Pro Bowl defensive end Chase Young finally has a new team after remaining longer than predicted on the free agent market. Reportedly, Young will play with the New Orleans Saints in 2024.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Young and the Saints are in agreement on a one-year, $13 million contract. The deal is fully guaranteed.

Young started his NFL career as a second-overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders. He had an impressive rookie year, delivering 7.5 sacks and one defensive touchdown en route to NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and Pro Bowl honors.

Young struggled in his sophomore year, getting only 1.5 sacks throughout the first nine games before suffering a season-ending ACL injury. He was limited to just three games in 2022 and had his fifth-year rookie option declined by Washington.

After a promising start in 2023, during which he had 5.0 sacks in seven games, the Commanders traded Young to the San Francisco 49ers for a third-round selection. Young proved to be a quality addition to the 49ers, making 2.5 sacks by the end of the regular season and adding another sack in Super Bowl LVIII loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The New Orleans Saints have reportedly reworked quarterback Derek Carr’s contract with the move, bringing them significant salary cap savings.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Saints converted a significant portion of Carr’s $30 million base salary for the upcoming season into a signing bonus. This will bring them around $23 million in salary cap relief.

Doing large contract restructures isn’t new for the Saints. It became a tradition for the team to be well over the cap ahead of the upcoming NFL season and rely on extensions and contract restructures to comply with salary cap rules. Aside from reworking Carr’s contract, the job became easier for the Saints thanks to the league increasing salary cap in 2024 by $30.6 million to a record $255.4 million per team.

Derek Carr signed a four-year, $150 million contract with the Saints last offseason. The four-time Pro Bowler had an up-and-down campaign in 2024 that saw him complete 68.4 percent of his passes and throw for 3,878 yards, 25 touchdowns, and eight picks.

The Saints finished the campaign with a 9-8 record, missing out on the NFC South title due to a tiebreaker. It marked the third straight year in which the franchise didn’t play in the postseason.

The New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave is expected to play in Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions, sources revealed early Sunday. Olave suffered a concussion during the Saints’ 24-15 loss to the Atlanta Falcons last weekend.

Officially listed as questionable, Olave had limited participation in the Saints’ team practices on Wednesday and Thursday before having full participation in Friday’s practice session.

The wide receiver went down injured in the third quarter of the Falcons clash, falling hard after leaping in an attempt to make a high catch on the Saints’ sideline. After it became apparent that the player couldn’t rise to his feet after his fall, the Saints’ trainers made their way onto the field to assist him. He was escorted to the medical tent for further evaluations and then the locker room; not returning for the remainder of the match.

Until leaving the field, Olave made seven catches for 114 yards against the Falcons. For the season to date, Olave is leading his team with three receiving touchdowns and has made 63 catches for 771 yards.

The New Orleans Saints had big hopes for the 2023 season after managing to sign four-time Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Carr in free agency. But throughout the first seven weeks Carr hasn’t galvanized the Saints’ offense in the way everyone expected.

Carr has thrown for solid 1,600 yards in seven games, but the Saints only managed to account for six passing touchdowns with him under center. According to head coach Dennis Allen, one of the reasons for this is that the veteran quarterback and the team’s wide receivers are still not on the “same page.”

“That is probably one of the things that I’m most frustrated about, is just that’s part of that inconsistency,” Allen said while speaking with reporters following a 24-31 loss to Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night. “Somehow, some way, we have to get those guys on the same page. There’s a lot that goes into that.”

Allen mentioned some examples from the Jags game, including a play on which Carr threw away the ball and was yelling at wideout Chris Olave afterward.

“Derek thought there was a good chance to get a one-on-one shot with him on the outside lanes … and Chris didn’t run that route the way it needs to be run,” Allen said about the play. “So that’s what happened. We ended up having a throwaway there.”

The Saints will now have a mini-bye to try and get their quarterback and wideouts on the same page. They play the Indianapolis Colts in Week 8.

The New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr doesn’t have a serious injury as initially believed and might return to action earlier than expected. This was confirmed by Saints’ head coach, Dennis Allen, in a chat with reporters on Monday.

Carr got hurt in the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers after taking a hard sack from pass rusher Rashan Gary. He was slow to get up and seemed in a lot of pain as he made his way off the field. The 32-year-old player ended up being ruled out for the remainder of the game.

According to Allen, tests showed that Carr suffered a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder. The veteran signal-caller is considered “week to week” but could still end up playing in Week 4 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“We’ll evaluate him as he goes throughout the week this week, we dodged a bullet there in terms of anything of real significance,” said Allen. “We’re saying week to week. But again, he felt better today than he did yesterday, so we’re not making any decisions today, we’re not ruling anything out.”

The Saints will be thrilled that Carr won’t miss much time, considering how good they looked with him on the field. Carr led the team to a 2-0 record and got them to a 17-0 lead against the Packers before exiting the game. New Orleans ended up suffering a 17-18 loss to Green Bay after failing to score a single point with backup Jameis Winston under the center.

The New Orleans Saints are looking towards the free agent market to fill out their rosters. According to Dianna Russini of ESPN, the Saints have brought in running back Kareem Hunt and linebacker Anthony Barr for workouts.

The Saints have become unexpectedly thin in the backfield after their star back Alvin Kamara received a three-game suspension and fourth-year player Eno Benjamin ruptured his Achilles. They are now left with veteran Jamaal Williams and 2023’s third-round selection Kendre Miller as the only viable options at the position.

Hunt would be a reliable option for the Saints, considering his track of success in the NFL. He rushed for 468 yards and three touchdowns last season with the Cleveland Browns, playing as the No. 2 option behind Nick Chubb. He was a Pro Bowler in his rookie year in 2017, leading the league with 1,327 rushing yards while with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Barr, on the other hand, would serve as a fallback option in case Demario Davis’ calf injury causes more serious issues. The 31-year-old player is a four-time Pro Bowler who is past his best but can still be a valuable backup option. He played 14 games with the Dallas Cowboys last season, managing 58 tackles and 1.0 sacks.

The New Orleans Saints rewarded its standout linebacker Demario Davis for his standout form in recent seasons. According to Field Yates of ESPN, the Saints added one more year to Davis’ contract while improving the overall terms of his deal.

Davis had two years left on the three-year, $27 million extensions he inked back in 2020. The new deal will add $2 million in incentives in each of the upcoming three seasons while also coming with a $10 million salary and $2 million roster bonus in 2024.

The deal provides stability for Davis as he prepares to turn 34 in January. On the other hand, the Saints keep one of their best defensive players happy, which should positively reflect on the locker room atmosphere.

Demario Davis spent his early NFL career with the New York Jets and the Cleveland Browns and was a solid starter by all means. However, he really took off as a player once he joined the Saints in 2018.

In his first season in New Orleans, Davis notched 5.0 sacks, 110 tackles, two forced fumbles, and 11 tackles for loss. He took his game to another level in 2019 when he earned First-Team All-Pro honors and went on to be selected in the Second-Team All-Pro in each of the following two years.

Davis, who played all but one games since becoming a pro, has 29.5 sacks, 1027 tackles, and 41 pass deflections so far in his NFL career.

The New Orleans Saints are optimistic that they will get their star wideout Michael Thomas back on the field in time for training camp. This was confirmed by the team’s new head coach Dennis Allen during a chat with reporters at the Saints’ voluntary organized team activities.

Thomas has been hampered by a series of ankle injuries in the past couple of years. He only played seven games in 2020 and then missed the entire 2021 after opting to undergo ankle surgery. The Saints initially expected Thomas back at some point last season, but several setbacks ended up keeping him off the field.

Speaking about Thomas on Friday, Allen said that the 29-year-old player is progressing well in rehab. The three-time Pro Bowler has been with the team despite not being able to participate in OTAs and is “working his tail off to get himself back.”

“If I had a crystal ball and could tell you all these things, I’d probably be making a lot more money and doing something different,” Allen said. “But, yeah, our hope is that he’s gonna be ready to go for training camp. So that’s what we’re pushing for.”

Before the injuries derailed his career, Michael Thomas was considered one of the best wide receivers in the league. After entering the NFL in 2016 as a second-round pick, Thomas delivered four consecutive seasons with 90+ receptions and 1,100+ receiving yards. In addition, he was named the NFL Offensive Player of the Year in 2019 after breaking the record for most receptions in a single season with 149.

After a surprisingly long wait on the free-agent market, Pro Bowl wideout Jarvis Landry has a new team. Landry broke the news himself on social media, hinting not so subtly that he signed with the New Orleans Saints.

The move will be a homecoming for Landry, considering he is a Louisiana native and has played college football at LSU. The 29-year-old player is arriving in New Orleans just a couple of weeks after the Saints also signed another LSU standout in safety Tyrann Mathieu.

Landry is coming to New Orleans after a challenging 2021 campaign with the Cleveland Browns. He only played 12 games due to injuries and recorded career-lows in catches (52), receiving yards (570), and touchdowns (2). The Browns ended up releasing him in March after he didn’t accept a contract restructure.

The down year in 2022 probably factored in Landry’s prolonged time on the market, but it isn’t the only reason why he remained unsigned for two months. He had a number of suitors from the get-go, but most teams were unwilling to meet his salary demands, believed to be in the range of $20 million annually. It is still unclear whether the Saints agreed to this number or managed to get a hometown discount.

Jarvis Landry was the second-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins. In his four seasons with the Dolphins and another four with the Browns, Landry managed to catch 699 passes for 7,598 yards and 37 touchdowns. He also made the Pro Bowl five times.

After failing to address the safety position in the 2022 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints decided to circle back to free agency for secondary additions. According to multiple reports, the Saints have managed to get a deal done with Pro Bowler Tyrann Mathieu.

The terms of the deal are yet to be ironed out, but Mathieu is expected to be officially introduced to the Saints’ fans by the end of the week. It will be a homecoming for the 29-year-old player, who was born and raised in New Orleans and played college ball for the nearby Louisiana State University (LSU).

The Saints have already hosted Mathieu for a visit back in April but didn’t pull the trigger on signing him. However, once it became clear they won’t be able to find a quality safety in the draft, New Orleans acted quickly to get the three-time Pro Bowler back in the building. Mathieu reportedly had other suitors, including the Philadelphia Eagles, but no other team proved to be as serious as the Saints the other time around.

The move means that New Orleans will have two new starting safeties when the 2022 NFL season kicks off. The team previously acquired veteran free safety Marcus Maye, who inked a three-year deal. The duo of Mathieu and Maye will step in for retired Malcolm Jenkins and Marcus Williams, who left in free agency to sing with the Baltimore Ravens.

Tyrann Mathieu started his NFL career as Arizona Cardinals’ third-round pick in 2013. He spent five years with the Cardinals and one year with the Houston Texans before signing with the Kansas City Chiefs ahead of the 2019 NFL season. Mathieu made two All-Pro teams with the Chiefs and won the Super Bowl LIV before leaving as a free agent in March.
