Wide receiver Nelson Agholor has agreed to a one-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens, making him the team’s first free agent signing during the current offseason. Agholor will sign a one-year, $3.25 million deal with the team which could reach up to $6.25 million with incentives.

For the Ravens, Agholor’s signature goes a long way to boosting what has been considered the NFL’s least-productive wide receiver group. The team was ranked last in 2019, 2020, and 2022 and will be looking to improve its wide receiver reputation. The team could also look to bolster its wide receiver ranks further by signing another player or picking one in the first round of the NFL Draft.

Agholor visited the Ravens’ facilities earlier this week. Upon arriving in Baltimore, the 30-year-old was reunited with new Ravens wide receiver coach Greg Lewis, who was his position coach with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2016.

Following his four seasons with the Eagles, Agholor played for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2020 before signing for the New England Patriots, whom he played for in the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

Longtime college coach Willie Taggart has been hired by the Baltimore Ravens to oversee their running backs, the team confirmed on Wednesday. The veteran coach will take over from Craig Ver Steeg, who coached the running backs over the past three seasons. Ver Steeg, who has been with the Ravens since 2008, could be assigned to a different role.

“We are excited to welcome Willie to the Ravens as our running backs coach,” Ravens head coach John Harbaugh announced. “Willie has been a highly successful and respected college assistant and head coach. He has a proven track record for developing players as a position coach, as an offensive coordinator, and as a head coach. A leader and a highly effective motivator, Willie’s reputation for building strong relationships with his players and fellow coaches will serve our offense well moving forward.”

During his college football coaching days, Taggart was the head coach of Florida State, Oregon, Western Kentucky, South Florida, and most recently Florida Atlantic, where he coached for three seasons before his dismissal in November.

The Ravens also announced that wide receivers coach Tee Martin will now assume the role of the Ravnes’ quarterbacks coach.

Roquan Smith has agreed to a five-year contract extension with the Baltimore Ravens, a team source confirmed on Wednesday. According to the NFL Network, Smith’s deal is worth $100 million, making him the highest-paid inside linebacker in the league.

Not only will the contract extension prevent the Pro Bowl middle linebacker from becoming a free agent in two months, but it will also grant the Ravens the opportunity to use their franchise tag on quarterback Lamar Jackson, who has almost finished the fifth-year option on his rookie contract.

Acquired from the Chicago Bears in exchange for second and fifth-round picks in the 2023 NFL draft, Smith has proven to be a crucial member of the Ravens’ roster, finishing as the NFL’s third-leading tackler this season (169), being named to his first Pro Bowl as a result. With this milestone, Smith has become the first player since Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis to make 100 tackles or more multiple sacks and one interception in each of the first five seasons of his career.

“He wants to do the things that are required to be a great player and to be a great unit and then to impact your team,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said of the player.

The Baltimore Ravens are expected to face divisional rivals Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 14 without their starting quarterback Lamar Jackson. But it is not all bad news for the Ravens. Their starting running back J.K. Dobbins, and veteran safety Marcus Williams have been activated off Injured Reserve and are expected to play in the game.

Dobbins went down with a knee injury in Week 6 and has been out ever since. Before the injury, the 23-year-old made four starts and 123 yards and a touchdown. In his absence, the Ravens turned to undrafted back Gus Edwards.

Williams, on the other hand, dislocated his wrist in Week 5. The 26-year-old player, who came to Baltimore on a five-year $70 million contract in the offseason, played well to start the campaign. He totaled three interceptions, five passes defended, and 33 tackles.

Despite the returns of Dobbins and Williams, the Ravens are still far from healthy. Besides Jackson, who is dealing with a thigh injury, Baltimore also has guard Kevin Zeitler (knee), linebackers Patrick Queen (thigh) and Kristian Welch (concussion), and guard Patrick Mekari (toe) listed as questionable. They also saw a number of key players land on IR, including wide receiver Rashod Bateman and corner JalynArmour-Davis.

The Baltimore Ravens confirmed on Sunday evening that Lamar Jackson’s knee injury will not rule him out of action for the rest of the season.

“It’s going to be a number [of] days to weeks. We’ll see,” Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said after the team’s 10-9 victory over the Denver Broncos. “We’ll see if he can go back this week. If not, it’ll be sometime after that shortly.”

Harbaugh added that Jackson will undergo further testing on Monday and that the team would know by Wednesday how long he will be sidelined.

Jackson was injured while trying to elude the pass rush during the victory over the Broncos. Last year, he was also injured in December, with the Ravens sitting atop the AFC North standings then as well.

Filling in for Jackson was backup quarterback Tyler Huntley, who led a game-winning, 91-yard drive in the final minutes of regulation time. He finished the game 27-of-32 for 187 yards with one interception. According to Ravens tight end Mark Andrews, Huntley has exhibited plenty of confidence as well as the composure he needs to fill in for Jackson.

The Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews is expected to return from injury in time to face the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, sources revealed to ESPN.

Andrews missed the Ravens’ 27-13 victory over the New Orleans Saints in Week 9 as he was recovering from shoulder and knee injuries. The player appeared to be recovering well during the Ravens’ bye in Week 10 and was upgraded to a full participant in Friday’s training after spending the previous two days as a limited participant.

News of Andrews’s return will be a welcome sight for the Ravens, given that he currently leads the team in receptions (42), receiving yards (488), and touchdown catches (5). This is the first time in Andrews’s five-year career that he has missed a game due to injury.

Star quarterback Lamar Jackson and running back Gus Edwards are questionable for Sunday’s game. While Jackson is battling illness in an effort to be fit for the game, Edwards is faced with hamstring and knee injuries. Both players are expected to be fit in time to play in at least a limited capacity.

A source confirmed on Tuesday morning that the Baltimore Ravens are close to signing running back Kenyan Drake. The 28-year-old player, who is expected to undergo a medical shortly, visited Baltimore after being released by the Las Vegas Raiders a week ago.

Drake would be a welcome addition to the Ravens’ roster, particularly as the team’s running back lineup appears depleted as of late. A knee injury is keeping starting running back J.K. Dobbins from participating in the first week of the new NFL season, while top backup Gus Edwards is out for at least the first four games, also courtesy of a knee injury.

With 545 total yards and two touchdowns last season, Drake’s time with the Raiders was cut short just one year after he signed a two-year, $11 million deal with the team. His season was also cut five games short after suffering a broken right ankle. Prior to his arrival in Las Vegas, Drake gained 3,266 total yards and scored 27 touchdowns during his three years with the Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals.

Despite the Baltimore Ravens losing three of their running backs J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards, and Justice Hill for the season, they still managed to keep their ground game on a high level and are currently the fourth-best rushing team in 2021. Reportedly, this put the rest of the league on notice and resulted in multiple trade inquiries coming Baltimore’s way.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, several NFL teams have contacted the Ravens in recent weeks to gauge their interest in trading some members of their current RB core. Baltimore is still waiting on responding to the offers, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see them dealing some of their fringe backs.

A series of bad luck and injuries have caused Baltimore to lose their top three RBs on the depth chart in a span of 10 days. The Ravens bounced back by slotting second-year player Ty’Son Williams as a No.1 back and signing veterans Latavius Murray, Devonta Freeman, and Le’Veon Bell, and have fared exceptionally well so far.

Williams, seeing his first action as a pro this year, has rushed for 164 yards and a touchdown while averaging an impressive 6.1 yards per carry.  Murray, on the other hand, has 151 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

Freeman and Bell, both Pro Bowlers earlier in their careers, have not made a great impact, but that is understandable considering they started their time with the franchise on the practice squad list. Freeman has six rushing attempts for 41 yards, while Bell carried the ball four times and has 11 yards.

Baltimore Ravens finished the 2019 NFL season with the best record in the league and entered the playoffs as the biggest favorites to win it all. However, their road to the Super Bowl ended in the Divisional Round, where they suffered a 12-28 defeat to the Tennessee Titans.

Now, the Ravens’ quarterback Lamar Jackson decided to offer an explanation for his team’s shocking elimination during a recent appearance on the Load Management podcast. According to Jackson, Baltimore underestimated the Titans, and it came back to bite them.

“That’s what happened in the playoffs, and we end up losing to the team people had us favored over,” said Jackson. “It’s any given Sunday. You can’t underestimate no team, no opponent, and that’s what we did.”

Jackson, who won the NFL MVP award in 2019, also admitted that he made a significant contribution to the loss. The 23-year-old signal-caller threw two interceptions and had a forced fumble that sealed Ravens’ fate in that game.

“I had a lot of mistakes on my behalf,” said Jackson. “Three turnovers—that shouldn’t happen. But [Tennessee] came out to play.”

The Baltimore Ravens are among the Super Bowl favorites this season as well, and there is no doubt that their players will be motivated to avenge the loss against Tennessee. Lamar Jackson especially.

New England Patriots won’t be having a perfect season in 2019. After an 8-0 start, Patriots met their match on Sunday night, when they suffered a 37-20 defeat to Baltimore Ravens. The only remaining undefeated team in NFL are San Francisco 49ers.

This was the Pats’ first loss Week 15 of the 2018 NFL season when they were beaten by Pittsburgh Steelers. Following that game, New England embarked on a 16-win streak, including the postseason.

New England fell behind early in the game and never managed to recover. They especially had problems with stopping Ravens’ running game, giving up season-high 155 rushing yards in the first half. It was also the first time this season that Patriots gave up four offensive touchdowns in one game.

Baltimore was powered by their second-year quarterback Lamar Jackson, who became the youngest QB to defeat a team with 8-0 or better record. Jackson completed 17 out of 23 passes he attempted, throwing for 163 yards with one touchdown. He also added 61 rushing yards and two rushing TDs.

Running back Mark Ingram also had a great night, having 116 yards on 15 carries.

“We knew they had one of the best running attacks in the NFL this year and they were able to really run the ball, we struggled stopping the run, and it pretty much gave them control of the game,” – said Pats’ Pro Bowl safety Devin McCourty after the game. “They were able to play it on their terms, and that’s what hurt us the most.”

Ravens now sit comfortably at the top of AFC North with a 6-2 record. They face winless Cincinnati Bengals next week.

Pats, on the other hand, have a bye in Week 10 before having another tough opponent in Philadelphia Eagles in Week 11.
