Orlando City and head coach Oscar Pareja reportedly agreed to a contract extension. The club is also reportedly working on new deals with technical director Ricardo Moreira and executive vice president Luiz Muzzi.

Pareja’s contract was set to expire at the end of 2023. The new deal is expected to keep him with the MLS side at least through the 2025 campaign.

Keeping Pareja around made sense for Orlando City, considering he is the most successful head coach in the club’s MLS history. Since the Colombian took over in 2020, Orlando has made the MLS Cup playoffs every year. Pareja also brought the club its first trophy, winning the U.S. Open Cup in 2022.

The 2023 campaign was also a resounding success for Orlando City. They finished the regular season in second place in the Eastern Conference and made the quarterfinals of the MLS Cup, matching its previous best postseason achievement.

Oscar Pareja is an MLS veteran, having played in the league in the late ’90s and early ’00s. He also coached Colorado Rapids and FC Dallas, winning the MLS Supporters’ Shield and U.S. Open Cup with the latter in 2016. Pareja also spent two seasons in Liga MX coaching Club Tijuana.

Orlando City SC secured a place in the Eastern Conference semifinals of the MLS Cup Playoffs after beating Nashville SC 1-0 in the second game of the best-of-three Round One series on Tuesday night.

Orlando got an early lead thanks to Iván Angulo’s goal in the sixth minute and did just enough to keep the score intact. The first match between the two teams also saw Orlando get a 1-0 win.

Orlando City’s coach, Oscar Pareja, said after the game that his team could have made the win more comfortable but was pleased with the effort the players put in.

“We played a very complete match, especially because we were solid in the attacking areas and could have probably scored a couple more goals,” Pareja said. “We continue with our journey thinking that we can do it. We are very proud and I want to congratulate the players on the tremendous effort that they have done.”

This is the first time in three MLS Cup Playoffs trips that Orlando City SC managed to advance past Round One. They will now face either Columbus Crew or Atlanta United FC in the single-match Conference Semifinals.

Columbus got a 2-0 win in the opener before Atlanta took Game 2 with a 2-4 win. The two teams are set to meet again in Game 3 decider on Sunday.

Forward Alexandre Pato has agreed to the terms of a new one-year contract, Orlando City confirmed on Saturday. The Brazilian national, who joined the MLS club last February, injured his knee in the 2021 season opener against Atlanta United.

While Pato was only able to make four appearances last season, Orlando general manager Luiz Muzzi remains confident in the 32-year-old’s ability to make a positive impact on the team this season.

“He’s been working hard to return to top form and we’re looking forward to him having an impactful year for the club. We’re excited for him to return and play an important role both on the field and in the locker room this season,” Muzzi confirmed in a statement.

Pato joined Orlando after his contract with the Brazilian club Sao Paulo ran out. The high point of Pato’s career came between 2007 and 2013, when the then-rising star played for Italian giants AC Milan.

While playing for the Rossoneri, Pato won the 2010-11 Serie A title as well as the Italian Super Cup in 2011-12. He has also made 27 appearances for the Brazilian national team, scoring 10 goals and winning the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup.

Portuguese star winger Nani will leave Orlando City SC after his contract with the club expires at the end of the year. This was confirmed by the MLS franchise on Friday.

According to the official announcement, Orlando chose to decline Nani’s option for the 2022 MLS season.

Nani also addressed the news via a statement posted on Twitter in which he confirmed that Orlando didn’t want to offer him a new deal.

“I shall never forget how the fans and community supported me and my family ever since the moment we arrived in Florida,” Nani added. “You will have in me a friend and a fan for the future. I wish you all the best.”

Nani was arguably Orlando City’s best player since joining the club in 2019. As the team’s captain, he managed to lead Orlando to two playoff appearances, and the MLS is Back Tournament finale. Overall, he made 88 appearances in all competitions and scored 31 goals with 18 assists. His brilliant performances earned him two MLS All-Star nods.

It is certainly shocking to see Orlando City moving on from such a valuable player, especially since Nani had a great season in 2021. The most likely reason for this decision is probably Orlando’s unwillingness to make a significant financial commitment. Nani was playing on a Designated Player contract and was earning around $2.5 million annually.

Still, this might not be the end of the ex-Manchester United star in the MLS. Nani showed that he can still play on a high level, and it wouldn’t be surprising if other teams start making calls to keep him in the United States.

Former Brazil international and AC Milan forward Alexandre Pato has an offer from Orlando City, according to multiple reports.

Pato has been a free agent since he left Brazilian club Sao Paolo back in August on mutual contract termination. The 31-year-old star attracted interest from a number of teams from Asia and South America in recent months but is still to decide on his future.

Orlando is reportedly looking to exploit Pato’s hesitance and bring the Brazilian to the United States. It is believed that the MLS team presented the player with a competitive offer and believe they have a chance to sign him.

Orlando is facing a rival in Argentinos Juniors, who are also pursuing Alexandre Prato. Their interest was even confirmed by the club’s president Cristian Malaspina, who recently told TyC Sports that he believes Pato could help the team challenge for Copa Libertadores.

Pato started his professional career with Internacional and was considered one of the most talented players of his generation. This secured him a transfer to AC Milan, where he initially showed promise and delivered on the expectations.

Unfortunately, after a couple of successful seasons in Italy, Pato started to have issues with injuries and struggled to remain on the field. This caused Milan to sell him to Corinthians in 2013 and kickstart a journeyman period of his career.

Pato also played for Sao Paolo, Chelsea, and Villareal, among other clubs in the past several years but didn’t manage to get his career back on track. He did flash occasional glimpses of his talent, however, and this is what still makes him an interesting player for many clubs.

Orlando City won’t be able to count on striker Dom Dwyer for the remainder of their MLS is Back Tournament campaign.

The club confirmed on Sunday that Dwyer is dealing with a knee injury and had to leave the team in order to get an MRI test. According to the official announcement, “the timeline required for both quarantine and return-to-play training” won’t allow the 29-year-old striker to be on head coach Óscar Pareja’s disposal for the rest of the competition.

Dom Dwyer made only one appearance on MLS is Back Tournament, playing in the opener against NYCFC and failing to get on the scoreboard.

Even without Dwyer’s contributions, Orlando City managed to put together an impressive run so far in the tournament. They finished first in the Group A with two wins and a draw, while defeating Montreal Impact in the first round of knockout stage.

Dwyer has been with Orlando City since 2017, joining in a mid-season trade with Sporting Kansas City. Since then, he played 67 games in MLS with Orlando and scored 24 goals. He also has nine assists to his name.

Orlando City SC continues to make splashes in the offseason, reshaping the rosters that finished with the third-worst record in MLS in 2019. The team announced on Monday that they have landed veteran Brazilian midfielder Junior Urso from Brazilian powerhouse Corinthians.

According to reports, Urso joins Orlando via transfer, but the exact fee remains undisclosed. The 30-year-old’s salary in MLS is believed to be bigger than the salary cap allows, but the club hasn’t decided yet whether he will be registered as a designated player.

Urso leaves Corinthians after just one season, having played 48 games and scored five games during his time with the organization.

“We are very excited to welcome Junior Urso to Orlando City,”  said Orlando City executive vice president of soccer operations Luiz Muzzi in a statement. “Coming from a renowned club like Corinthians, he brings a great amount of international experience to Orlando while allowing us to add more depth and a new skill set to our midfield. He possesses great vision and abilities on the ball, and we expect him to make an immediate impact on our roster.”

Junior Urso spent the early part of his professional career in native Brazil before heading to China in 2014, where he signed with Shandong Luneng. After three years with Luneng, during which he helped the club to the Chinese FA Cup trophy, Urso joined Guangzhou R&F.

It seems like Orlando City SC really mean business at the start of 2019 MLS season. After signing former Manchester United winger Nani, Orlando now managed to add another significant member to their roster by signing Swedish international defender Robin Jansson.

Jansson comes to MLS after playing with AIK from Sweden’s Allsvenskan, where he spent 12 months and helped the team to win their first national title in nine years.

The deal was confirmed on Orlando City’s official social media.

“Robin is a guy that we’re excited to bring to Orlando after the success he has had overseas in Sweden,” – said Orlando City executive vice president of soccer operations Luiz Muzzi in a statement. “This signing continues to build depth and competition within our group for the 2019 season.”

After inking the deal, Jansson went on social media and expressed his excitement about joining the team.

“Exciting new challenge with @OrlandoCitySC !” – the 27-year-old wrote on Twitter. “I’m happy to be here and looking forward to the season. Massive thanks to my managers and team at vmcgroup for making this transfer come true and giving me the opportunity to continue living my dream!”

Robin Jansson spent his entire career in native Sweden, where he played for several clubs including Bengtsfors IF, IK Oddevold, and AIK. He also received his first call up to Sweden’s national soccer team in 2019.

Orlando City SC decided to part ways with head coach Jason Kreis on Friday in an attempt to shake things up after six straight losses in the Major League Soccer. The team has confirmed the news on their social media.

This is a very difficult decision to take, but sometimes in sports, we must make tough decisions with the best future of the organization in mind,” – said Orlando City CEO Alex Leitao in a statement. “I have enormous respect for Jason and the work his team did in Orlando. He arrived in a difficult moment and is leaving with a legacy of respect and professionalism. Now is the time to look forward, keep our heads high and continue pushing toward the many goals we set this season.

Orlando City SC started the season in great fashion, posting a 6-2-1 record, but then lost six consecutive games including a 0-3 defeat against Montreal Impact. Majority of these losses came in a convincing fashion since Orlando conceded 20 goals and scored only 5. This team’s poor run caused them to slip down to sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings. Assistant Bobby Murphy will serve as an interim until Orlando City SC finds a long-term replacement for Jason Kreis.

Kreis joined the Orlando halfway through 2016 season as a replacement for Adrian Heath, leading the team to eighth place in the Eastern Conference. In 2017, the team struggle once again, finishing on the 10th place.

Prior to Orlando, Jason Kreis coached New York City FC, and Real Salt Lake, with whom he has won MLS Cup in 2009.

The New York Red Bulls are moving on from their midfielder and USMNT member Sacha Kljestan. The team has sent Kljestan to Orlando City SC alongside $150,000 in targeted allocation money, getting forward Carlos Rivas and defender Tommy Redding in exchange.

It may be a strange decision for the Red Bulls to trade away their captain and league’s assist leader, but it looks like that was the best choice for both sides.

Listen, it was not an easy decision,” – said Red Bulls sporting director Denis Hamlet. “We assessed our roster both in terms of how we can improve our team and a situation that was advantageous for Sacha and looked and spoke to different teams and saw the ability to add two young players in Carlos Rivas and Tommy Redding who we know pretty well obviously from playing them over the last three years in the Eastern Conference.

On the other hand, Orlando City SC was very pleased to have got a man who had 20 assists in past MLS season.

“We are thrilled to bring Sacha to Orlando,” – said team’s general manager Niki Budalic. “His ability to see the field and make the final pass will be huge assets for us. But more than that — he’s a winner. He’s won everywhere he’s gone, and we look forward to that continuing here.

Sacha Kljestan started his professional soccer career with Chivas USA in 2006 and spent four years with the team before heading to Europe. In Europe, he signed with Belgium’s Anderlecht in 2010 and played 132 matches while scoring 18 goals. He returned to the United States in 2015 when he signed with the Red Bulls. Kljestan also represented the United States on a national level 52 times, scoring on six occasions.
