Kicker Jason Myers has signed a four-year contract extension with the Seattle Seahawks, the team announced on Wednesday. With his previous contract set to expire in March, his new deal includes incentives that will raise the contract’s value to $22.6 million, making him the NFL’s second-highest-paid kicker.

At 31 years of age, Myers returned to top form in 2022, making 34 of his 37 field goal attempts to earn his second Pro Bowl nod in five seasons as the NFC’s kicker of choice. He has been a vital member of the Seahawks roster this season, kicking a 32-yard game-winner in overtime against the Rams in Week 18 to keep Seattle in the running for a playoff spot.

“Look at the kick at the end of the half. What a great play that was for a kicker,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said of his prized kicker. “He had a terrific year. He wants to be here. We want him to be here, so we have to figure it out somehow.”

The Seattle Seahawks’ starting left guard Damien Lewis left the field on an injury cart during the team’s 27-11 preseason loss to the Chicago Bears after hurting his left ankle. He was sent to get X-rays shortly after.

Head coach Pete Carroll revealed that Lewis’ X-ray results came back negative, explaining that the team is very lucky in this regard. He added that Lewis is in high spirits and “maybe surprised by the results, but we’re thrilled by it as well.” Currently, it remains unknown whether or not Lewis will be available for selection when the Seahawks meet the Denver Broncos for their NFL season opener on Monday, September 12.

Lewis was injured during the second quarter of the game against the Bears when defensive lineman Angelo Blackson unintentionally collided with him from behind while taking down DeeJay Dallas. Noticing the urgency of the situation, Seattle’s medical team placed Lewis in an air cast before transporting him off the field on an injury cart.

For the remainder of the game, Lewis was replaced by Haynes, with Carroll expressing much confidence in the player’s abilities in Lewis’ absence. The loss against the Saints will especially sting Seattle, considering they were in good shape to come on top but wasted their chance due to some avoidable mistakes. This included QB Geno Smith holding onto the ball for too long and taking several unnecessary sacks.

But what arguably cost Seattle the most were missed field goals. Kicker Jason Myers first missed a 44-yarder early in the third quarter and then followed that up with a miss from 53 yards that would give the Seahawks the lead midway through the final period.

The Saints took advantage of it by making a field goal of their own under two minutes and then stopping Seattle’s offense on the following drive.

Speaking with reporters after the game, the Seahawks’ linebacker Bobby Wagner admitted that his team needs to clean up their mistakes if they want to turn things around.

“We’re executing. We’re making plays. We’re just having costly mistakes or costly penalties in the wrong moment,” Wagner said.

This was the first time that the Seattle Seahawks lost three consecutive games since 2011. They have dropped to 2-5 and find themselves in real danger of missing the playoffs.

In a recent chat with CBS Sports Radio, Wright said that he wants to continue playing for the Seahawks but doesn’t intend to “take a discount” in order to make that happen. The 31-year-old veteran, who spent his entire pro career with the Seahawks, is set to hit free agency in March.

“I do way too much on the football field to take a discount,” said Wright to host Jim Rome. “It makes absolutely no sense. If you want to win all these championships and look good on Sundays, you’ve got to compensate your guys that are making plays.”

Keeping Wright on the market value might be challenging for the Seahawks, as they are currently barely under the salary cap while having several other pressing needs to take care of. The player is well aware of this but believes his stay can happen if the organization puts some effort into it.

“They’ve got to clear some space to make things happen, so they’ve got to get busy,” he added.

KJ Wright has been a mainstay in the Seattle Seahawks defense since being drafted in the fourth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He made 140 starts for the franchise in the previous 10 seasons while helping the Seahawks win Super Bowl XLVIII.

Baldwin announced his retirement via Twitter in the form of a letter written to his younger self. He reflected on his career, his personal growth, and the lessons he learned during his time with Seattle. He ended the “letter” with this tweet, signaling that he will be hanging up his cleats.

Baldwin began his NFL after being passed over in seven rounds of the NFL Draft. He signed with the Seahawks as an unheralded undrafted free agent. From there, however, he developed into one of his team’s most important players.

The Stanford alum started his career well, leading the team in receiving yards and touchdowns as a rookie. From there, he went onto have a highly productive career.

Baldwin recorded two 1,000 yard seasons in his eight years with the team and caught 50 or more passes in all but one season with the team.

His career totals include 6,563 receiving yards and 49 receiving touchdowns, an excellent career. He made two Pro Bowls, in 2016 and 2017, and also lifted the Lombardi Trophy after winning Super Bowl XLVIII with his former team.

Baldwin was released by the Seahawks earlier this offseason after a failed physical.

Now, the 30-year-old will ride off into the sunset, content with what was a very successful NFL stint.

Raiders’ Martavis Bryant is expected to miss Sunday’s game against the Seahawks after he got the flu as the team traveled to London, where the game will be held.

Bryant was picked by the Raiders weeks after they cut him in the preseason. The 26-year-old has been impressive so far, increasing his stats week after week. After logging 30 yards in his first two games this season, he elevated to 51 yards in week four and then jumped to 91 in the fifth game.

With the wide receiver’s flu, Oakland can only be hopeful he will have felt better and be ready for Sunday’s crucial game. If not ready, the Raiders will rely on their first choice players Amari Cooper and Jordy Nelson. The Raiders have also been reliant on Jared Cook when it comes to passing the ball, but their offense hasn’t been good.

Elsewhere, the LA Rams announced on Saturday wide receivers Cooper Kupp and Brandin Cooks will be available for Sunday’s game against the Broncos after recovering from injuries.
