The Tampa Bay Buccaneers joined the growing list of teams that want to add free-agent cornerback Richard Sherman to their roster, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Arians discussed the possibility of signing Sherman and revealed that the Bucs’ general manager Jason Lich already contacted the five-time Pro Bowler.

“Jason’s reached out. We got to see,” Arians said. “He’s got other things going on too.”

Tampa Bay found themselves in need of a corner after starter Sean Murphy-Bunting dislocated his elbow and landed on the injured reserve last week. Murphy-Bunting is expected to miss at least three weeks but could be sidelined even longer depending on the seriousness of the injury.

The Buccaneers are expected to face competition for Sherman in the San Francisco 49ers, who also keep tabs on the player. The 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters last week that the team had internal discussions about signing the 33-year-old star after starter Jason Verrett suffered a season-ending injury in Week 1.

Besides the Bucs and 49ers, Sherman is reportedly also drawing interest from the New Orleans Saints and the Seattle Seahawks.

Richard Sherman spent the previous three years with the 49ers after signing a $39 million contract with the franchise in 2018. He managed to play only five games last season due to a calf strain.

San Francisco 49ers’ Pro Bowl corner Richard Sherman will remain on the injured reserve list for at least one more week. This was confirmed to reporters by 49ers’ head coach Kyle Shanahan on Monday.

Sherman landed on IR in Week 2 due to a calf injury, with the San Francisco hoping to have him back in time for Week 6 game against LA Rams. The 32-year-old corner, however, suffered a setback in his rehabilitation process last week that prevented him from returning to practice.

Shanahan told the media that he isn’t counting on Sherman this week, but hopes a change of treatment will help him return to action soon.

“We were hoping to get him back this week,” said Shanahan. “Some setbacks last week, the healing hasn’t gone the way we were hoping for. I know we’re going to try a few different procedures this week, but I know I’m not counting on him this week. We’ll see how that goes with the new stuff we’re gonna try.”

This is a tough blow for the injury-riddled San Francisco 49ers, considering they are quite thin at cornerback. Besides Sherman, the 49ers are also without Emmanuel Moseley, who is dealing with a concussion, and K’Waun Williams, who is out due to a sprained knee.

In their absence, San Francisco had to turn to practice squad-signee Brian Allen and Jason Verrett. The duo started Week 5 game against Miami Dolphins but mightily struggled and allowed 350 yards and three touchdowns.

The San Francisco 49ers have unexpectedly placed cornerback Richard Sherman on the injured reserve list because of an unspecified leg injury.

This means that Sherman will have to miss at least three weeks before he can come back, according to league rules. So as soon as he could see live game action would be in Week 5 against the Miami Dolphins, a game that will be played on October 11 in San Francisco.

Reports have hinted on the leg injury being a calf strain.

Sherman looked completely healthy in Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, in which he played 78 of 82 defensive snaps. The only snaps that Sherman was not on the field for were the last four that Arizona used to run out the clock at the end of the game.

The 49ers are already very thin at cornerback. The other veteran CB on the roster, Jason Verrett, has a hamstring issue, and right now, the 49ers only have three healthy cornerbacks on the active roster.

Sherman suffered a ruptured right Achilles in late 2017, which is probably why the 49ers are being very cautious with any lower leg injuries he may have.

All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman spent seven years with the Seattle Seahawks, where he established himself as one of the best CBs in the NFL before he was released by the organization back in March. Sherman, who then signed a deal with the San Francisco 49ers, now decided to share some of his thoughts about his former employers.

In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Sherman said that Seahawks “lost their way” and made too many mistakes in the past.

They’ve lost their way,”- said the 30-year-old. “It’s as simple as that. They’ve just lost their way. When you make too many mistakes over a long period of time, you kind of dig yourself a hole. And then when you backtrack, you gotta make a bunch of rash decisions to try and fill the hole and hope that it holds up.”

Mistakes and poor judgment on things ruined what could have been a really special deal,” – he added. “You don’t have much left right now.”

After an underwhelming past few seasons, Seattle Seahawks decided to “clean the house” and move on from most of the players that were part of their famous starting secondary nicknamed “Legion of Boom.” Besides Richard Sherman, defensive end Michael Bennett also left the team in the recent months and All-Pro safety Earl Thomas could follow since the talks about his new contract stalled for some time now.

To say you’re not going to pay Earl Thomas is just … There’s no decline in play there.” – said Sherman. “He’s played the game the right way. Who do you have to pay? You have the two best linebackers in the game. You have the quarterback. You have a great wide receiver in Doug [Baldwin]. And you’re paying Duane Brown.

A fifth-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, Richard Sherman was named First-Team All-Pro three times and earned four Pro Bowl selections during his time with the Seahawks. He was also the part of the team that won the Super Bowl in 2013 season when Sherman was NFL interceptions leader.

It didn’t take long for All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman to find a team after being released by the Seattle Seahawks. Sherman signed a three year deal with the Seahawks NFC West rivals San Francisco 49ers. According to ESPN, the deal is worth up to $39.15 million.

Richard is one of the premier competitors Kyle and I have ever encountered,” – said general manager John Lynch in a statement. “We look forward to him sharing his wealth of experience and his passion for the game of football with our team. Richard has long been looked at as the prototypical corner in our scheme, and the opportunity to have him mentor our players was one we needed to attack. Most importantly, we are excited to have a championship-caliber corner on the field for the 49ers.

According to Sherman, the opportunity to face his former team twice in the 2018 NFL season played a big role in making his decision saying: “I’m vengeful in that way.

Vengeful,” – Sherman added. “I love the fan base to death, and I loved playing there. It was such a great opportunity. I helped the organization get to a great place and stay there. But now it’s like I abandoned them. People are out there burning my jersey. Come on. I’m not the one who let me go. They let me go. I didn’t abandon anybody.

According to the reports, after getting the offer from 49ers, Richard Sherman reached out to Seahawks to see whether they are interested in matching the offer, but he got a negative answer. He also spoke with the Oakland Raiders and Detroit Lions, before finally settling on San Francisco.

Although Seattle Seahawks won their Thursday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, there wasn’t much reason for celebration. Their star cornerback Richard Sherman has left the game in the third quarter and didn’t return. It was later revealed that Sherman ruptured his Achilles tendon which will cause him to miss the rest of the season. He will undergo a surgery once the swelling from the injury goes away.

No coming back from that until you get surgery,” – Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said. “He’s been a bastion of consistency, competitiveness, and toughness. We’re going to miss the heck out of him.

There is no doubt that the Seahawks will miss their starting cornerback, especially since their injury list started being bigger with each passing game. Besides Sherman, left tackle Duane Brown and running back C.J. Prosise also left the game against the Cardinals early.

Sherman told the reporters that his Achilles has been bothering him for some time now, but he tried to avoid getting a drastic intervention.

One of those things that you have to play through for as long as you can. When it goes, it goes.” – said Sherman. “I’ve put a lot of stress on it. Think it would have gone eventually.

Richard Sherman never missed an NFL game since he was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the round 5 of 2011 NFL draft. Previously he played college football for Stanford Cardinal football team. Despite low expectations and doubts about his ability, Sherman took NFL by surprise and had 17 passes defended, 4 interceptions and 55 tackles in 10 games played earning 2011 PFW All-Rookie Team selection. During his NFL career, Sherman won the Super Bowl XLVIII in 2013 while leading the league in interceptions, and received numerous individual honors like 4 Pro Bowl selections, 3 First-team All-Pro selections. Sherman’s career NFL statistics include 367 tackles, 99 passes defended, 32 interceptions and 2 touchdowns.

We all know that athletes make the big bucks. A normal working person won’t see salaries like these in their lifetime no matter how many hours they put in.

Fortunately, there are some athletes that make the most of their huge salary by giving generously to charity. What’s more, the world’s most generous athletes aren’t always folks you might expect.

Let’s dive in!

This Former Champ Puts Her Money Where Her Mouth Is

Ronda Rousey became an international star when she was the first female to sign with UFC.

Since her huge loss to Holly Holm, Rousey’s trash talking outside of the ring hasn’t matched her recent performances. Luckily, she means what she says when it comes to giving her money to charitable causes.

Through Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services, Ronda has had a hand in transforming and supporting 90,000 adults and children who suffer from mental health and substance abuse.

She also spreads her own wealth around. At her last charity auction, a pair of hand wraps raised $3 million dollars to benefit the Lighthouse Preschool.

Eli Manning’s Lasting Impact On Charity

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning is known for giving back to people. So much that he was given the Walter Payton Man of the Year award for his lasting impact on charity.

As his star began to rise, so did his paycheck, and in turn, his commitment to charity. In the span of five years, he raised $3 million for the Eli Manning Children’s Clinic in Mississippi, which serves 75,000 children who need outpatient care.

Manning isn’t the only quarterback that spends his time working for children. Keep reading for more!

Russell Wilson Gives Time To The Kids

Seattle Seahawks star quarterback Russell Wilson puts in some major time when it comes to charity. Wilson enjoys his charity work so much that he’s on weekly hospital visits with Seattle Children’s Hospital, and that’s not all.

He also has his own charity, Why Not You, which lends a hand to support various children’s causes.

It’s not all about athletes with squeaky clean images like Wilson’s. Keep reading for truly unexpected figures.

International soccer star Neymar uses charity as ammunition when it comes to racking up trophies for Barcelona. Neymar’s family has a charity in his home country of Brazil called The Instituto Projeto Neymar Jr. This foundation partners with the FC Barcelona Foundation to promote sports as a tool for socializing young children. It works with 2,400 disadvantaged children.

Neymar’s team also helped Brazil fight Ebola by bringing in clean water to the country.

Serena Williams is famous for doing the impossible as a champion tennis player. She’s constantly taking her craft to the next level, and that includes winning the Australian Open while eight weeks pregnant. But did you know she’s also heavily involved in charity?

She’s a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, and in her spare time helps build schools in Africa. As it stands, she’s involved in 12 charities. Nothing can keep this girl down!

Michael Phelps’ Swim Initiative

Despite Michael Phelps’ image taking a hit due to his DUI arrests, the most celebrated Olympian of all time has always been charitable outside of the pool.

With major sponsors like Speedo, Omego, and Visa, Phelps makes some serious bank, but he doesn’t rest on his laurels. Instead, he launched his own foundation called the Michael Phelps Foundation. With a focus on swimming, the foundation gives children the opportunity to be proactive in the pool.

Phelps also partners with KidsHealth.org and helps with programming for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

John Cena is one of the classiest guys in the WWE. He’s a world wrestling champion and title holder for many years, but also gives back to the community in a huge way. As the most requested athlete for Make-A-Wish-Foundation, he has taken his time to grant 500 wishes.

Additionally, Cena has been heavily involved in the Susan G. Komen Foundation and has raised funds for cancer research. Most recently, he donated his time for a meet and greet backstage at Monday Night’s Raw. Proceeds raised went to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

Miami Dolphins defense tackle, Ndamukong Suh is as polarizing as they come. He’s known for being a “dirty” football player and has been dragged through the mud in controversy after controversy due to “inappropriate plays.” But here’s something he’s not as well known for — his charitable ways.

He started the Ndamukong Suh Family Foundation in an effort to give back to Nebraska. More recently, Suh made sure a local elementary school had new backpacks with school supplies for their students.

King LeBron Gives Back In A Big Way

Depending on who you ask, LeBron James may be one of the best basketball players of his generation, or of all time. One thing haters can’t dispute is his dedication to helping others in need. Back in 2011, the LeBron James Family Foundation raised $3 million for 59 different Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide. LeBron helped kids by wheeling out 1,000 brand new HP computers and we’re really just getting started here.

In 2015, he raised $41 million so he could send over a thousand children to school.

Currently, James is involved with the year-round programs that his foundation supports, specifically aimed at the Akron, Ohio community and its youth.

The Most Charitable Athlete

Cristiano Ronaldo may get headlines for being a heartthrob or for his hot-headed behavior on the soccer field, but this footballer does a ton for charity. The Real Madrid star was named the most charitable athlete in 2015 when he donated $53,000 for the operation of a 10-month old baby. He also donated $10,500 to a research center for cancer and paid a nine-year-old cancer patient’s medical bills. Cancer is close to his heart because his mother went through her own battle.

Most recently, Ronaldo donated his $600,000 champion bonus to an NGO charity. Other charities he’s supported over the years include World Vision, Save the Children, and UNICEF.

Seahawks’ Other Generous Player

NFL player Richard Sherman is known for his arrogance on the football field, but this Seattle Seahawks cornerback has a huge heart when it comes to charity. Through his family-owned foundation, Blanket Coverage, he helps students achieve their goals and stay focused on brighter futures. The foundation has supported low-income families with school supplies and clothing for children.

Sherman isn’t just focused on one cause. Recently, he donated $2,500 to The ALS Association.

Maria Sharapova Serves Up Generosity

Maria Sharapova is arguably one of the most famous female athletes of her generation. The professional tennis player is known for being one of 10 females to hold the career Grand Slam record, and is also killing it in the charity department, too.

Sharapova launched the Maria Sharapova Foundation while also becoming a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Program. Think that’s all? Not a chance! Sharapova donated $100,000 to Chernobyl projects.

Recently, she started a scholarship program with UNDP. This $210,000 scholarship will help students from Chernobyl-affected areas from Belarus.

Yuna Kim’s Charitable Retirement

Yuna Kim may not be a household name, but she gives a ton to charity. The South Korean skater became the first to take home a medal in the Olympic Games for her sport. After setting multiple world records, including Four Continents Championships and the Grand Prix Final, she decided to retire, which left more time to focus on charities.

She’s been one of the leading voices who has made appeals for the children of Syria through her role as Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF. She’s also donated hundreds of thousands in relief aid to the Philippines, Haiti, Japan, and made a $100,000 donation to Nepal.

Heather O’Reilly’s Progressive Spirit

Professional soccer player Heather O’Reilly is known as a midfielder for Arsenal Ladies of FA WSL, and her historical FIFA Women’s World Cup lift, but did you know she gives back in a big way?

O’Reilly works steadily with the Women’s Sports Foundation which hopes to advance the lives of young women and girls through physical activity. She also lends her hand to Teammates For Kids, Right To Play, and Athlete Ally. The latter charity is a nonprofit that puts its focus to ending homophobia through sports education.

The Youngest Charitable Athlete

The youngest athlete on the list, Mo’ne Davis, is also one of the most charitable. At 15-years-old, the former little league pitcher — who was the first girl pitcher to win the Little League Series — is just starting her life, but she’s already heavily involved in charity.

A few years ago, the athlete decided to launch her own line of sneakers. Proceeds from her sneakers went to the “Because I am a Girl” project, which helped four million girls who are struggling in undeveloped parts of the world.
