“Richard is one of the premier competitors Kyle and I have ever encountered,” – said general manager John Lynch in a statement. “We look forward to him sharing his wealth of experience and his passion for the game of football with our team. Richard has long been looked at as the prototypical corner in our scheme, and the opportunity to have him mentor our players was one we needed to attack. Most importantly, we are excited to have a championship-caliber corner on the field for the 49ers.“
According to Sherman, the opportunity to face his former team twice in the 2018 NFL season played a big role in making his decision saying: “I’m vengeful in that way.“
“Vengeful,” – Sherman added. “I love the fan base to death, and I loved playing there. It was such a great opportunity. I helped the organization get to a great place and stay there. But now it’s like I abandoned them. People are out there burning my jersey. Come on. I’m not the one who let me go. They let me go. I didn’t abandon anybody.“
According to the reports, after getting the offer from 49ers, Richard Sherman reached out to Seahawks to see whether they are interested in matching the offer, but he got a negative answer. He also spoke with the Oakland Raiders and Detroit Lions, before finally settling on San Francisco.
