All-Star shortstop Tim Anderson remains a free agent, but it’s not because of lack of offers. It’s probably because those offers are not particularly enticing.

MLB Network’s Jon Morosi recently reported that the Miami Marlins stepped in with an offer for Anderson and are willing to make him their primary shortstop.

USA Today’s MLB Insider Bob Nightengale later discussed Anderson’s free agency during an appearance on the Foul Territory podcast and offered some insights as to why the veteran is yet to entertain Marlin’s offer. According to Nightengale, Miami is only willing to offer Anderson a base salary of $2 million.

“I think Tim Anderson’s contract offer from the Marlins is about $2 million. He was making about $14-$15 million with the White Sox, so I’m sure he wants closer to $10 million,” Nightengale noted.

Tim Anderson was an All-Star with the Chicago White Sox in 2021 and 2022 but ended up enduring a rough 2023 season. After missing time with a left knee injury early in the campaign, Anderson struggled to replicate his prior form. He finished the season with a batting average of .245 while hitting only one home run and equaling his career-lowest 25 RBIs. This prompted the White Sox to decline their $14 million option on his contract and send him to free agency.

Despite a debut 2020 season in Atlanta which saw him come close to winning the National League Triple Crown, ESPN’s Buster Olney reports that outfielder/DH Marcell Ozuna is looking likely to sign elsewhere in free agency.

Olney says that there is very little chance that the burly outfielder, who hit .338 with 18 home runs and 56 RBIs in a monster season for the Braves, will re-ink with his 2020 team thanks to their organizational wariness to sign veteran players to long-term deals, which he is seeking.

Ozuna is dealing with the handicap of teams not knowing whether the designated hitter will be used in both leagues next season. If it is, NL teams would be more likely to give a long-term deal to the Dominican slugger, whose defense has gone downhill in recent seasons.

The White Sox, Blue Jays, Mets, and Giants have been some of the teams that are reportedly interesting in adding Ozuna this offseason, who is reportedly looking for at least a four-year contract.

It remains to be seen, however, whether or not a team will be willing to offer him that sort of deal based on diminished revenues following a COVID-19-affected 2020 campaign.

Spring Training gets underway next month, and it appears that Ozuna will not be with the Braves when that time comes despite his success with the team last season.

One of Korea’s top baseball stars has revealed in an interview with ESPN that he would consider a move to Major League Baseball if the opportunity presents itself.

Sung-bum Na, an outfielder for the NC Dinos of the Korean Baseball Organization, has caught the eyes of many spectators around the globe this spring as the league has been widely televised in the absence of MLB action.

The lefty hitter, who missed the entire 2019 season due to an ACL injury, has established himself as one of the top offensive players in the league since his debut in 2012.

A six-time All-Star selection and a two-time Gold Glove Award winner, Na has compiled a .316 batting average, 145 home runs, and 90 stolen bases since he entered the league.

Na stated, “I’m always going to work as hard as I can on the field to fulfill my dreams. And watching MLB on TV made me have bigger dreams.”

He went on to describe himself as a five-tool player that could have an impact on all facets of the game if a team signs him. He will be eligible for posting for a move to the United States following the 2020 season.

Major League Baseball continues to debate possible plans for going through with a 2020 season that has been delayed and impacted severely by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

According to reports, the league is now considering a plan that would divide the league’s teams between Florida, Texas, and Arizona in a three-state plan that would take advantage of existing Major League, spring training, and Minor League stadiums.

Other plans that have been discussed have included sending all teams to Arizona and dividing the teams between Florida and Arizona to take advantage of their large number of baseball stadiums. Due to the logistical problems that this would present, however, it now appears that they have added Texas to their potential plans.

While the state of Texas does not have any spring training facilities or stadiums, it does have two Major League stadiums belonging to the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros with retractable roofs. In addition, the state has seven Minor League stadiums, all in classes AA and AAA which could also work for hosting games.

The assumption is that the league would send ten teams to each locale and play multiple games per day behind closed doors.

Major League Baseball is expected to announce their plans for the coming season in the next few weeks.

The MLB free agency just started, but Chicago White Sox didn’t waste time making a big splash. The team announced on Thursday that they have landed All-Star catcher Yasmani Grandal on a four-year deal.

According to the team’s statement, Grandal will receive $18.25 million per season with the contract’s overall value being $73 million.

The 31-year-old was the top-ranked free agent catcher in the free agency, after having an All-Star campaign with Milwaukee Brewers in which he hit 28 home runs and had 77 RBIs.

“He’s such a quality guy,” – said White Sox president Ken Williams. “And for him to understand our messaging, our goals, our path, and to say, ‘I want to be a part of that and I’m going to commit to it early so we can move on to the next thing heading into the Winter Meetings,’ just shows what kind of character we’re talking about.”

Yasmani Grandal was a free agent in 2018 as well when he reportedly decided to reject a four-year, $60 million offer from the New York Mets. He ended up signing a one year deal with the Brewers that was worth $18.25 million.

Grandal, who had his MLB debut in 2012, previously played with San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers. His career stats include .241 batting average, 141 homers, and 416 RBIs.

“My family and I are very excited and honored to be a part of the Chicago White Sox organization,” – said Grandal after inking a deal with the White Sox. “I loved their professionalism, preparation and vision towards the future. I want to thank them for allowing me to be a part of this process moving forward.”

After a disappointing NLDS playoff exit in which the Braves’ starting pitching woes were exposed, it appears that the 2018 and 2019 NL East Champions will look to improve their starting rotation in the free-agent market this offseason.

According to media reports, Atlanta is reportedly targeting former San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner as they head into the baseball offseason.

Bumgarner, the four-time All Star and 2014 World Series MVP, finds himself testing the free-agent waters for the first time in his career at the age of 30. The North Carolina native has long been rumored to be going to Atlanta, the team in closest proximity to his home.

The big lefty has long been considered one of baseball’s top starting pitchers, establishing himself as a top of the rotation arm since his MLB debut in 2009.

His numbers in the regular season are good, as he has compiled a 119-92 record with a career 3.13 ERA. His postseason numbers, however, are out of this world, with a career 2.11 ERA in 102.1 innings pitched.

The Braves are looking for an established, top-of-the-line starter to pair with young talents such as Mike Soroka and Max Fried, and it appears that they will land Bumgarner if their wishes come true.

The Detroit Tigers, mired in the last place in the AL Central with a lousy 28-58 record, are expected to become one of the “sellers” at this year’s MLB trade deadline.

Starting pitching Matthew Boyd, the team’s ace appears to be one of the players that are going to attract the most interest from other teams as July 31st approaches.

Boyd has been one of the top strikeout artists in the league this season, ranking fourth among qualified starters with a 32.0% strikeout rate. It’s been a breakout season for the 29-year-old lefty, who has ridden an improved slider/cutter combination to the highest punchout totals of his career.

While the former Oregon State Beaver has still been hampered somewhat by giving up his fair share of home runs, his 2019 ERA of 3.87 is easily the best of his career. Boyd has been the lone shining light in one of the worst pitching staffs in baseball.

With three years of team control left on his contract, the price for Boyd is expected to be substantial. Playoff contenders that are looking to upgrade their starting rotation will undoubtedly look to Boyd as one of their options as the end of the season gets closer.

Teams that have reportedly expressed interest in Boyd include the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Tampa Bay Rays.
