Quarterback Mitch Trubisky has agreed to a deal that will see him reunite with the Buffalo Bills. Trubisky will serve as a backup to star signal-caller Josh Allen.

Trubisky became a free agent after being released by the Pittsburgh Steelers last month. According to reports, he inked a two-year contract with the Bills that is worth $5.25 million.

Trubisky spent the 2021 season with the Bills, attempting eight passes and accounting for one rushing touchdown. He then signed a deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers, starting the first four games of the 2022 campaign before being benched in favor of rookie Kenny Pickett. Trubisky received two starts in the 2023 season after Pickett went down with a shoulder injury in Week 13 before losing the job once again to third-stringer Mason Rudolph.

Despite his struggles in recent seasons, Trubisky should be a good pickup for the Bills. He knows the system and comes on a relatively cheap deal. Buffalo needed another QB since last season’s backup, Kyle Allen, is set to become a free agent.

Mitch Trubisky spent the first four years of his career with the Chicago Bears, who selected him second overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. He has a 31-26 record as a starter in the NFL and has thrown for 1,2536 yards, 72 touchdowns, and 48 interceptions. Trubisky has one Pro Bowl nod to his name.

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced a series of roster moves on Monday that saw them release three players, including quarterback Mitch Trubisky.

Besides Trubisky, the Steelers have moved on from offensive tackle Chukwuma Okorafor and punter Pressley Harvin. The moves give Pittsburgh some salary cap flexibility, saving them close to $13 million.

Trubisky, who was the second overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, joined the Steelers in 2022. He was named Week 1 starter but ended up being benched after four games in favor of rookie Kenny Pickett. Despite his demotion, the Steelers viewed Trubisky as a valuable backup and ended up signing him to a two-year extension ahead of the 2023 campaign.

Trubisky ended up playing five games, including two starts, after Pickett suffered a shoulder surgery but performed poorly. He completed 62.6 percent of his passes while throwing for 632 yards, four touchdowns, and five interceptions.

While moving on from Trubisky gives the Steelers some wiggle room under the cap, it also leaves their quarterback room quite empty. With veteran Mason Rudolph set to hit free agency, the Steelers are left with Pickett as their only quarterback on the roster.

Okorafor was Pittsburgh’s third-round pick in 2018. He played 77 games with the franchise since, including 59 starts.

Harvin served as the Steelers’ primary punter since entering the league in 2021. He averaged 43.7 yards per punt in 47 games, with 34.6% of his punts being placed inside the opponents’ 20-yard line.

The Pittsburgh Steelers made a quarterback change last week, going from starter Mitch Trubisky to rookie Kenny Pickett, looking for a “spark” in the second half of the Week 4 game against the New York Jets. And while this wasn’t enough for the Steelers to get the win, the coaching staff saw enough to make the change permanent.

The Steelers’ head coach Mike Tomin announced earlier this week that Pickett would be their new starting quarterback moving forward. The Pitt product will get his first career start on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.

Explaining his decision, Tomlin said that the move isn’t solely based on Trubisky’s performance but that he believes the team will have a better chance to win with Pickett.

“in an effort to be better, in an effort to score more points, in an effort to move the ball more fluidly, we decided to go to Kenny in the hope that he would provide a spark for us,” said Tomlin. “ … not only in terms of our ability to move the ball, but just in terms of energy.”

“And so, hopefully, that’s a catalyst for us as we try to move forward and change the outcome of some of these games,” he added.

Mitch Trubisky, who came to Pittsburgh as a free agent this offseason, struggled during his run as the Steelers’ starter. He completed only 59.5 percent of his passes while throwing for just 653 yards and two touchdowns. Trubisky also threw two interceptions.

Stepping in for Trubisky versus the Jets, Pickett threw for 120 yards in two quarters while having two rushing touchdowns. However, he also threw three interceptions, including one in the last drive of the game.

Chicago Bears’ disappointing season continued in Week 11 when they suffered a 17-7 loss to Los Angeles Rams. The talk after the game, however, wasn’t the loss itself, but the fact that their starting quarterback Mitch Trubisky was benched in the fourth quarter despite Bears still having a chance to get back.

Considering Trubisky’s bad performance against Rams, and overall in 2019, most of the analysts thought that coach Matt Nagy decided to insert backup Chase Daniel for a comeback attempt. The move didn’t help, as Daniel completed just one pass during his time on the field.

Now Bears decided to address the rumors of Trubisky’s benching with Nagy saying on Monday that the 25-year-old signal-caller left the game due to a hip injury.

According to Nagy, Trubisky’s injury got worse as the game went on and he was in such pain at one point that he couldn’t sit on the bench.

“What ended up happening over time with him was it became stiff and tighter and tighter,” – Nagy explained. “We ended up keeping an eye on it and noticing that we wanted to be careful of it affecting his play. … I knew he had a hip deal but it wasn’t significant to not play. But over time the stiffness got to a point to where he really wasn’t even able to sit on the bench. That’s when I became aware of it and we kept an eye on him for a series and a half.”

Mitch Trubisky is now expected to sit out in the Week 12 game against the New York Giants nursing the hip injury. Bears, however, might not be a lot worse without him as Trubisky’s numbers rank among the worst in the league.

Trubisky threw for only 1,580 yards and nine touchdowns this season, while also adding four interceptions.
