Forward Shane Pinto is back with the Ottawa Senators. Pinto inked a one-year deal with the franchise that is valued at $775,000.

Pinto became a restricted free agent after the 2022-23 NHL season but didn’t land a contract in the offseason due to a 41-game suspension he received from the league in October. The 23-year-old player is already eligible to return to the ice.

While Pinto didn’t play at all this season, Senators’ head coach Jacques Martin already plans to use him for the game against the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday. According to Martin, Pinto remained in shape throughout his suspension and is eager to get back into action.

“He’s been skating for quite a while now. So I think he’s anxious to get back in the lineup,” Martin said. “So he’ll be a pleasant addition.”

Pinto also said that he believes he’s ready to play as soon and as much as Martin asks of him.

“I’ve been training for a while. I’m fresh, my body feels good,” said Pinto. “That’s a coach’s decision. But, I feel like I could play however much he wants me to.”

Pinto played in all 82 games with the Senators last season. He scored 20 goals and added 15 assists. It was his first full season in the NHL.

The Ottawa Senators star defenseman Thomas Chabot is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks after he suffered a broken hand, coach D.J. Smith announced. Chabot was placed on long-term injured reserve on Saturday as a result.

The Ottawa Senators didn’t think too much about using the opportunity to lock their talented defenseman Jake Sanderson to a long-term contract. The team announced on Thursday that Sanderson inked a new eight-year extension that will keep him with the franchise through the 2031-32 NHL season.

The deal is worth $64.4 million and comes with an average annual salary of $8.05 million. It also give Sanderson a 10-team no-trade clause that will come in effect during the last three seasons of the agreement.

Sanderson made his NHL debut in the 2022-23 season, playing 77 games and contributing with four goals and 28 assists. He was selected to the NHL’s All-Rookie Team at the end of the campaign.

“He’s a very mature young man who demonstrates a routine and skillful ability to play important minutes with poise,” said. “An effortless skater who holds himself to a high standard, he has the talent to be one of the best all-around defensemen in the NHL for years to come. We’re very pleased to have another significant member of our core group of players under long-term contract.”

The Senators didn’t need to address Sanderson’s contract before next offseason but probably decided to do so in order to get themselves a team-friendly deal. Considering how Sanderson played last season, the expectations are that he will continue to develop and outperform his contract down the line.

It was also an easy decision for Sanderson. He received a deal that pays him above market price for his position and gives him long-term security.

Snoop Dogg is not only one of the most recognizable figures in rap music but also a successful entrepreneur, cookbook author, and TV personality. And if his most recent venture ends up being successful, he will also add NHL team owner to his resume.

Snoop recently confirmed on social media that he is getting involved in the bidding process for NHL’s Ottawa Senators. He became part of the ownership group led by Los Angeles-based businessman Neko Sparks.

According to a recent report by The Athletic, Snoop has been really “passionate” about the prospects of becoming the Senators’ owner. His plan is to give the team more exposure, thanks to his popularity on social media, get involved in the day-to-day operations and make hockey more accessible to minorities and fans from lower-income backgrounds.

“He’s passionately involved. He’s coming up with ideas. And he’s legitimately excited,” a source close to the matter told the media outlet. “He wants this team.”

Besides Snoop, the group led by Sparks also includes dozen other investors. Reportedly, Sparks wants to have a diverse consortium of owners and intends to be aggressive in his attempts to acquire the franchise.

Sparks’ group is facing tough competition as several other high-profile groups have been circling around the Senators. One of them is so-called The Remington Group, which includes Hollywood celebrity, Ryan Reynolds.

The Ottawa Senators are keeping the talented forward Josh Norris with the franchise for the foreseeable future. The team announced earlier this year that Norris re-signed on an eight-year deal that will pay him $63.6 million.

Norris entered the restricted free agency this summer on the back of a career year that saw him contribute 35 goals and 20 assists for a total of 55 points in 66 games. While these numbers were enough to create a buzz around the 23-year-old player, the Oxford, Michigan, native had his mind set on staying in Ottawa.

“I love the city of Ottawa. I love being there,” said Norris. “I think we’re going to have a really, really awesome group going forward.”

Speaking about the deal, Senators general manager Pierre Dorion said that the team is excited to witness Norrris’ further growth as an “exceptional NHL player.”

“His scoring prowess has already shown to be a considerable asset for us and one that will help us reach the next level,” Dorion added.

Josh Norris joined the Senators as part of the trade that sent All-Star Erik Karlsson to the San Jose Shark in 2018. Since then, Norris skated in 125 games with the Senators and has 90 points.

The Chicago Blackhawks made a significant roster shakeup on Thursday, trading their All-Star forward Alex DeBrincat to the Ottawa Senators. The Blackhawks will receive three draft pick in exchange, which, in theory, should aid their rebuild efforts.

The package coming to Chicago includes the seventh overall pick and No. 39 selection in the 2022 NHL Draft. They will also get the third round in 2024.

The Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson described the decision to trade DeBrincat as “incredibly difficult” but said that he believes the move will benefit the organization in the long run.

“We feel as if this move sets the Blackhawks up for future success by giving us additional flexibility and future talent,” Davidson said in a team-released statement.

The Chicago Blackhawks have been stuck in NHL purgatory since they lifted the Stanley Cup in 2014–15. The franchise has made the postseason three times since then but failed to advance past the first round. The Blackhawks also failed to reach 30 wins in the past two seasons, prompting the organization to take the rebuild path.

Alex DeBrincat spent all of his five years in the NHL with the Blackhawks. He earned his first All-Star nod in 2021-22 after scoring 41 goals and adding 37 assists for a career-high 78 points. DeBrincat played a total of 368 games in the league and contributed 307 points.

The last remaining restricted free agent in the NHL is off the market. The Ottawa Senators announced on Thursday that they’ve managed to come to an agreement with forward Brady Tkachuk, who inked a new seven-year deal with the franchise.

The deal, concluded hours before Ottawa’s 2021-22 season opener, will see Tkachuk remain with the Senators through 2027-28. The 22-year-old’s contract is valued at $57.5 million and comes with average annual earnings of $8.214 million.

Tkachuk is coming off a strong showing in 2020-21, when he played in all 56 games and led Ottawa in points with 36 (17 goals, 19 assists).

“This is an exciting day for the Ottawa Senators,” said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion in a statement. “Brady possesses a very dynamic skill set and is a prototypical power forward in today’s NHL. He scores goals, he plays physical and exemplifies what it means to be a pro for all players in our organization.”

The Senators selected Brady Tkachuk with the fourth overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft and immediately slotted him into their lineup. This proved to be a great choice, as Tkachuk responded with the 45-point campaign. He followed that up with an All-Star-worthy sophomore year in which he had 21 goals and 23 assists for a total of 44 points.

After a long tenure of strict COVID-19-induced health regulations, sports teams located within the Canadian province of Ontario will be allowed to host full capacity crowds in their arenas going forward after being permitted to do so by the provincial government.

Announced by Ontario Sports Minister Lisa MacLeod on Friday, this new regulation will affect the NHL teams of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators as well as the NBA’s Toronto Raptors. This eased ruling has already taken effect.

While the number of attendees permitted at indoor sports events has been increased by the province of Ontario, there are still a number of health guidelines that will be strictly enforced on gamedays. This includes the requirement for all attendees to produce proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to gain access to the facility.

Following this latest ruling, the Vancouver Canucks are the last remaining NHL team that is not permitted to host a full-capacity crowd at home games. Currently, the province of British Columbia only allows for indoor crowds to reach a maximum of 50% capacity.

Ottawa Senators continued their busy offseason by snatching one of the top remaining free agents on the market. The team confirmed on Thursday that they have signed Evgenii Dadonov to a three-year contract.

Dadonov’s deal with Senators comes with a total value of $15 million and will see him earn $3.5 million next season, $5 million in 2021/21, and $6.5 million in the last year of his contract. The 31-year-old winger reportedly also got a 10-team modified no-trade clause as part of the agreement.

Dadonov is coming off a productive season with Florida Panthers in which he scored 25 goals and added 22 assists for a total of 47 points in 69 games.

“We’re thrilled to have come to an agreement with Evgenii,” said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion. “He’s an elite offensive talent and a very consistent scorer as demonstrated by his point totals over the past three seasons. This is a key signing for us as it adds a player who will help us produce offensively and one with a proven track record on the power-play.”

Evgenii Dadonov spent the better part of his career playing in native Russia and has been prominently used by Panthers only since the 2017/18 NHL season. Dadonov’s stats in the National Hockey League include 91 goals and 111 assists in 280 games.

Ottawa previously acquired goaltender Matt Murray from Pittsburgh Penguins, immediately signing him to a big contract extension, while also taking three first-round picks in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
