Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are in the final stages of completing a deal for Senegal forward Sadio Mane. Bayern agreed to pay up to €41 million for the player’s services to Liverpool, and the transfer is expected to be completed in the coming days.

Bayern’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic already confirmed the deal to Sky Sports News.

“Yes, Sadio is coming to Bayern,” said Salihamidzic when asked about Mane.

According to reports, Liverpool will receive €32 million upfront for Mane. The remaining €9 million is subject to various clauses and add-ons. Mane himself already agreed to personal terms with Bayern and will reportedly ink a three-year deal.

Sadio Mane was expected to leave Liverpool this summer, considering that he had only one year left on his contract. Bayern immediately emerged as the 30-year-old’s biggest fan, but the two clubs went back and forth over price in recent weeks. The Reds became more open to lowering their demands after completing a record deal with Benfica for attacker Darwin Nunez earlier this week, which proved crucial for speeding up the talks.

Mane will leave Liverpool having scored 120 goals in all competitions since he joined the club in 2016. He won several trophies at Anfield, including the Premier League title and UEFA Champions League.

Senegal has won the 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations after edging out Egypt on penalties in the championship match on Sunday. This is the first AFCON trophy for Senegal, with the country finally managing to get on top after finishing as runner-up two times before.

The game itself got off to an exciting start after Senegal was awarded a penalty kick in the fourth minute of the contest. Mohamed Abdelmonem made a reckless challenge in the box, and the referee had no other option but to point to the spot. Sadio Mane stepped up to the task, but his shot was stopped by Egypt’s goalie Mohamed Abougabal.

The game offered a few thrills but no goals from that point on. Both teams were more focused on keeping their net intact and opted to wait for their chances from counterattacks. This led to scoreless 90 minutes, and the teams were in for another 30 minutes of soccer.

Both Egypt and Senegal made an effort to win it all in extra time, but Abougabal and his counterpart Edouard Mendy once again stepped to the challenge and caused the game to be decided on penalties.

In the shootout, Senegal was the more composed team, converting three penalty shots in the first four series. On the other hand, Egypt missed two and needed Mane to miss again to stay in the match. Following their UEFA Champions League win, Liverpool faced a harsh reality of their top two players Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane being courted by Europe’s richest clubs. But it seems like the team and the fans have nothing to worry about, as Salah and Mane have reportedly decided to reject big contract offers from other clubs in favor of staying in the Premier League.

According to The Daily Mirror‘s John Richardson, Salah and Mane had a talk with Liverpool executives in the past few days, and informed them that they have passed on tempting offers from “leading continental clubs.” The duo intends to stick around for at least one more year and try to help the club win Premier League trophy.

Mohamed Salah was particularly interesting to a number of clubs, with Real Madrid and Juventus preparing offers in the range of $200 million for his services. Still, when these clubs approached Salah for contract negotiations prior to sending the offer, the 27-year-old Egyptian forward turned them down.

Although he wasn’t as spectacular as in 2017/18, Salah still managed to deliver a great season and provide 22 goals and eight assists in the national competition. He also added five goals in Champions League.

Sadio Mane was also on Real Madrid’s radar. The La Liga giants tried to lure him to Spain last summer, but Mane opted to stay in England, and it looks like he will do the same in 2019 as well.

Mane scored 26 goals in all competition this past season.

After winning 2-0 at Anfield in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final matchup against FC Porto, Liverpool just had to be sure not to slip up at the Estádio do Dragão in order to advance to their second consecutive semi-final in the competition.

They certainly didn’t disappoint, as Jürgen Klopp’s Reds comfortably cruised to a 1-4 victory in Portugal to advance into the final four of the competition.

Liverpool suffered a few scares in the first 25 minutes of the game, as they struggled to create offensive chances and saw Porto get shots on goal several times.

The first time Liverpool got a shot, however, it was a different story. Sadio Mané scored to put the Reds up 0-1 in the 26th minute, virtually sealing Liverpool’s place in the next round.

After the break, superstar forward Mo Salah joined the ranks of the scorers with a 65th-minute goal to put his team up by 2.

Eder Militão headed in Porto’s only goal just three minutes later to add a tiny bit of suspense to the contest, but a Virgil van Dijk and a Roberto Firmino goal for Liverpool in the game’s final stretch certified Liverpool’s advance into the semi-finals.

There, a huge matchup awaits against FC Barcelona, possibly the competition’s favorite. The semi-final tie will open at Camp Nou on May 1 before moving to Anfield on May 7.
