LSU and head coach Ed Orgeron will go their separate ways after the 2021 NCAA season wraps up. The school confirmed the news via an official press release made by athletic director Scott Woodward.

In the statement, Woodward said that LSU is “forever grateful to Coach O” for the contributions he made during his six seasons as the coach of the Tigers. He explained the decision by saying that the school believes it is “time for a new direction” after underwhelming the past two seasons.

“The search for LSU Football’s next championship head coach begins now,” Woodward added.

Ed Orgeron joined LSU as the defensive line coach in 2015 before being hired as interim head coach a year later after the school fired Les Miles. After leading the Tigers to a 6-2 record in his eight games at the helm, Orgeron had the “interim” tag removed.

In 2019, Orgeron led LSU to a perfect season, going 15-0 and delivering the Tigers their fourth national championship. But it turned out that this success was unsustainable as the team went 5-5 the year after and are 4-3 so far in 2021.

Still, Orgeron hopes to finish his stint with the team on a high note and is committed to seeing out the end of the season.

“We’re going to finish,” Orgeron said in a statement. “We’re not going to blink. I’m going to be right there with them. That’s the reason, Scott and I mutually agreed, that I’m going to finish with this team.”

After more than three months of tough competition and lots of drama and controversy, the final four teams that are left standing to compete for this year’s college football championship have been selected.

The top four teams in the rankings, LSU, Ohio State, Clemson, and Oklahoma, will now head into a semi-final competition to decide who will play for the national championship in January.

LSU was awarded the top seed and will face #4 Oklahoma in the Peach Bowl semifinal game in Atlanta. The Tigers ended up with the top ranking after a 37-10 demolishing of #5 Georgia in the SEC Championship Game on Saturday, whereas Oklahoma squeaked in after an overtime winner in the Big 12 Championship Game over Baylor.

On the other hand, #2 Ohio State and #3 Clemson, both of which are undefeated, will square off in the other semi-final at the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona.

Ohio State, who has looked dominant throughout the season and dispatched of Penn State in Saturday’s Big Ten Championship Game, will look to send the reigning national champions home in what should be a thrilling matchup.

The Peach Bowl and Fiesta Bowl semi-final games will take place on Saturday, December 28th.

LSU’s big win over Alabama on Saturday left no doubt: as of now, the Tigers are the clear top dog in college football heading into Week 12.

LSU knocked Ohio State off of the top of the rankings after a college football’s game of the season on Saturday when went on the road to Tuscaloosa and defeated the #3 and previously-unbeaten Crimson Tide by a 46-41 final score.

The Tigers received 54 of the 61 total first place votes in the AP Poll.

The Buckeyes, who slaughtered the hapless Maryland Terrapins by a 73-14 final, fell to #2 as a consequence of LSU’s landscape-altering victory.

The final two spots in the top 4, which are theoretically the teams that will qualify for this season’s College Football Playoff, are occupied by Clemson and Alabama.

Lurking close behind are Georgia, Oregon, and the surprisingly undefeated Minnesota Golden Gophers. The race for the playoffs is wide open at this point, and it seems certain that at least one one-loss team will have an opportunity to play for the National Championship.

Three weeks remain in the college football regular season, and there are sure to be more than a few surprises left to shock us.
