The Miami Dolphins are eager to bring even more firepower to their already potent offense. According to Dolphins’ head coach Mike McDaniels, the Dolphins have recently made an offer to veteran wideout Odell Beckham Jr.

Beckham reportedly visited the Dolphins last week but the two sides were unable to come to an agreement right away. He also attracted interest from several other teams including the Carolina Panthers and the New York Jets.

“We did make him an offer and business takes time, especially with players such as Odell, who’s had a phenomenal career, still has really good football in front of him and has options,” McDaniel said via Miami Herald. “So, I think those conversations will be ongoing. We’ll see where they go.”

The Dolphins have Pro Bowler Tyreek Hill and 2021’s first-round pick Jaylen Waddle as their top two receivers. They lost their No.3 wideout Cedrick Wilson Jr. in free agency, and it is believed that the organization is pursuing Beckham with this role in mind.

Once considered one of the best wide receivers in the game, Odell Beckham Jr’s production dipped in recent years due to injuries. Since 2019, the last season in which he reached the 1,000 receiving yards mark, Beckham played only 35 games and was forced to miss the entire 2022 campaign due to an ACL injury.

Beckham spent 2023 with the Baltimore Ravens, making 35 catches for 565 yards and three touchdowns.

The Miami Dolphins shored up their injury-riddled defense on Tuesday by adding a pair of veteran linebackers. The team dipped into the free-agent market by signing Justin Houston and Bruce Irvin.

The Dolphins had their linebacker core decimated by injuries in the final stretch of the 2023 regular season, with Pro Bowler Bradley Chubb, standout third-year player Jaelan Phillips, and veteran Andrew Van Ginkel all being ruled out for the remainder of the season.

In addition to Houston and Irvin, the Dolphins also added linebacker Malik Reed to their practice squad.

Houston is a four-time Pro Bowler who spent the majority of his pro career with the Kansas City Chiefs while also suiting up for the Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Ravens, among other teams. He has 112.0 sacks, 185 QB hits, 515 tackles, 35 pass deflections, 19 forced fumbles, and five interceptions throughout his career.

Houston spent the early part of 2023 with the Carolina Panthers, starting in seven games but failing to make a significant impact. He requested to be released in December so he could have a shot at playing with a contender.

Irvin has been a journeyman throughout most of his career, playing for a new team each season since 2018. He has 56.5 career sacks to go with 344 tackles, 131 QB hits, 13 pass deflections, and 16 forced fumbles. The 36-year-old player spent some time with the Detroit Lions practice squad this season and played 42 snaps across two regular-season games.

The Miami Dolphins are playing the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Wild Card Round on Saturday. The Dolphins are looking for their first playoff win since 2000.

Sunday’s 56-19 loss to the Baltimore Ravens didn’t only cost the Miami Dolphins a shot at the No. 1 seed in the AFC. It also cost them their star pass rusher Bradley Chubb.

According to ESPN’s NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Chubb suffered a torn ACL and won’t play again this season. The injury, which appears to be non-contact, happened with less than four minutes left in the fourth quarter. 

Chubb’s injury looks even worse, considering that the Dolphins already trailed by 30 at that point. When discussing his decision to keep the starters on the field in a game that was already lost, Dolphins’ head coach Mike McDaniel said he would wish he had done things differently.

“The players wanted to go back in and play and finish the right way heading into next week. And I have the ability to tell them no on everything in this situation. There’s plenty of decisions that I’ll cross examine,” said McDaniel.

Bradley Chubb’s injury will be a significant blow for the Dolphins defense moving forward. Chubb has been exceptional in 2023, getting 11.0 sacks while adding a career-high 74 tackles, 22 QB hits, and six forced fumbles. The Miami Dolphins are hopeful that Tyreek Hill will be fit to play against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, a source revealed to ESPN. Listed as questionable due to harboring an ankle injury, the wide receiver participated in his team’s practice sessions on Thursday and Friday in a limited capacity. Still, the team will wait to see how he feels on Sunday ahead of the game before making a final decision.

Hill suffered his injury during the Dolphins’ narrow 27-28 loss to the Tennessee Titans during Week 14. As a result, he was absent from the Dolphins’ Week 15 win over the New York Jets, however, the team remained strong even without Hill in their ranks, achieving a blowout 30-0 victory.

The Miami Dolphins might turn to a familiar face as they look to improve roster depth for what they hope will be a long playoff run. According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Dolphins recently hosted veteran defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh for a visit.

While a deal isn’t imminent, there is reportedly interest from both sides for a reunion. Suh previously played for the Dolphins between 2015 and 2017. 

Suh previously talked about his wish to resume his NFL career but said he is willing to be patient until the right opportunity presents itself. It hardly gets better than Miami, which is one of the hottest teams in the league right now and a Super Bowl contender.

The 36-year-old followed a similar script in 2022 when he sat out the first half of the season before signing with the Philadelphia Eagles. Suh ended up playing eight games with the Eagles and was part of the team that reached Super Bowl LVII.

The Tennesse Titans delivered a memorable upset in their Monday Night Football clash against the Miami Dolphins by overcoming a 14-point deficit in the final five minutes to get a 27-28 win. 

After the Dolphins scored a touchdown to make it 13-27, the Titans received the ball at their own 25-yard line with 4:34 left on the game clock. Tennesse orchestrated a 75-yard drive to score a touchdown and converted a two-point play to make it 21-27 in less than two minutes.

The Dolphins went three-and-out on their ensuing possession, giving the Titans a chance for a game-winning drive. Led by rookie quarterback Will Levis, Tennesse’s offense quickly marched down the field to Miami’s three-yard line, after which star running back Derrick Henry got the ball into the end zone to give his team a one-point lead.

Miami still had just under two minutes to try and get to field-goal range but failed to convert a fourth down after the Titans defense sacked quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.  

Levis was the star of the show, throwing for 327 yards and one touchdown. Wideout DeAndre Hopkins had seven catches for 124 yards and a TD, while Henry added two touchdowns on the ground.

“I was just sticking to the game plan,” Levis said after the game. “Throwing to the open guy, trusting that I didn’t necessarily need to be forcing anything. That happy medium of pushing it down the field but throwing to the open guy.”

The Titans improved to a 5-8 record after the win and kept slim chances to make the playoffs. The Dolphins, on the other hand, fell to 9-4 and lost momentum in the chase for the No. 1 seed in the AFC.

The Dolphins just showed their appreciation for the position by handing their starting right tackle Austin Jackson a new deal. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Jackson inked a three-year extension with the franchise.

Jackson’s new deal, which kicks in after the 2023 season, is worth $36 million and can reach up to $39 million based on incentives. It also comes with $20.7 million in guaranteed money.

The Dolphins selected Austin Jackson with the 18th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. He was initially slotted as left tackle and left guard in his first two years with the franchise but switched to right tackle for the 2022 season. Jackson showed promise in his new position, but injuries limited him to just two games and prompted Miami to decline the fifth-year option on his rookie deal.

Finally healthy and more accustomed to his new position, Jackson has been phenomenal this season. He allowed just two sacks in 771 snaps played while being a part of the offensive line that ranks in the top five in terms of allowing the fewest sacks. The Miami Dolphins are adding depth to their defense following linebacker Jaelan Phillips’ season-ending injury. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Dolphins agreed to a deal with veteran pass rusher Jason Pierre-Paul.

Pierre-Paul will join the Dolphins after recently spending time on the New Orleans Saints practice squad. The three-time Pro Bowler played in one game this season, recording two tackles in a 15-24 loss to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 12.

While the Dolphins haven’t yet announced the move, Pierre-Paul himself confirmed the news on his social media. He thanked the Saints’ organization and said he was “coming home.” The 34-year-old player is a Deerfield Beach, Florida, native and played college football with South Florida.

“It’s his Achilles — doesn’t look great, but we’ll find out more tomorrow,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said in his latest update on Phillips. “Yeah, I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but not fired up about it.”

Phillips went down during the fourth quarter with a non-contact lower leg injury. The television replay indicated that his left calf was firing, which is a telling sign of a ruptured Achilles tendon. Unable to rise, Phillips was carted off the field in an emotional state.

Phillips took to X to spread a message of hope to his fans in the face of his injury. Should Phillips be unavailable for an extended period, Andrew van Ginkel and defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah would be expected to play a bigger role in the team going forward.
