New England Patriots are finalizing a trade for Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive end Michael Bennett according to several NFL sources close to the situation. Patriots will get Bennett and a 2020 seventh-round pick from Eagles, while sending a fifth-rounder in 2020 in exchange.

Eagles were trying to move Bennett for some time now, since the 33-year-old publicly stated that he would like to get a pay more. Since Philly gave DE Brandon Graham a three-year, $40 million contract extension last week, they didn’t have money to throw around and decided that trade might be the best option.

“I think we’re in a tough situation as far as the salary cap and I’m not willing to take a pay cut,” – said Bennett during his recent appearance on NFL Network. “I actually want a pay raise at this point. So whatever happens, just to know whatever team I go to I want to get paid more than what I’m getting paid right now.”

Reportedly, Eagles were willing to release Bennett, who had recorded 34 tackles and nine sacks in 2018, if they were not able to find a trade partner, hence the low asking price.

Besides Philadelphia, Michael Bennett previously played also for Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Seattle Seahawks. Besides winning Super Bowl XLVIII with Seahawks, he also has three Pro Bowl appearances. Bennett’s career stats include 327 tackles, 63.0 sacks, 10 forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and one defensive touchdown.

It looks like the Seattle Seahawks have found a trade partner for their defensive end Michael Bennett. The Seahawks were shopping Bennett around the league in the last couple of weeks, and according to ESPN‘s sources, they have traded the 32-year-old to the Super Bowl LII champions Philadelphia Eagles. Besides Bennett, the Eagles will also receive a seventh-round pick while sending a fifth-round pick and wide receiver Marcus Johnson in the opposite direction. The deal will be finalized on March 14, when the 2018 NFL season officially begins.

Michael Bennett has three years left on his deal, and trading him will save the Seahawks $5.2 million in 2018. The Eagles, on the other hand, will be $10 million over the salary cap and will have to trade several players in order to get under the cap until March 14. According to reports, the closest one to exit is defensive end Vinny Curry who will count $11 million against the team’s cap in this year. The Eagles were trying to reconstruct his deal, but with Bennett’s arrival, they will probably try and trade him.

After playing college football at Texas A&M, Michael Bennett signed as an undrafted agent in 2009 with the Seattle Seahawks in April 2009. He was waived by the Seahawks in October of the same year and signed with Tampa Bay Buccaneers where he played until 2012 before returning to Seattle for a second stint. He became a Super Bowl champion with the team in 2013 and was picked in Pro-Bowl three years straight, from 2015 to 2017. In 2017 season he recorded 40 tackles and 8.5 sacks, becoming one of 12 players who managed to have five or more sacks in last six seasons.

This might not be the only trade Seattle Seahawks will make before the start of the next season, since Richard Sherman, Cliff Avril, and Kam Chancellor are all reportedly available for trades.

On Thursday, NFL said that the league has no intentions of investigating Michael Bennett of the Seattle Seahawks following his accusations that Las Vegas Police held him at gun point and used excessive force. The request for an investigation came from Las Vegas Police Protective Association, who sent a letter to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell requesting the league to investigate Bennett’s “obviously false allegations”. The letter is available in full on the Twitter profile of Vanessa Murphy of 8 News.

Speaking for Pro Football Talk NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said that “There is no allegation of a violation of the league’s personal conduct policy, and therefore there is no basis for an NFL investigation.

Michael Bennett posted a story on his Twitter profile on Wednesdays, describing the events that happened to him after he attended Mayweather vs. McGregor fight. After hearing something that sounded like “gunshots”, Bennett started running to safety. He then said that Las Vegas police officers singled him out and “pointed their guns at me for doing nothing more than simply being a black man in the wrong place at the wrong time.” Bennett also added that officer threatened to “blow my f****g head off” and jammed a knee into his back. After the incident, Bennett said that civil rights attorney John Burris will “investigate and explore legal options in his behalf.”

TMZ obtained a video of the incident, which shows Bennett being handcuffed by a police officer. You can check out the video below.

Following Bennett’s accusations, Las Vegas police issued a statement saying that the officers didn’t do anything wrong and that race didn’t’ play any role in this incident. They opened an internal investigation in order to determinate what exactly happened. Undersheriff Kevin McMahill also revealed that the arresting officer didn’t have his body cam activated and that this will also be a subject of investigation.

On September 6th, defensive end Michael Bennett of the Seattle Seahawks accused Las Vegas police of pointing a gun at his head and using excessive force. The incident happened after Bennett attended the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. Following Bennett’s claims, Las Vegas police issued an official statement. The statement isn’t available on the LVMPD’s official site anymore, but SB Nation published the description of the event told by Undersheriff Kevin McMahill.

With very little information as to who the shooter was or that shooter’s location, our officers pushed past the fleeing crowds and began immediately converging on the reported threat. One of the teams that cleared the casino then exited the casino at the door to regroup and were redirected back toward the Drai’s Nightclub inside of the casino. As they moved toward the nightclub, an individual later identified as Bennett was seen crouched down behind a gaming machine as the officers approached. Once Bennett was in the officer’s view he quickly ran out of the south doors, jumped over a wall onto Flamingo Road, east of Las Vegas Boulevard, into traffic. Due to Bennett’s actions and the information officers had at the time, they believed Bennett may have been involved in the shooting and they gave chase. Bennett was placed in handcuffs and detained while officers determined whether or not he was involved in the original incident.

McMahill also said that the arresting officer didn’t have his body camera activated and that the police department opened an internal investigation. Although Bennett claimed the incident was racially motivated, McMahill denied it and said: “I see no evidence that race played any role in this incident.

Las Vegas Police Department sent a letter to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, asking him to open an investigation following Bennett’s “obviously false allegations“. The full letter was posted by Vanessa Murphy of 8 News on her Twitter profile.
