Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola has won practically everything there is to win as a manager in club soccer. This is why it doesn’t come as a surprise that Guardiola would also like to have his shot at the international stage.

Speaking with ESPN Brasil, Guardiola said that he wants to coach a national team before he wraps up his managerial career.

“I would like to train a national team for a World Cup or a European Championship. I would like that,” Guardiola said when asked what’s there left for him to achieve.

Guardiola added that he doesn’t know when he might decide to pursue a national team job and that he wouldn’t do it for the sole purpose of winning the trophy but to live through the experience of managing a team at the World Cup.

“I don’t know when that would be, if that is five, 10, 15 years from now, but I would like to have the experience of being a manager in a World Cup,” he added.

Pep Guardiola has won a total of 37 trophies during his time managing Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City. Despite being linked with various national jobs in the past, he is unlikely to leave club football anytime soon, considering his contract with Man City runs until the summer of 2026.

While the red side of Manchester is going through all sorts of drama in recent days, the blue side of the city is busy celebrating the stay of their storied manager Pep Guardiola. Reigning Premier League champions Manchester City just announced that Guardiola inked a new contract that will keep him with the club through the 2024-25 season.

Guardiola’s previous contract was set to expire next summer. Man City now becomes the only club in Spaniard’s career with which he signed three contracts. He left both Barcelona and Bayern Munich after his second contract ran out.

“I am so pleased to be staying at Manchester City for another two years,” Guardiola said in a statement. “I can’t say thank you enough to everyone at the club for trusting me. I am happy and comfortable, and I have everything I need to do my job as best as possible.”

Reportedly, the new contract for Guardiola has been in the making for some time now. While there was no doubt for Manchester City that they wanted to keep their successful manager on board, Guardiola himself needed some time to think things through. Sources close to the manager said that he wanted to make sure the decision to stay in Manchester was right for all parties involved, including his family.

In the end, Guardiola decided he likes the stability and support he receives at Man City too much to just walk away. It also doesn’t hurt that he has some of the best players in the world that can make his vision of soccer a reality on the pitch.

Since arriving in 2016, Guardiola has led City to four Premier League titles and seven cup trophies. However, he never managed to win the Champions League with the club, although many believe that is only a matter of time.

Despite constant rumors about his future, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola seems like he isn’t thinking about a change of scenery. Speaking with reporters on Friday, Guardiola said that he is happy with his current job and wants to stay with Man City for years to come.

Guardiola never spent more than four seasons at one job, and his fourth season with City is underway. Still, the 48-year-old Spaniard, whose contract runs until the summer of 2021, wants to reach that mark with his current club.

“If the people say do i want to stay? I want to stay,” – said Guardiola. “I don’t have any reasons to move from here. I am incredibly satisfied to work with this club, with these players, and if the people think I am going to resign or be sacked for these results and nine points behind the people doesn’t know me so I like to be in this challenge, I love to be in this position. And if the club wants [me] next season I want to be here 100%.”

Pep Guardiola enjoyed big success with Manchester City in the domestic competition, winning back to back Premier League titles in the last two seasons. However, Guardiola’s team struggled in the Champions League where their biggest success was reaching the Quarter-finals.

This season, things look a bit different for Man City. While they play great Champions League football, sitting at the top of their group with three wins and a draw, the club isn’t at its finest in Premier League. City is currently sitting in fourth place, being nine points behind leader Liverpool.
