Leicester City reportedly found a new manager after deciding to part ways with Brendan Rodgers last week. According to multiple reports, the Premier League side is set to hire U.S. manager Jesse Marsch as their new boss.

Leicester identified Marsch as their top target earlier this week and believes the American can keep them in Premier League. The two sides have a few minor details to hammer out on what will be a multi-year deal.

Leicester City moved on from Rodgers after sliding to the relegation zone of the Premier League standings. Since then, they suffered two more defeats and are currently second to last with two points behind Everton at the No. 17.

Reportedly, Leicester believes Marsch’s system is a good fit for their squad and would be a good solution on a long-term basis. He also expressed willingness to work in Championship in the case that the club isn’t able to keep its Premier League status.

Marsch faced the same situation with Leeds United last season when he took the club in threat of relegation and guided them to safety. However, he failed to replicate the success in 2022-23 and was sacked by Leeds United in February. The 49-year-old manager was previously linked with an open job at Crystal Palace, but the club opted to hire former manager Roy Hodgson instead.

Sources have confirmed to ESPN that Chelsea has agreed to the fee proposed by Leicester City for the transfer of defender Wesley Fofana. The Blues are expected to pay an initial fee of ÂŁ75 million for the 21-year-old rising star.

Following weeks of speculation surrounding Fofana’s expected departure from Leicester, the Foxes’ manager Brendan Rodgers decided to omit him from the squad for the Premier League clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, stating that the player was not in “the right state of mind” to play. Fofana was also left out of the Foxes’ team against Southampton during their 2-1 loss at the King Power Stadium the previous weekend.

Fofana is the latest target in what has been a busy summer transfer window for the Blues. Chelsea has been specifically going big at the back, signing the likes of full-back Marc Cucurella from Brighton & Hove Albion and center-back Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli.

After their clash with Leicester City on Saturday, Chelsea next faces Southampton away at the St. Mary’s Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Frank Lampard’s slow start to his managerial career at Chelsea persists following the Blues 1-1 draw with Leicester City at Stamford Bridge. While rising star Mason Mount opened the scoring for Chelsea in the 7th minute, The Foxes eventually leveled the scoring through a Wilfred Ndidi strike in the 67th minute.

Lampard had this to say following the draw: “We were quick, bright, energetic, then we allowed Leicester back in the game and in the second half I was not very happy, we offered them too many chances on the counter-attack.”

Going into the half-time break, Chelsea were the dominant side, however, Leicester City upped the pressure against the home team from the start of the second half. At the conclusion of 90 minutes, Leicester City took a total of 12 shots while Chelsea took 14, with possession being split 51% to 49% in Chelsea’s favor.

This draw is yet another instance of points dropped for Chelsea. Following their 4-0 defeat to Manchester United in their previous match, the Blues sit in 15th place on the league table with one point after two matches. While Leicester City is in twelfth place with two points, they seem to be in much finer form, particularly after a hard-fought goalless draw with a dangerous Wolves side last game week.

Jamie Vardy scored the Premier League’s first goal of 2019 as Leicester beat Everton 1-0 at Goodison Park on Tuesday.

In a low-quality match that displayed Everton’s poor form, Vardy took advantage of errors from Theo Walcott and teammate Ricardo Perreira to score the game’s first goal in the 58th minute.  Vardy celebrated in his usual somersault manner before resuming with the search for a second game.

The game ended 1-0, allowing Leicester to celebrate their third win in the last one month. The 2016 EPL champions beat Chelsea and Manchester City over the festive season, solidifying their position in the top half of the EPL table.

Everton have only won once in the last eight matches and were awful for the better part of Tuesday’s game. They only had one serious attempt at the goal, but made a little bit more effort in the first half compared to the second.

Coach Marco Silva described the game as “a stranger afternoon” and “disappointing.”

“It was a strange afternoon for us, the coach said. “It was a disappointing result and not a good performance. We wanted to give good feelings to our fans and we didn’t achieve that.”

Despite their poor performance, Everton are ranked 10th on the EPL table while Leicester moved up one position to rank seventh.

According to The Gurdian, Danny Drinkwater could be set to leave Chelsea during the summer.

Drinkwater arrived at Stamford Bridge from Leicester City during the summer in a deal worth ÂŁ35 million but has struggled to establish himself at the club as he has gone on to make just 5 Premier League starts and 12 top-flight appearances altogether.

Drinkwater has since also lost his place within the England national team setup and his last appearance for Chelsea came during the clubs defeat to Manchester City more than five weeks ago.  N’Golo Kante, Cesc Fabregas, and Tiemoue Bakayoko are clearly above the 28-year-old Drinkwater in the Chelsea pecking order and it is hard to see him establishing himself within the first-team after Ross Barkley arrived at the club during the January transfer window.

Drinkwater is now expected to leave Chelsea during the summer and his final decision will be revealed after the identity of the Chelsea manager for next season is confirmed.

It may sometimes feel like you’re wasting your time supporting a sports team that hasn’t brought home the silverware in a long while but the truth is, sometimes the underdog turns things around and grabs the glory. Here are 5 times that defied all odds and did just that.

Butler Bulldogs (2010–2011) Basketball Gods

The Butler Bulldogs defied the odds not once, but twice, when they made the championship game of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament in back-to-back seasons. Most attribute it to the clever touches of Head Coach Brad Stevens and his star player, Gordon Hayward.

Sadly, they didn’t quite get the fairy tale ending and lost both finals—but you can’t deny the qualities that took a mid-major school from nowhere to somewhere, twice.

New York Giants (2007) A Super Superbowl

The Patriots owned the decade and it seemed that in 2007 they were going to make their permanent mark on the record books. They were set to be the first ever team to make 16 games undefeated in one season.

They were not. The New York Giants may have been unfancied by the bookies as they headed into the Super Bowl that year, but they played like they didn’t know it. Eli Manning danced across the line a minute from the end, giving the Giants the game and crushing the Patriots’ dreams of immortality in the record books.

Boston Red Sox (2004) Finally The Bride And Not The Bridesmaid

The Boston Red Sox have often been contenders for the playoffs, but when they finally hit the America League Championship Series playoffs in 2004, it looked like they were going home empty handed and fast.

They lost the first 3 games of the series of seven. The New York Yankees appeared to be a shoe in for the series. Then the Red Sox hit back. They became the only team in history to drop their first three games and win a seven game series. Then they went on to take the World Series from the St. Louis Cardinals—an amazing comeback of epic proportions.

Leicester City (2016) Premier League Minnows Get Mighty

Leicester City’s British Premiership win in 2016 was totally unprecedented. Not only had the team won nothing of note for their entire 132-year history, but they were a cobbled-together low budget side that had nearly been relegated the year before.

Yet, they saw off the big money teams of Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur to land their first ever Premiership and become only the fifth team to do so in the league’s history. It seems unlikely that they will ever repeat this feat.

USA Men’s Hockey Team (1980) Cracking The Cold War

During the Cold War, the Olympics became a very serious business. What made the USA Men’s Hockey Team win so special in 1980 wasn’t the fact that they beat the Russian team 4–3. It was that the entire American squad was made up of real amateur players and college kids, while the Russian team was made of the usual Russian professional sportsmen pretending to be amateurs.

It was a truly thrilling achievement which may never be matched in sports history again.
