The Los Angeles Lakers’ superstar LeBron James added another massive achievement to his resume. In a 124-114 loss to the Denver Nuggets over the weekend, James became the first player in NBA history to reach 40,000 career points.

James, who became the NBA’s all-time leading scorer last season, reached the 40K mark early in the second quarter by driving to the basket and converting a layup. He finished the game with 26 points and a career tally of 40,017 points.

Speaking with reporters after the game, James said that his achievement feels special but that he isn’t happy it came in a losing effort.

“Being the first player to do something, it’s pretty cool in this league, just knowing the history, the greats that’s come through the league and then you see some of the greats on the floor tonight, it was great to compete,” James said after the game. “But for me, the main thing, as always, is to win, and I hated that it had to happen in a defeat.”

Despite being in his 21st season as a pro, LeBron James continues to be one of the best players in the game. He is averaging 25.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 7.9 assists per game while shooting a career-high 40.8% from behind the three-point line.

However, not even James’ performances are able to lift the underperforming Lakers. The LA team is currently 10th in the Western Conference standings with a 33-29 record.

The Los Angeles Lakers’ bid to repeat as NBA champions has come to an unceremonious end. Lakers suffered a 113-100 loss in a must-win Game 6 against the Phoenix Suns and bowed out from the playoffs in the first round.

The Suns were led by their star guard Devin Booker, who continued his strong postseason play by torching the Lakers with a 47-point performance. He had help from veteran Chris Paul, who didn’t have a strong scoring night (eight points) but managed to impact the game with 12 assists and strong defense.

The Lakers, on the other hand, were short-handed almost from the beginning. After spending less than five minutes on the court, All-Star Anthony Davis reinjured his ankle and was done for the night. LeBron James tried to do it all by himself from that point on, but his 29 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists didn’t do much to keep the Lakers alive.

The loss was especially tough on James, who not only missed out on a chance to win his fifth ring but also spoiled his perfect playoff first-round record. Prior to the 2020-21 postseason, James made the playoff 14 times and has never been eliminated in the first round.

“It doesn’t matter to me as far as not making it out of the first round,” said James about the record. “What matters to me is getting this team back healthy. Me not being able to be at my full strength throughout this series, that’s my main focus.”

Lakers are now looking towards a long offseason which they will use to become healthy and retool for another try in 2021-22.

In the meantime, the Suns will look to make the most out of their first playoff appearance since 2010. They are scheduled to face the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference semifinals.

Los Angeles Lakers’ superstar LeBron James is setting records even off the basketball court.

Goldin Auctions announced over the weekend that they sold James’ Upper Deck rookie Patch Parallel card from the 2003/04 season for $1.845 million. This represents a record amount for a modern-day card ( cards produced since 1980) and a record for any basketball card.

The auction took place over a period of 26 days, and 34 bids all across the world were received.

The card in question comes from a special series called Patch Autograph Parallel. It contains an autograph and a patch of a jersey, while the number of cards produced corresponded with the player’s jersey number.

James wore No. 23 in his rookie season with Cleveland Cavaliers, which means that 23 cards were made. However, the card that Goldin Auctions offered was only one of two that were graded 9.5 mint gem, which is what drove the price so high.

“There are only two of them, one of them is in private hands, and the other was up for auction,” said Ken Goldin, founder of Goldin Auctions. “So this really was the single best LeBron card that somebody could have hoped to get. It was very active bidding, a lot of bidders, and we’re happy with the results.”

The previous record-holder for the modern card was Mike Trout’s rookie Bowman Draft Chrome Red Refractor in gem mint condition. The card, which was signed by Trout, sold for $922,500.

LeBron James once again proved his greatness. In Tuesday night’s game against the Brooklyn Nets, James helped his Cleveland Cavaliers to get the better end of the 129-123 score with 31 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists. Not only that, but he also became the first player in the NBA history to have 30,000 points, 8,000 rebound, and 8,000 assists. That’s right; no player in the NBA has ever managed to reach such numbers in his career except LeBron James, and he is “only” in his 15th season in the league.

With the long list of so many great players that have come through this league, in the history of this league, for me to be the only [person] in a category, I think it’s pretty cool,” said James after the win over the Nets on Tuesday. “It’s pretty cool. I take pride in my game. I’ve always taken pride in being a triple threat since I started playing basketball, and I never wanted to be labeled as a scorer.

I always wanted to be labeled as just an all-around basketball player; and I get more gratification out of the assists more than anything, because to get my guys great looks or they’re knocking down shots, that means a lot to me.” –he added.

James also posted his achievement on his Instagram profile.

LeBron James has played an exceptionally well all-around basketball in February, averaging a triple-double during the month and becoming the oldest player in the NBA history to do so. In the 2017 NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors, he also became the only player in the league’s history to average a triple-double during the entire series. Although he is 33 years old, James could potentially play on a high level for at least 3 more years, so we are about to see many more firsts and record breaks.
