Oakland Raiders will play on Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum stadium in 2019 as well. According to the Review Journal, The Coliseum Authority unanimously voted to extend Raiders’ lease for one more year, fiving the team an opportunity to play a farewell season in Oakland before relocating to Las Vegas in 2020.

According to reports, the Raiders will be required to pay $7.5 million in rent for using the stadium and headquarters in Alameda. The agreement also has a $10.5 million option for 2020, in case that the team’s new stadium in Las Vegas doesn’t get finished on time.

It appeared that the Raiders will have to find a new home for 2019 season after Oakland sued the team and NFL for Las Vegas move. This prompted the team’s owner, Mark Davis, to end the negotiations about extending the lease for using Oakland Coliseum in 2019 and start exploring new options. Several other venues were considered, including playing at San Francisco Giants’ Oracle Arena.

Davis has been looking to relocate the Raiders since 2011 and ultimately decided to move the team to Las Vegas. NFL team owners approved the move in March 2017 with the plan that Raiders start playing their home games on Las Vegas Stadium in 2020. The stadium, worth $1.8 billion, is still under construction and is expected to be finished until August 2020.

The Oakland Raiders will have a glorious home for 2020 and beyond with their Las Vegas’ stadium being an astonishing piece of architecture. But the issue is that there’s still a full season to be played until then and Raiders have nowhere to go. That is unless San Francisco Giants give them a helping hand.

According to Associated Press, Raiders are currently negotiating with the Giants about the possibility of playing home games at their Oracle Park in 2019. The sources say that nothing has been finalized yet, but that confirmation should be expected next week.

When asked about this, the team’s owner Mark Davis said that the team isn’t ready to make the announcement about it just yet.

“When we’re ready to make the announcement, we will.” – Davis told ESPN.

Oakland Raiders are currently without a stadium since the city of Oakland decided to sue the team and National Football League due to the planned move to Las Vegas. After the suit was filed in December, Davis ended the negotiations with the city about extending their lease for Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum for 2019.

Despite this, Raiders are considering re-opening the negotiations or sharing Levi’s Stadium with San Francisco 49ers since NFL will start making the schedule for 2019 soon and need a decision by then.

According to the multiple media outlets, including ESPN and NFL Network, Oakland Raiders have fired their general manager Reggie McKenzie. NFL Insider Ian Rapaport’s sources told him that McKenzie had a meeting with his scouts on Monday, where told them about the Raiders’ decision.

McKenzie reportedly has a chance to stay with the organization until the end of the season but is unlikely to do so. The 55-year-old was under contract through 2021, having signed an extension in 2016.

This comes as a surprise, given the fact that Reggie McKenzie was supposed to be a part of the Oakland Raiders rebuilding process which began with signing head coach Jon Gruden to a 10-year, $100 million deal before the start of the season. McKenzie then played a big part in trading away All-Pro linebacker Khalil Mack and Pro Bowl wide receiver Amari Cooper for future first-round draft picks.

After working on several executive positions with the Green Bay Packers, Reggie McKenzie was appointed as the Raiders general manager in 2012. During his era, Raiders made one playoff appearance in 2016, their first time since 2002, but didn’t have much success overall being 39-70.

Reportedly, the reason for McKenzie’s departure is that he and Jon Gruden had different opinions about the way the Raiders will go through the rebuilding process.

Oakland Raiders are currently among the worst teams in NFL, having won only two games this season. The truth is that the Raiders are not keen on winning much this year, hoping that they will get the first overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. But it looks like not all members of the organization share the same mindset.

Raiders’ Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Carr told the reporters on Wednesday that he wants to spoil his team’s plans and that he “doesn’t want the first pick” in next year’s draft.

I want to mess up the draft,” – said Carr. “I don’t want the first pick. I want to win all these games. I want everybody to be mad at me for that. That’s what I want to accomplish.

Derek Carr might even manage to get his wish come true since the Oakland Raiders are facing a fierce competition in the race to lose most games in 2018. Besides the Raiders, San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals also have a 2-8 record and maybe an even bigger motivation to lose. 49ers gave up on this season after both their starting quarterback and backup suffered injuries, while Cardinals want to get high picks in order to surround their rookie QB Josh Rosen with weapons.

While the Raiders didn’t manage to win as many games as Derek Carr would like, the 27-year-old is still managing to put together a solid season. Carr is completing career-high 70.6 percent of his passes and has thrown for 2,633 yards and 12 touchdowns in the first 10 games of this season.

Raiders’ Martavis Bryant is expected to miss Sunday’s game against the Seahawks after he got the flu as the team traveled to London, where the game will be held.

Bryant was picked by the Raiders weeks after they cut him in the preseason. The 26-year-old has been impressive so far, increasing his stats week after week. After logging 30 yards in his first two games this season, he elevated to 51 yards in week four and then jumped to 91 in the fifth game.

With the wide receiver’s flu, Oakland can only be hopeful he will have felt better and be ready for Sunday’s crucial game. If not ready, the Raiders will rely on their first choice players Amari Cooper and Jordy Nelson. The Raiders have also been reliant on Jared Cook when it comes to passing the ball, but their offense hasn’t been good.

Elsewhere, the LA Rams announced on Saturday wide receivers Cooper Kupp and Brandin Cooks will be available for Sunday’s game against the Broncos after recovering from injuries. Both players had suffered concussions. Another player off the injury list is Panthers’ Greg Olsen who comes back from a foot injury that placed him in the sidelines for one month.

Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden isn’t having a great start to the 2018 season as he hoped for when he signed a 10-year, $100 million contract with the team in January. Back then, the 55-year-old announced big things and promised that his team would play great football. Instead, the Raiders are now one of the rare NFL teams with a 0-3 record and pretty much out of playoff picture.

It looks like Gruden realized that he can’t back up his previous statements, and has now started to preach patience, saying that the “results will happen” at some point.

It’s justifiable,” – said Gruden off criticism aimed towards him after a bad start. “I have a pretty good idea of what this business is all about. But I’m also realistic. I’m also very optimistic. I’m going to continue to work hard. I think I have as good a coaching staff as there is in football. The results will happen. It might not happen this week. It might not happen this month, next month, but we’re going to get results here, and we’re going to get this Oakland Raider football team back on track. We just have to prove it.”

It wasn’t a surprise that Oakland Raiders looked at Jon Gruden as their savior. He already coached the team with success between 1997 and 2001 and was the man who denied them a Super Bowl trophy in 2002 as a coach of Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Raiders had a winning season only once since then, and it was almost poetic when they turned to Gruden and convinced him to come out of semi-retirement.

But, the football changed a lot since Jon Gruden coached the last time, and it remains unclear how will he adapt to the new NFL. So far he struggled, but our hunch tells us that the Raiders will give him more than enough time to settle in even if that means one or two embarrassing seasons.
