for the Detroit Pistons. Eager to keep him on under new coach Frank Vogel, the Suns decided to implore Young to stay by offering him a new contract with improved terms.

Known as one of the top assistant coaches in the league, Young was one of the three finalists who the Suns considered for the head coaching role that was vacated by Williams. He has amassed much support from the organization during his time there, particularly due to his work with stars such as Devin Booker.

After eight years of coaching in the G League, including roles at the Delaware 87ers, Iowa Energy, and Utah Flash, Young became a mainstay in the NBA’s assistant coaching scene. He has been considered for a variety of head coaching roles, including by the Milwaukee Bucks, Toronto Raptors, and Houston Rockets.

The Phoenix Suns overcame a 13-point deficit in the second quarter to earn a crucial 109-123 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday night. The Suns vs. Clippers series is now tied at 1-1 and is headed to Los Angeles.

After surprisingly dropping Game 1 at home, the Suns entered Game 2 with a sense of urgency. It was close to a must-win game as it gets since they knew that falling into a 0-2 hole would greatly diminish their chances of advancing to the second round. But despite this, things got bad for Phoenix early on.

The Clippers, energized by the win in Game 1, were a much better team throughout the better part of the first half. Kawhi Leonard and Russell Westbrook were cooking early on, fuelling the LA team to a double-digit lead in the second quarter.

When falling behind two games became a real threat for the star-studded Suns’ team, All-Star guard Devin Booker decided to take things into his own hands. Booker made a buzzer-beater at the end of the first half to tie the score at 59-59 before leading Phoenix’s charge with 18 points in the third period.

Overall, Booker had 38 points and nine assists for the night, being the biggest reason why the Suns turned things around and got a win. He received help from co-star Kevin Durant, who had 25 points, six rebounds, and five assists.

“He’s an all-around player,” Durant said about Booker. “He can do everything at an elite level on a basketball court.”

The Suns will now head to LA for the next two games in the series. Game 3 will be played on Thursday night at Crypto Arena.

The Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker looks likely to return to the court when his team takes on the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday, multiple sources claimed.

Booker has been struggling with a left groin strain, thereby bringing his fitness into question. Since the start of the season, Booker has missed a total of 24 games as a result of his ongoing groin strain as well as hamstring pain.

Averaging 27.1 points when he has been able to play this season, Booker has proven to be a key member of the Suns’ lineup. Following their 132-100 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night, the Suns are now 8-11 without Booker as part of their lineup. Overall, the Suns are 27-26, placing eighth in the Western Conference standings and now just a half-game out of fifth place.

The Suns are beginning a five-game road trip on Friday when they face the Boston Celtics at the TD Garden. This is followed by the Pistons on Saturday, the Nets on Tuesday, and the Hawks again on Thursday, before wrapping up against the Indiana Pacers next Friday night.

The Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker exited his team’s 128-125 overtime loss against the Denver Nuggets on Sunday night after picking up a groin injury. The player left after 4:20 in the first quarter after scoring two points.

Following Booker’s departure from the game, replacement guard Deandre Ayton went on to score 22 points and 16 rebounds while teammate Chris Paul posted 17 points and 16 assists. Despite Ayton and Paul’s standout performances, the Suns couldn’t shut out the Nuggets’ star Nikola Jokic, who scored a triple-double to earn his team the narrow overtime win. Jokic proved to be Sunday night’s most impactful player with 41 points, 15 rebounds, and 15 assists.

Prior to Sunday evening’s game, Booker had been averaging 28 points. He scored his season-best tally of 58 points against the New Orleans Pelicans in the Suns’ previous game on December 17.

Currently standing at 1,045 3-pointers over the course of his career, Booker needs just seven more to surpass Steve Nash for the all-time franchise record.

No updates have yet been posted regarding the player’s injury status and recovery timeline.

Kelly Oubre Jr., the Phoenix Suns’ surprising mid-season acquisition, has decided to stick with his current team instead of testing the waters as a restricted free agent.

Oubre has settled on a two-year, $30 million deal with the Suns which will keep him in the valley until 2021.

Phoenix acquired the 23-year-old small forward in a trade with the Washington Wizards in December, in which the Suns sent Trevor Ariza to the Eastern Conference.

Oubre struggled to make an impact in his first two seasons in the nation’s capital, averaging just 15 minutes per game and making a minimal impact off of the bench. During the 2017-18 season, however, he started to contribute more and ended the season averaging 11.8 points per game.

The 2018-19 season, nonetheless, was Oubre’s breakout campaign. The talented shooter averaged 15.2 points and 4.7 rebounds per game on 44.5% shooting, the best marks of his career. In addition, he got even better after being shipped to Phoenix, as he averaged 18.9 points per game and worked his way into the team’s starting five.

Oubre underwent thumb surgery in March, which put him out for the season’s final month, but he is expected to be ready to contribute as a member of a young and talented Suns roster next season.
