If he decides to retire after the 2023-24 season, Croatian midfielder Luka Modric will have a new job waiting for him right away. According to Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, Modric has been offered an opportunity to join Real Madrid’s coaching staff by head coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Reportedly, Modric received the offer a few months ago and initially rejected it. However, it appears that this isn’t a definitive answer, and he could still change his mind.

Sources close to the club say that Modric’s preference is to keep playing, believing he can still be a valuable contributor on the field. But, as things stand, he would have to leave Santiago Bernabeu in order to do so. His playing time was reduced in 2023-24 compared to previous seasons, and he only started 11 games in La Liga.

Modric is currently in the final year of his contract with Real and is set to become a free agent in the summer. He received interest from Saudi Arabia at the end of the last season, and this still might be an option if Real is unwilling to give him a new contract and playing time he desires.

Inter Miami are not done with adding big names to their roster. According to multiple reports, the MLS side is plotting a move for Real Madrid’s star midfielder Luka Modric.

Inter has already added several high-profile names from Spanish La Liga to its roster, including Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba. However, the club feels that adding more star power wouldn’t hurt and believes Modric would perfectly fit in their team. Co-owner David Beckham is reportedly particularly keen on seeing Modric in Miami’s jersey.  

Modric was close to leaving Real this past summer, receiving lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia. However, the 38-year-old Croatian ended up staying in Spain by agreeing to a new one-year deal.

While Modric will be a free agent at the end of the 2023-24 season, Inter reportedly would like to sign him in January. Real, on the other hand, wouldn’t oppose this scenario as Modric hasn’t been prominently used by manager Carlo Ancelotti lately and only started one game in the domestic league.

Luka Modric will miss Real Madrid’s Copa del Rey final matchup against Osasuna on Saturday, May 6 due to a thigh injury. The Croatian midfielder is also a doubt for the first leg of the Galacticos’ UEFA Champions League semifinal clash with Manchester City the following Tuesday night.

“Following tests carried out on Luka Modric by the Real Madrid Medical Services, an injury to the back of his left thigh has been diagnosed,” the club announced in an official statement.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti stated during a news conference on Friday that the club is monitoring Modric’s progress and that he is not yet a definite absentee from the cup final but is highly unlikely to recover in time to face Osasuna.

Ancelotti also expressed his hope that Modric will be available in time to face Man City in the Champions League, particularly since Eder Militao will already be unavailable due to picking up a suspension.
