Sources have confirmed to ESPN that Chelsea has agreed to the fee proposed by Leicester City for the transfer of defender Wesley Fofana. The Blues are expected to pay an initial fee of £75 million for the 21-year-old rising star.
Following weeks of speculation surrounding Fofana’s expected departure from Leicester, the Foxes’ manager Brendan Rodgers decided to omit him from the squad for the Premier League clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, stating that the player was not in “the right state of mind” to play. Fofana was also left out of the Foxes’ team against Southampton during their 2-1 loss at the King Power Stadium the previous weekend.
Fofana is the latest target in what has been a busy summer transfer window for the Blues. Chelsea has been specifically going big at the back, signing the likes of full-back Marc Cucurella from Brighton & Hove Albion and center-back Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli.
After their clash with Leicester City on Saturday, Chelsea next faces Southampton away at the St. Mary’s Stadium on Tuesday evening.
