The Tennessee Titans have agreed to a one-year deal with veteran quarterback Trevor Siemian according to a report by his agent Mike McCartney.

Siemian, who spent the better part of the 2016 and 2017 seasons as the Denver Broncos’ starting signal-caller, will move on to back up Ryan Tannehill in Tennessee after spending two seasons as a backup with the Vikings and Jets.

The former Northwestern quarterback was taken by Denver in the 7th round of the 2015 Draft and spent his first season backing up Peyton Manning in the Broncos’ Super Bowl-winning campaign.

After that year and Manning’s retirement, he assumed the reins as the starter at the position and delivered mixed results, throwing 30 touchdowns and 24 interceptions as his team struggled over the next couple of seasons.

Two backup jobs have defined Siemian’s career ever since, with his only regular season action taking place last season with the Jets as he made a Week 3 start. Unfortunately for Siemian, he suffered a torn ankle ligament just a few minutes after debuting, meaning that his 2019 season ended prematurely.

In Tennessee, Siemian is expected to back up Tannehill and serve as an injury insurance policy in case Tannehill experiences health issues.

He is expected to report to Nashville for training camp this week.

The San Francisco 49ers and star tight end George Kittle had been working towards a contract extension all summer, and reports now indicate that a mega-deal has been reached.

Kittle and the Niners, according to multiple sources including the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, have agreed to a five-year, $75 million contract which is the largest in the league’s history for a tight end.

The deal includes an $18 million signing bonus as well as $40 million in guaranteed money.

It comes as no surprise that the defending NFC Champions were willing to offer such a large sum of money to Kittle considering his important status as one of the team’s offensive stalwarts. Since being drafted in the fifth round of the 2017 Draft, Kittle has developed into arguably the league’s best player at the position.

A two-time Pro Bowler and a first-team All-NFL selection this season, the 26-year-old TE is lauded both for his receiving ability as well as his fearsome and tenacious blocking. He was quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo’s favorite target last season, snagging 85 balls for 1,053 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Kittle’s new contract will keep him tied to San Francisco through the 2024 season. The team is expected to formally announce the agreement at some point over the coming days.

The San Francisco 49ers made a move to lock up one of the league’s most talented tight ends on Monday, signing former Pro Bowler Jordan Reed to a one-year deal for the 2020 season.

Reed, who is 30 years old, will earn a relatively low base salary on his contract but will have the chance to earn much more due to performance incentives. It’s a move that makes sense both for Reed and the 49ers, as he has dealt with injury problems that have severely limited his time on the field in recent years.

The 2016 Pro Bowler has had a history of concussions and did not play last season due to concussion-related problems that were brought to a head after a concussion suffered in the preseason.

When on the field, Reed was productive as a member of the Washington Football Team, catching 329 passes for 3,371 yards and 24 touchdowns in six seasons with the team.

With that said, Reed has never played in more than 13 games in a season.

The 49ers hope that their new talented acquisition has put his injury problems behind him and will be a major contributor and target for QB Jimmy Garoppolo in the 2020 season.

The Minnesota Vikings have reportedly agreed to a multi-year contract extension with head coach Mike Zimmer, which will keep him at the helm of the team for the foreseeable future.

Zimmer, who took over in Minnesota prior to the beginning of the 2014 season, has turned the Vikings’ fortunes from a stretch of mediocrity to a consistent playoff contender.

The 64-year-old Illinois native, whose only losing season with the Vikings was in his first year in 2014, has since made the playoffs three teams and won the NFC North division crown twice.

He has been praised for his steady hand and defensive expertise, keeping the Minnesota franchise stable and competitive despite not having a wealth of star players.

His biggest success with the team so far came in 2017, when the Vikings finished tied for the league’s best record at 13-3. They advanced to the NFC Championship Game before falling short to the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.

Zimmer is the owner of a 57-38-1 record since taking over in 2014, and has managed a 2-3 record in the playoffs.

The veteran coach will now look to build on his prior success as he leads the Vikings forward into the 2020s.

We’ll have to wait the regular season in order to enjoy football again. According to multiple reports, the NFL decided to cancel all preseason games in 2020.

NFL previously discussed several options for the preseason amid the coronavirus pandemic, including playing two games compared to the usual four. However, with the health crisis getting worse in recent weeks, the league made a proposal to the NFL Players’ Association to have no preseason games.

The union accepted the offer on Tuesday and officially informed the players.

NFLPA previously pushed for this scenario, as they believe it will lower the safety and health risks of the players. Still, having no preseason games will bear some significant challenges.

Usually, preseason games were a great way for undrafted players to impress and make the roster. Veterans also had the chance to solidify their place on the depth chart or show enough to get a chance from another organization.

The preseason football also enables teams to shake off the summer rust and get them in the game shape ahead of the regular season.

Despite all of this, the decision to have no games ahead of the start of the regular season is probably the wisest thing. It will help the league avoid unnecessary risk, and it won’t be such bad news for fans, as they can’t attend.

Veteran defensive end Michael Bennett, a three-time Pro Bowl pick and the owner of a Super Bowl ring, has announced on Instagram that he will retire from football.

The eleven-year veteran, who was best known for being a critical part of the Seattle Seahawks’ “Legion of Boom” in the middle of the 2010s, will hang up the cleats after a career in which he tallied a total of 359 tackles and 69.5 sacks.

After joining the league with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M in 2009, Bennett quickly moved on to Tampa Bay, where he spent the majority of his first four years in the league.

He then returned to Seattle as a free agent in 2013 and quickly became one of the most feared end rushers in the NFL, making three Pro Bowls from 2015 to 2017 and playing a key part in the Seahawks’ Super Bowl XLVIII win over the Denver Broncos.

Bennett then spent his final two seasons bouncing around between the Philadelphia Eagles, New England Patriots, and Dallas Cowboys, in which he recorded a total of only 6.5 sacks in 31 games played.

At the age of 34, Bennett will now ride into retirement and leave behind the legacy as having been one of the best defensive ends of the 2010s.

The Tennessee Titans and star running back Derrick Henry have reportedly agreed to terms on a deal that would make him one of the highest-paid players at his position in the league.

The deal is reportedly for four years and includes $25.5 million in guaranteed money, with the potential value of the deal reaching $50 million.

Henry, who burst onto the scene in 2019 as one of the top backs in the league, was given the franchise tag by the Titans earlier this summer as the two sides worked towards a long-term deal.

The former Alabama running back was named a Pro Bowler last season after leading the National Football League in rushing yards with 1,540 and scoring 18 total touchdowns.

Henry spent his first three years in Tennessee as a part-time starter after being drafted in the 2nd round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He broke the 1,000 rushing yard barrier for the first time in his career in 2018, but almost no one could have expected his huge breakout 2019 season.

The burly carrier was especially impressive in the playoffs, helping the Titans to a surprise AFC Championship Game berth before falling to the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

Now, the Titans can rest easy knowing that they have a franchise running back locked up through the 2023 season.

The Denver Broncos announced on Tuesday that former head coach Mike Shanahan will become the team’s newest inductee to its Ring of Fame.

Shanahan, arguably the most successful coach in the franchise’s history, has led the Broncos’ to an all-time regular-season winning record of 138-86.

Shanahan’s tenure in Denver, which lasted from 1995 until 2008, also saw him oversee two Super Bowl championships, which came in back-to-back seasons in 1997 and 1998.

The Illinois native finished his tenure with the Broncos with seven playoff berths and nine winning seasons, establishing his mark as a franchise legend before being fired following three straight seasons without a playoff berth from 2006 to 2008.

Shanahan tried his luck one more time in the league, taking over the Washington Redskins in 2010 and leaving after four disappointing seasons at the helm.

While Shanahan will be inducted to the team’s Ring of Fame this season, the team plans to honor its legendary head coach with a ceremony next season due to the uncertainty surrounding the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The team will announce plans about the ceremony at some point next year as it looks to give its most successful head coach the honor he deserves.

2018 League MVP and this year’s Super Bowl-winning quarterback Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to a massive contract extension with his team which will end up being the biggest contract in the history of the league.

Mahomes agreed to a ten-year deal with the Chiefs on Monday, a deal which is expected to not only be the richest in the history of the NFL, but also the richest in the history of professional sports.

The deal, which will keep Mahomes in Kansas City until 2031, will reportedly pay Mahomes a base salary of around $450 million with bonuses that could raise the contract’s value above $500 million.

The contract extension also reportedly contains a no-trade clause as well as an injury guarantee of $180 million.

While this deal has no precedents in the history of sports, it’s easy to see why the Chiefs agreed to this huge commitment to keep its biggest star in town. Mahomes has become arguably the league’s best quarterback over the past two seasons, leading his team to its first ever Super Bowl victory earlier this year.

While it wasn’t cheap to do so, the team now knows that it is set at the quarterback position for the next decade.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has agreed to sign a franchise tag with his team this week, which will give the franchise a few weeks to work out a long-term deal with their star signal-caller.

Prescott, who has developed into one of the biggest stars at the position in the league since being drafted in the 4th round of the 2016 NFL Draft, will earn a big raise after spending the first four seasons of his career on his modest rookie deal.

The Mississippi State alum is set to make $31.4 million this season after signing the franchise tag. However, Prescott’s main goal will be to sign a long-term deal that will provide him with this sort of money over multiple seasons in pre-training camp contract negotiations.

Prescott has twice been named a Pro Bowler and has thrown for 97 touchdowns and only 36 interceptions since coming into the league and winning the starting job for Dallas in 2016.

Perhaps even more impressive has been Prescott’s durability and consistency. The signal caller has played in and started all 64 regular season games of his professional career, and has also started all three of his team’s playoff games during his tenure.

Now, Cowboy fans must wait and see if their team is able to reach a deal with their star quarterback to remain in Dallas for the long-term.
