The New York Red Bulls completed the transfer for midfielder Emil Forsberg, the MLS side announced on Saturday.

The 32-year-old Swedish international midfielder will join NYRB from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig. Both clubs are part of Red Bull’s network of soccer clubs, which also includes Austria’s FC Red Bull Salzburg and Brazil’s Red Bull Bragantino and Red Bull Brasil.

According to the official announcement, Forsberg will join the New York Red Bulls on a three-year contract and will occupy the Designated Player spot. His contract also includes a club option for the 2027 season.

“We are very excited to add a player of Emil’s caliber to our club, the amount of experience he has in Europe will be a great addition to our roster,” said NYRB’s head of sport Jochen Schneider. “Emil is an amazing talent with a skillset that will particularly help develop young players, and we cannot wait to see him take the pitch at Red Bull Arena in 2024.”

Emil Forsberg has played for RB Leipzig since 2015 and was part of the teams that lifted the DFB-Pokal trophy in 2021–22 and 2022–23. Forsberg played 21 games in all competitions this season, scoring four times and adding one assist.
