On Thursday, NFL said that the league has no intentions of investigating Michael Bennett of the Seattle Seahawks following his accusations that Las Vegas Police held him at gun point and used excessive force. The request for an investigation came from Las Vegas Police Protective Association, who sent a letter to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell requesting the league to investigate Bennett’s “obviously false allegations”. The letter is available in full on the Twitter profile of Vanessa Murphy of 8 News.

Speaking for Pro Football Talk NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said that “There is no allegation of a violation of the league’s personal conduct policy, and therefore there is no basis for an NFL investigation.

Michael Bennett posted a story on his Twitter profile on Wednesdays, describing the events that happened to him after he attended Mayweather vs. McGregor fight. After hearing something that sounded like “gunshots”, Bennett started running to safety. He then said that Las Vegas police officers singled him out and “pointed their guns at me for doing nothing more than simply being a black man in the wrong place at the wrong time.” Bennett also added that officer threatened to “blow my f****g head off” and jammed a knee into his back. After the incident, Bennett said that civil rights attorney John Burris will “investigate and explore legal options in his behalf.”

TMZ obtained a video of the incident, which shows Bennett being handcuffed by a police officer. You can check out the video below.

Following Bennett’s accusations, Las Vegas police issued a statement saying that the officers didn’t do anything wrong and that race didn’t’ play any role in this incident. They opened an internal investigation in order to determinate what exactly happened. Undersheriff Kevin McMahill also revealed that the arresting officer didn’t have his body cam activated and that this will also be a subject of investigation.
