Pro Bowl defensive end Chase Young finally has a new team after remaining longer than predicted on the free agent market. Reportedly, Young will play with the New Orleans Saints in 2024.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Young and the Saints are in agreement on a one-year, $13 million contract. The deal is fully guaranteed.
Young started his NFL career as a second-overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders. He had an impressive rookie year, delivering 7.5 sacks and one defensive touchdown en route to NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and Pro Bowl honors.
Young struggled in his sophomore year, getting only 1.5 sacks throughout the first nine games before suffering a season-ending ACL injury. He was limited to just three games in 2022 and had his fifth-year rookie option declined by Washington.
After a promising start in 2023, during which he had 5.0 sacks in seven games, the Commanders traded Young to the San Francisco 49ers for a third-round selection. Young proved to be a quality addition to the 49ers, making 2.5 sacks by the end of the regular season and adding another sack in Super Bowl LVIII loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
