The New York Red Bulls completed the transfer for midfielder Emil Forsberg, the MLS side announced on Saturday.

The 32-year-old Swedish international midfielder will join NYRB from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig. Both clubs are part of Red Bull’s network of soccer clubs, which also includes Austria’s FC Red Bull Salzburg and Brazil’s Red Bull Bragantino and Red Bull Brasil.

According to the official announcement, Forsberg will join the New York Red Bulls on a three-year contract and will occupy the Designated Player spot. His contract also includes a club option for the 2027 season.

The New York Red Bulls right back Kyle Duncan will parlay his great performances during the 2021 campaign into a move to Europe. According to multiple reports, Duncan is set to join Belgian side KV Oostende after his deal with the MLS team expires at the end of the year.

The media in Belgium already consider the move to be a done deal, while Brian Sciaretta of American Soccer Now also confirmed the news based on his sources close to the situation.

Duncan emerged as one of the NY Red Bulls’ most important and reliable players this season, making 32 appearances and 27 starts. He also managed to contribute with one goal and three assists.

The MLS side reportedly made a strong effort to keep him in the United States, but Duncan preferred to return to Europe where he was previously a member of Valenciennes. It is believed that the 24-year-old also drew interest from Ligue 1 club Stade Reims before choosing Oostende.

Kyle Duncan spent his youth career with the Red Bulls but decided not to sign a professional contract with the team and instead joined Valenciennes in 2015. He spent three years in France without making a single first-team appearance, which prompted him to return to the MLS.

Duncan represents the United States at the international level. He had his debut with USMNT in 2020 and this turned out to be his only cap so far.

Austrian soccer coach Gerhard Struber will be the man who’ll try to get New York Red Bulls back to its winning ways. Red Bulls confirmed on Tuesday that Struber agreed to take over as the team’s new head coach, inking a multi-year contract with the organization.

Struber comes as a replacement for Chris Armas, who was fired in early September following a disappointing start of the 2020 season. Red Bulls are currently sitting seventh in the Eastern Conference and are on the brink of securing a playoff spot.

Following Armas’ dismissal, Red Bulls quickly zeroed in on Struber, seeing him as a good fit for their squad. The organization did its due diligence with other candidates but remained confident in their first choice.

“Gerhard is a bright coach, and we’re very pleased to welcome him to the club,” said Red Bulls’ head of sport Kevin Thelwell. “Gerhard’s playing style and experience in youth development align with our philosophy, and above all, as a person he fits into our culture. We look forward to him getting here and working together to achieve the goals we have set as a club.”

Gerhard Struber arrives in MLS after spending the two previous years with the English Championship side Barnsley. He helped the team avoid relegation to the third-tier last season while leaving them 21st at the start of the 2020/21 season.

Reportedly, Red Bulls agreed to pay undisclosed compensation to Barnsley in order to get Struber out of his contract with the English club.

Struber previously also spent time with Red Bull Salzburg’s youth teams and was at the helm of Austrian Bundesliga side Wolfsberger AC.

Columbus Crew is the latest team to make it to the knockout stage of MLS is Back Tournament. The crew secured the spot on Thursday night thanks to a 2-0 win against New York Red Bulls.

After ending the first half with a lead, Columbus then immediately scored at the start of the second period. Midfielder Lucas Zelarayán increased the lead to two in the 47’ minute with a powerful and beautifully place shot outside the penalty box.

After a disappointing managerial stint with Ligue 1 powerhouse Monaco, French legend Thierry Henry is still unemployed. That might change soon as Henry emerged as a possible candidate for a head coaching job in MLS with New York Red Bulls according to several reports.

This would be a return to a familiar surrounding for Henry, who spent five years playing for Red Bulls between 2010 and 2014 and won Supporters’ Shield with the organization in 2013. He made 122 appearances for the team during that time and scored 51 goals.

New York Red Bulls opened 2019 poorly after finishing the last season with the best record in the regular season and making it to the semi-finals of MLS Cup. They are currently sitting 12th in the Eastern Conference having won just one game in their previous six. Current Red Bulls head coach Chris Armas was hired midway through 2018, replacing Jesse Marsch.

Thierry Henry announced his retirement from soccer in 2014 and immediately started his coaching career by taking over Arsenal’s youth teams. He then served as an assistant with the Belgium national team for two years before being named Monaco’s manager in October 2018 after Monaco dismissed Leonardo Jardim following a disappointing start of the season.

Henry didn’t last long with Monaco, however, as he was dismissed after 20 games in charge during which he posted a 4-11-5 record.

Jamaican international Kemar Lawrence established himself as one of the best left back in MLS since joining New York Red Bulls in 2015, and now he is getting a reward for his fine form. Red Bulls officially confirmed that Lawrence signed a multi-year extension with the team. The financial details of the contract were not disclosed.

Kemar has continued to grow as both a player and person here, and has earned this new contract,” – said Red Bulls sporting director Denis Hamlett in a team statement. “He is one of the best outside backs in our league, and his strengths make him a perfect fit for our team and our style of play. Kemar has played a key role in our success over the last few seasons and we’re pleased to have him continue to be part of our club.”

This new deal shuts the rumors about Lawrence’s proposed move to Europe, at least for now. The 26-year-old still wants to follow his dream and play in English Premier League, but he is ready to wait it out and focus on Red Bulls until then.

You always want to reach for the stars or play in the best leagues in the world, which is probably England or Germany, but I feel like personally, this doesn’t really change anything” – said Lawrence after signing the deal. “I feel like if I keep playing at a top level, keep being the best I possibly can be with the help of God and my teammates and coaches, I feel like then teams will take a look, teams will spend their money if they find you interesting.

Kemar Lawrence started his professional career with Jamaican club Harbour View in 2011, where he played for three years before trying to secure a move to Major League Soccer.

After an unsuccessful trial with D.C. United, Lawrence was offered a contract by the New York Red Bulls in March 2015. He immediately became one of the team’s key players and helped the Red Bulls to win the MLS Supporters’ Shield in the same year. Since then he played a total of 93 games for the team and had scored three goals.

New York Red Bulls just added one of the most rated defenders in the MLS to their roster. The team announced that they have acquired center-back Tim Parker from the Vancouver Whitecaps. The Whitecaps received midfielder Felipe Martins, $500,000 in targeted allocation money and an international roster spot in exchange. Also, they will get a portion of the transfer fee if Parker makes a move outside the MLS.

Tim is the type of defender we look for,” – said Red Bulls coach Jesse Marsch in a statement. “His soccer knowledge, athleticism, and one-on-one defending ability are qualities that fit with what we ask of our center backs. I know he is glad to be coming home to New York, and we think he will thrive in our style of play.

Tim Parker requested a trade from the Whitecaps after failing to agree on a contract extension with the team over the winter. It will be now on the New York Bulls to get him $600,000 in guaranteed compensation, a figure the 25-year-old reportedly asked for. Tim Parker was one of the standout players for Whitecaps in the 2017 season, being ranked second in the league in headed clearances and fifth in aerials won. His good games also brought him a USMNT call-up for a friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

On the other hand, Vancouver Whitecaps received a good and reliable midfielder in Felipe Martins. Martins played in 100 regular season games for Red Bull in the past three years, managing to score 10 goals and hand out 17 assists.

Felipe has consistently proven to be one of the best box-to-box midfielders in Major League Soccer,” –said the Whitecaps coach Carl Robinson. “He’s fiercely competitive, very comfortable on the ball, and creative going forward. We firmly believe he’s someone that will make the players around him better and we’re delighted to add him to our group in the prime of his career.

The New York Red Bulls are moving on from their midfielder and USMNT member Sacha Kljestan. The team has sent Kljestan to Orlando City SC alongside $150,000 in targeted allocation money, getting forward Carlos Rivas and defender Tommy Redding in exchange.

It may be a strange decision for the Red Bulls to trade away their captain and league’s assist leader, but it looks like that was the best choice for both sides.

Listen, it was not an easy decision,” – said Red Bulls sporting director Denis Hamlet. “We assessed our roster both in terms of how we can improve our team and a situation that was advantageous for Sacha and looked and spoke to different teams and saw the ability to add two young players in Carlos Rivas and Tommy Redding who we know pretty well obviously from playing them over the last three years in the Eastern Conference.

On the other hand, Orlando City SC was very pleased to have got a man who had 20 assists in past MLS season.

“We are thrilled to bring Sacha to Orlando,” – said team’s general manager Niki Budalic. “His ability to see the field and make the final pass will be huge assets for us. But more than that — he’s a winner. He’s won everywhere he’s gone, and we look forward to that continuing here.

Sacha Kljestan started his professional soccer career with Chivas USA in 2006 and spent four years with the team before heading to Europe. In Europe, he signed with Belgium’s Anderlecht in 2010 and played 132 matches while scoring 18 goals. He returned to the United States in 2015 when he signed with the Red Bulls. Kljestan also represented the United States on a national level 52 times, scoring on six occasions.
