The Toronto Raptors are looking to part ways with some of their key players after a nine-game losing streak dropped them to the No.11 spot in the Eastern Conference and out of the playoff contention.

According to ESPN’s NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the Raptors informed other teams that they will listen to offers for All-Star Kyle Lowry and guard Norman Powell. Both players have multiple suitors, although neither deal seems close to being finalized just yet.

Lowry is particularly drawing attention from the Miami Heat and the Philadelphia 76ers, although Wojnarowski points out that both teams “have shown restraint in how far they’ll go” to pull off a trade.

Powell, on the other hand, is almost certainly gone with the question only being who will make the best offer to get him.

Kyle Lowry is playing his ninth season with the Raptors, having joined the organization in a trade from Houston Rockets in 2012. He earned six All-Star nods in Toronto and helped the franchise win an NBA title in 2019.

While Lowry established himself as one of the franchise legends, the Raptors’ decision to move him isn’t surprising. Toronto is seemingly heading towards a soft rebuild, and getting assets for a 34-year-old player on an expiring contract would be a great way to kick start the process.

Norman Powell, who is currently playing his best NBA season and averaging 19.5 points per game, is also heading towards free agency. Powell is expected to reject his player option and explore the market, where he’ll likely find offers that the Raptors will have a hard time matching.

Toronto Raptors will face a significant setback in the upcoming weeks, as their guard Norman Powell is looking towards an extended downtime due to an injury. Powell injured his left shoulder during Raptors’ win over Utah Jazz on Wednesday and will be reportedly sidelined for four to six weeks.

The Raptors declined to give a definite timetable for 25-year-old’s return, saying that he will be out “indefinitely.”

This will certainly be a blow for Toronto Raptors bench, which has performed extremely good under Norman Powell’s leadership. Powell is averaging 5.0 points and 2.0 rebounds per game while playing 15 minutes on average.

Raptors are currently the best team in the NBA, having lost only one game this season and sitting at the top of Eastern Conference with 11-1 record.

Norman Powell entered the league in 2015 when Milwaukee Bucks took him in the second round of that year’s NBA draft. He never played a single game for Buck, however, and was traded to the Raptors where he became one of the team’s most valuable bench players.

Powell had a very good year in 2017-18, in which he averaged 8.4 points and 2.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists, which resulted in the Raptors giving him a four-year contract extension worth $42 million. The deal, which started running this season, includes a player option for the fourth year.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Toronto Raptors agreed to a four-year, $42 million contract extension with guard Norman Powell. The $42 million was the max Raptors could give to Powell, who impressed in his sophomore season. With this extension, Powell is now set to become a core piece in the franchise’s future.

I’m ready for it,” Powell said. “It’s what I’ve worked for. It’s what I’ve fought for my first two years. . . I’ve worked, I’ve pushed myself in a totally different way this offseason. I’m preparing myself for a full 82-game season, for increased minutes, taking care of my body, just training and trying to improve. So I’m ready for it. I’m excited to get the season started.

Norman Powell played college basketball at UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) where he spent 4 seasons. He was one of the team’s most consistent performer and thought about entering the NBA draft following his junior year. After he was informed that he may not be drafted at all, Powell decided to return to UCLA for his senior year. At season’s end, Powell was voted first-team All-Pac-12, and again received honorable mention for the All-Defensive Team. He also finished as team’s leader in scoring with 16.4 points per game. Powell entered the 2015 NBA draft and was taken by the Milwaukee Bucks with the 46th overall pick. The Bucks later traded Powell alongside 2017 first round pick to the Raptors in exchange for Greivis Vásquez. After a solid rookie season, Powell emerged as an important bench piece for the Raptors in his second season. He was particularly great in the playoffs, where he averaged 11.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game. With DeMarre Carroll being shipped to the Brooklyn Nets, Powell will certainly move up to the starting line-up in the upcoming season and hopefully justify his contract.
