Liverpool is interested in signing French star forward Kylian Mbappe, according to reports from English media. The Premier League side is so keen on the move that they would reportedly be willing to move on from their talisman Mohamed Salah in order to make it happen.

Mbappe is set to become a free agent in the summer, meaning that Liverpool wouldn’t have to pay a transfer fee for him. However, the 24-year-old player would likely demand a contract that makes him the highest-paid player at the club and perhaps the league.

According to TEAMtalk, in order to be able to afford Mbappe’s wages, the Reds wouldn’t mind parting ways with Salah. The Egypt international currently earns £350,000 per week, being the club’s highest earner by far.

Salah attracted interest from the Saudi Pro League this past summer, with one club sending a £150 million offer for the 31-year-old player. Liverpool rejected the proposal at the time but might be tempted to think about it if Mbappe proves to be a viable target.

Mbappe was linked with a move to La Liga’s powerhouse Real Madrid for a while now, but recent reports from Spain indicate that the Spanish club isn’t interested in the player anymore. Reportedly, Real wants to move away from its strategy of overspending and would rather focus on younger and more affordable additions.

Egyptian star forward Mohamed Salah ended the speculation about his future on Friday by signing a new contract with Liverpool. Salah inked a three-year deal that will keep him in England until the summer of 2025.

Salah, who was set to become a free agent after this upcoming season, will reportedly be Liverpool’s highest-paid player with a £350K weekly salary.

“I feel great and [am] excited to win trophies with the club. It’s a happy day for everyone,” said Salah after signing the deal. “It takes a little bit of time, I think, to renew, but now everything is done, so we just need to focus on what’s next.”

Liverpool entered the offseason with two of their biggest stars, Salah and Sadio Mane, having just one year left on their respective contracts. Mane decided to bolt for Bayern Munich earlier this month, and many believed the same would happen with Salah. Luckily for the Reds, Salah was more eager to stay than to leave, and the two sides managed to get a deal done.

“It is just great news. It makes me smile thinking about it,” said Liverpool’s manager Jurgen Klopp. “He stays with us for longer, and it means we can achieve more together.”

Mohamed Salah has been with Liverpool for the past five seasons. During that time, he made 254 appearances and scored 165 goals with 63 assists in all competitions. Salah also helped the club win a number of trophies, including the UEFA Champions League in 2018-19 and the Premier League in 2019-20.

Liverpool’s star forward Mohamed Salah will remain at Anfield for at least one more year. Salah confirmed this on Wednesday during a press conference ahead of the UEFA Champions League Finals.

Salah will have one more year left on his contract after 2021-22 officially wraps up. Liverpool has been trying to tie the 29-year-old Egyptian to an extension for a while now, but the two sides are yet to come to terms. This prompted rumors about the player’s potential exit this summer as a way for the Premier League clubs to avoid losing him for free.

Speaking with reporters, Salah said that he doesn’t want to discuss his contract as he believes that would take focus from the task at hand, which is the UCL clash against Real Madrid. However, he also clarified that he has no intention of leaving.

“I am just focused on the team and don’t want to talk about my contract,” said Salah. “But I am staying next season for sure, that’s for sure.”

“In my mind, I don’t focus about the contract at the moment,” he added. “I don’t want to be selfish. I said two months ago, it’s all about the team now.”

Mohamed Salah has arguably been Liverpool’s best player ever since he joined the club from Roma in 2017. Salah helped the Reds win Premier League and UCL, among other trophies, while scoring 156 goals in 253 matches. This alone should motivate Liverpool to get the deal done as soon as possible.

However, if Liverpool doesn’t pull the trigger, Salah shouldn’t have issues finding a new club that will give him the terms he is asking for. The list of his suitors reportedly includes Real and Paris Saint-Germain.

Liverpool’s star forward Mohamed Salah wouldn’t mind if he spent the remainder of his professional carrier at Anfield. But he also knows that this isn’t just his decision to make.

Salah and Liverpool have been engaged in contract negotiations for a while but have yet to find some common ground.

“If you ask me, I would love to stay until the last day of my football career. But I can’t say much about that, it’s not in my hands,” Salah said in a recent chat with Sky Sports.

Salah, who has two years left on his deal, explained that it would make him “sad” if he ever had to play against Liverpool.

“It’s hard, I don’t want to talk about it, but it would make me really sad… but let’s see what will happen in the future,” he added.

In case that Salah and Liverpool can’t agree, several clubs are waiting to make a run for the 29-year-old Egyptian. One of them is Real Madrid, who would be reportedly interested in sending Eden Hazard alongside an additional fee to Liverpool for Salah.

Salah has played 214 games and scored 137 goals with 51 assists since arriving in Liverpool from AS Roma in 2017. He helped the club win multiple trophies during that time, including the Premier League title and UEFA Champions League trophy.

Following their UEFA Champions League win, Liverpool faced a harsh reality of their top two players Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane being courted by Europe’s richest clubs. But it seems like the team and the fans have nothing to worry about, as Salah and Mane have reportedly decided to reject big contract offers from other clubs in favor of staying in the Premier League.

According to The Daily Mirror‘s John Richardson, Salah and Mane had a talk with Liverpool executives in the past few days, and informed them that they have passed on tempting offers from “leading continental clubs.” The duo intends to stick around for at least one more year and try to help the club win Premier League trophy.

Mohamed Salah was particularly interesting to a number of clubs, with Real Madrid and Juventus preparing offers in the range of $200 million for his services. Still, when these clubs approached Salah for contract negotiations prior to sending the offer, the 27-year-old Egyptian forward turned them down.

Although he wasn’t as spectacular as in 2017/18, Salah still managed to deliver a great season and provide 22 goals and eight assists in the national competition. He also added five goals in Champions League.

Sadio Mane was also on Real Madrid’s radar. The La Liga giants tried to lure him to Spain last summer, but Mane opted to stay in England, and it looks like he will do the same in 2019 as well.

Mane scored 26 goals in all competition this past season.
