The Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis is expected to return from injury when his team comes up against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday, so long as no other setbacks are incurred during the pregame warmup. This would be the power forward’s first Lakers game in five and a half weeks after suffering a fractured bone spur and stress reaction in his right foot.

In an effort to ease him back into the sport and ensure a smooth recovery, the Lakers will restrict his playing time to 20 to 24 minutes, with medical personnel predicting that Davis will be on a recovery timeline of 8 to 10 weeks.

Davis has been sorely missed by his Lakers’ teammates, who have struggled to find form since his injury, going 10-10 during his absence. Now, the Lakers sit 13th in the Western Conference standings, far from attaining a playoff spot.

Prior to his injury, Davis was in fine form for the Lakers, averaging 27.4 points and 2.1 blocks as well as career-best averages of 12.1 rebounds per game and 59.4% field goal percentage.

Coach Darvin Ham decided to pull his main rotation pieces with 5:07 remaining in the Lakers’ last game against the Clippers, essentially accepting the 133-115 defeat in order to save their energy for the Spurs game.

The Los Angeles Lakers remain confident in star player Anthony Davis’ ability to return to action within the next week as he continues to recover from a foot stress injury. The team explained that the All-Star power forward is continuing to make progress in his recovery, with much of the pain in his right foot being alleviated along the way.

Having been unable to play for the Lakers since mid-December as a result of his injury setback, Davis has reportedly been ramping up his physical activity lately, however, this remains to a limited extent. Lakers head coach Darvin Ham commented on Thursday that Davis is “progressing really, really, really well.”

Prior to his injury, Davis had been a standout performer for the Lakers this season, sparking a career resurgence by averaging 27.4 points on a career-best 59.4% from the field, 12.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 2.1 blocks and 1.3 steals.

13th in the Western Conference with 20-25, the Lakers are just two games away from a playoff spot. They are set to embark on a five-game road trip starting in Boston on January 28.

It seems like the Los Angeles Lakers can’t catch a break in the past several weeks. They are not just in real danger of missing the playoffs after three straight losses but have now also lost one of their key players. The team announced that forward Kyle Kuzma, who is currently the Lakers’ second-leading scorer with 18.8 points per game, is out with an ankle sprain and could miss one week.

Kuzma sprained his ankle during Monday’s 113-105 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers when he took a drive to the basket and rolled his ankle before limping off the floor.

Lakers have already been struggling with injuries even before Kuzma got hurt, as they are without their starting point guard Lonzo Ball since mid-January. Brandon Ingram, Tyson Chandler, and Lance Stephenson are also nursing minor injuries and might not play this week.

Kyle Kuzma proved crucial for the Los Angeles Lakers this season, taking over the scoring load when the team’s leading star LeBron James was out with an injury. Kuzma, who was a late second round pick in 2017, played 60 games this season and is currently averaging career highs in points (18.8), field goal percentage (46.5 percent),) and assists (2.5) while also getting 5.6 boards per game.
