Italian soccer star Mario Balotelli has finally joined a new team, inking a seven-month contract with Serie B’s AC Monza as he looks to get his career back on track in Italy’s second division.

Balotelli, once one of the biggest names and best strikers in the world, has had a career defined by bizarre behavior and acts of indiscipline despite his success on the field.

Those quirks have seen him go from featuring for some of Europe’s best teams like Inter Milan and Manchester City to spending the past four seasons toiling in relative obscurity with Nice, Marseille, and last season, Brescia.

After Brescia was demoted last year from Serie A despite their star striker’s 5 goals in 19 matches, Balotelli became a free agent.

He had not decided to join a new club until now and will join forces with former AC Milan teammate Kevin-Prince Boateng on an Italian side with Serie A aspirations.

Monza, owned by media tycoon and former Italian president Silvio Berlusconi, is in a unique position to add high-paid players due to their owner’s vast wealth, and will look to the former Italy national team star to help propel them towards their goal this season.

Balotelli is expected to join Monza in training this week and should debut by the end of the calendar year.

The memory of Mario Balotelli as one of the most talented strikers in the world is still fresh in many people’s minds. But the career of the troubled Italian has been on a downwards trajectory for some time now and Balotelli has been struggling to find a club that wants him since being release by Brescia this past summer.

Still, there appears to be a chance for Balotelli to return to the field, even if it may not be in the place he imagined.

According to multiple reports from Europe, English Championship side Barnsley has taken interest in Balotelli lately. The club has been struggling to find its form to start the new season, despite entering 2020/21 with big ambition and believe the 30-year-old player could boost their attack despite all the baggage that follows him.

Mario Balotelli last played in native Italy, where he played with his hometown club Brescia. Balotelli signed a multi-year deal in the summer of 2019, but the marriage didn’t last long.

After Brescia returned to training following the break caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Balotelli decided not to show up for multiple practices. This led him to have several verbal altercations with the club’s brass, which decided to release him after.

Balotelli scored five goals in the 19 times he suited up for Brescia. He played for eight different prior, including Inter Milan, Manchester City, and Liverpool.

Italian striker Mario Balotelli finds himself looking for a new club once again. According to reports from Italy, Balotelli has been released by his hometown club, Brescia.

The Italian media reports that Balotelli was fired after failing to report for training ahead of Seria A restart. The 29-year-old was already on bad terms with management and coaching staff due to his previous antics that included rejecting to participate in the club’s online training.

While neither side has confirmed the news so far, Balotelli’s exit is considered to be a done deal. This was hinted by Brescia coach Diego Lopez in a recent interview with Gazzetta Dello Sport.

“I thought as the captain of his home city’s team he would have done more,” said Lopez. “He should have and could have done more. It’s too bad. But everyone controls their own destiny. He chose one path and the team has taken a different path.”

Mario Balotelli signed with Brescia in the summer, returning to the city in which he grew up in and being presented as a star that will help the club compete in Seria A. The move was also considered beneficial for Balotelli, as he received an opportunity to regain his form after struggling for the past few seasons. Things obviously didn’t work out that way, as Balotelli is out after just 19 games and five goals.

Earlier in his career, Balotelli was considered to be one of the most talented strikers of his generation. He played with some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Inter Milan and Manchester City, and was a mainstay in Italy’s national team. However, his problematic behavior, both on and off the field, didn’t allow him to reach his full potential, and he spent the past several years struggling to be an impactful player for his clubs. An unsuccessful stint in Brescia is just another proof of that, and it now remains to be seen whether Balotelli gets another chance to resurrect his career.

After a whirlwind career that has seen him play for some of Europe’s biggest clubs and get involved in a handful of controversies, Mario Balotelli is going home.

The polarizing Italian striker has signed a deal on a free transfer with Brescia Calcio, the club from his hometown of Brescia in the north of Italy.

The world-famous striker was linked to a big-money move to Brazilian club Flamengo in recent weeks but reportedly decided to sign with the newly-promoted Serie A squad due to a desire to break into Italy’s squad for the Euro 2020 tournament next summer.

Balotelli has already managed to play for Inter Milan, Manchester City, AC Milan, Liverpool, Nice, and Marseille despite only being 29 years old. The mercurial striker has never been able to stay for a long time at any club due to dust-ups with managers and disciplinary problems that have prevented him from ever realizing his true potential.

The striker scored 8 goals in 25 matches with Nice and Marseille in France’s Ligue 1 last year.

He’ll now have a chance to return home and get his career back on track with a newly-promoted team that will surely look to Balotelli as its main offensive weapon. Could this be the move that he needs?
