The Los Angeles Chargers seem to be back on track after a rough start to the 2023 campaign. The LA team dominated the New York Jets in a Monday Night Football clash to claim a 27-6 win and improve to a 4-4 record.

The Chargers’ defense showed up big time, keeping the Jets out of the end zone and only allowing two field goals. They also sacked the Jets’ quarterback Zach Wilson eight times while forcing four fumbles and recovering three.

LA’s special team also showed up to play, especially rookie Derius Davis, who scored a touchdown on a punt return to give the Chargers the early lead.

On offense, the Chargers were less efficient than they would have wanted. Quarterback Justin Herbert had only 136 passing yards without a touchdown, while the running game generated a total of 84 yards.

“The defense played terrific today, came up with some big stops, and got a lot of turnovers,” Herbert said after the game. “Offensively, we can move the ball better. We did a good job not turning the ball over. We had a couple of punts and a few miscues, but those are things that we could fix.”

The Chargers are now riding a two-game winning streak and find themselves second in the AFC West. They are set to face the Detroit Lions next Sunday.

The Jets, on the other hand, suffered their first loss in four games. They are third in the AFC North at 4-4 and play the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 10.

Quarterback Justin Herbert signed a new five-year deal with the Los Angeles Chargers, keeping him on until 2029. Sources reported on Tuesday that the deal is worth $262.5 million.

Included in the contract is a no-trade clause along with $133.7 million in full guarantees and $193.7 million in injury guarantees. While the team itself announced a new multiyear agreement with Herbert, no specific terms were disclosed in the statement.

Based on its average annual value of $52.5 million, this contract makes Herbert the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history. He has proven to be a crucial part of the Chargers’ roster since being drafted in 2020, helping the franchise to its first playoff appearance last year since 2018.

During his three seasons in Los Angeles, Herbert completed 1,316 career passes, the most in history for any player’s first three seasons. He has thrown 94 career touchdowns, which includes three straight seasons with 25 or more touchdown passes.

“I sleep better at night knowing we have a franchise quarterback,” Chargers general manager Tom Telesco said of Herbert. “He’s done so much already in his young career, yet we all know there’s still a lot there because of his commitment to the game.”

The Dallas Cowboys are shuffling their coaching staff after a disappointing playoff exit. The most significant change will come on the offensive side of the ball, with the franchise deciding to say goodbye to their longtime offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.

“I want to thank Kellen for his deep commitment, hard work, and dedication that were a core part of his time with the Cowboys,” said the Cowboys’ head coach Mike McCarthy in a statement, adding that the decision to part ways was “mutual”.

Moore didn’t wait too long to find a new job, having already accepted the offer from the Los Angeles Chargers to be the team’s new offensive coordinator. The move was confirmed by the Chargers on Monday.

The Cowboys’ decision to move on from Moore is slightly surprising, considering that they had the fourth-best offense in points per game and 11th-best offense in yards per game in 2022. However, there is a sense in the building that Dallas can and should do better, especially in the postseason, which is probably why McCarthy decided to make a change. Another reason might be that Moore isn’t “his guy” since he was hired by the previous head coach Jason Garret.

Kellen Moore will now be tasked with getting the best out of the Chargers’ talented quarterback Justin Herbert. Moore will also take on the challenge of fixing the LA team’s stalled running game, which ranked 30th in the league with just 89.6 rushing yards per game.

The Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay has decided to remain with the team going into the new season, the team announced on Friday. The update comes after McVay stated during his end-of-season news conference that he would be taking the “appropriate time” to decide on his next move.

Following a 5-12 season, this was McVay’s worst season with the Rams since joining the team in 2017. The team suffered an array of injury setbacks, including that of starting quarterback Matthew Stafford, wide receiver Cooper Kupp and defensive tackle Aaron Donald.

“I know I love football and I’m so invested in this thing and I’m in the moment right now,” McVay explained. “But at some point too, if you said, ‘What do you want to be able to do?’ I want to be able to have a family, and I want to be able to spend time with them.”

Hired by the Rams just before his 31st birthday, Sean McVay was made the youngest head coach in NFL history. With a record of 67-41, McVay has led the Rams to three NFC West titles, two NFC championships, and the Super Bowl LVI in 2022.

The Los Angeles Chargers edge rusher Joey Bosa returned to practice on Thursday for the first time since undergoing groin surgery in Week 3. Bosa complained about continuous groin discomfort until he tore it completely during the 38-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 25.

Despite his prolonged absence, Bosa has experienced confidence in his return to the field, explaining, “I’m feeling really good. It’s kind of revitalizing, honestly.” He has since been designated to injured reserve, meaning that the Chargers will have 21 days to decide whether or not to reactivate him upon returning to fitness.

“His was something that really caused me a lot of pain and kind of stress throughout the last couple of years, and I’ve gotten to a point where I was used to it and I didn’t understand how much was really wrong,” Bosa said of his injury issue. “Obviously, it sucks to miss all this time, but its honestly something that I really, really needed to get done.”

The Chargers are currently 9-6 and are currently second in the AFC West. With a comfortable lead over third-placed Las Vegas Raiders, this is the first time since 2018 that the Chargers have clinched a playoff berth.

The Los Angeles Chargers hosted free-agent outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy for a visit on Thursday and decided not to let him walk out without a deal in place. The team confirmed the move on their social media shortly after.

Van Noy reportedly inked a one-year deal with the Chargers. However, the financial terms of the agreement are still being kept under wraps.

Van Noy comes to Los Angeles after spending the 2021 NFL season with the New England Patriots. He played in 16 games, making eight starts, and contributed with 66 tackles, 5.0 sacks, a career-high 10 pass deflections, one interception, and one defensive touchdown. The 31-year-old player had one more year left on his deal, but the Pats decided to release him in March in an effort to clear up salary cap space.

The Chargers already made several major defensive moves in the offseason, including signing Van Noy’s teammate from New England, corner J.C. Jackson. They also traded for star pass rusher Khalil Mack and added nose tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day in free agency.

Kyle Van Noy started his pro career with the Detroit Lions, who selected him with the second-round pick in 2014. After two-and-a-half years in Detroit, he was traded to the Patriots, where he established himself as a key member of the team’s defense. Van Noy won two Super Bowls with New England before accepting a big payday from the Miami Dolphins in 2020 free agency. However, his stint with the Dolphins lasted only one year, and he ended up returning to the Pats last season.

Van Noy’s career stats include 424 tackles and 28.5 sacks. He also has 26 pass deflections, three interceptions, and nine forced fumbles.

The Las Vegas Raiders are no longer undefeated in the 2021 NFL season, courtesy of the Los Angeles Chargers and their star quarterback Justin Herbert.

The Chargers entered the Monday Night Football clash against the Raiders as underdogs but ended up dominating the game and shutting down their opponents in three quarters. The Raiders also had just 51 yards of offense in the first half. This set the stage for Herbert, who finished with 222 passing yards and three touchdowns.

Running back Austin Ekeler also had a big night for the Chargers, rushing for 117 yards and one score while adding a receiving TD.

The Raiders bounced back in the third quarter and scored two touchdowns to make it a game. But that ended up being all Las Vegas had to show for, being unable to carry over the momentum to the final period.

There were no standouts amongst the Raiders on Monday night, as quarterback Derek Carr managed just 196 passing yards while the running game seemed inexistent. They had just 48 rushing yards for the night, with Pro Bowler Josh Jakobs managing just 40 yards with his 13 carries.

The Raiders have now dropped to a 3-1 record and find themselves on the third spot in AFC West. The Chargers own the same record but are leading the division thanks to tiebreakers.

Los Angeles Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa expressed his disappointment with the refereeing during his team’s 28-14 win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night, calling the match officials “blind” due to a missed holding call late in the final quarter of the game that resulted in him being hit with what could have been a game-changing penalty.

With just four minutes left on the clock, Bosa threw an incomplete pass; a moment in which he believed that a linesman had been attempting to block him on the play. If Bosa’s claim is correct, then this would be a punishable offense.

Following the Chargers’ win, Bosa expressed his frustration on the matter: “But I mean refs are blind, simple. I’m sorry but you’re blind, like open your eyes and do your job it’s so bad it’s unbelievable.”

While Bosa admitted that he should not have lost his temper at the decision, he still insisted that the officials have should have done a better job, going on to state that the same issues have reoccured over the years.

Fortunately for Bosa’s Chargers, this controversy did not affect their ability to come away with the win, as Derwin James intercepted Carr’s pass to seal the victory just two plays later.

The Las Vegas Raiders’ chances of making the playoffs for the first time in four years are down to a minimum after they suffered a surprising 24-30 overtime loss against the LA Chargers on Thursday night.

The Raiders entered the game as notable favorites, facing a team that was plagued by injuries, as well as being led by a rookie quarterback. However, it turned out that the Chargers came to Allegiant Stadium wanting a win more than their opponents.

The Chargers were the first ones to get points on the board thanks to a nicely executed 78-yard drive that culminated with Justin Herbert’s touchdown pass to tight end Hunter Henry.

The Raiders were close to hitting back but couldn’t find their way to the endzone, and had to be content with a field goal. In the meantime, starting quarterback Derek Carr suffered an injury, and backup Marcus Mariota took his place.

Mariota immediately got in sync with the Raiders’ offense and found tight end Darren Waller for a 35-yard score.

This turned out to be all for the Raiders in the first half, with the Chargers rallying back for 10 unanswered points before the clock ran out.

The third quarter saw an exchange of rushing TDs before Mariota managed to level the score halfway through the fourth quarter.

Both teams attempted to seal the game with a field goal attempt, but the Chargers’ Michael Badgley missed from 51 yards while the Raiders never got theirs off the ground thanks to a bad snap.

In overtime, the Raiders orchestrated a nice drive that ended with them putting three points on the scoreboard. However, the Chargers used their possession much better and took it all thanks to a QB sneak from Herbert.

With this win, the Chargers improve to a 5-9 record and find themselves on a two-game winning streak.

The Raiders, on the other hand, are now 7-7 and out of the playoff picture. They will most likely stay there when the regular season wraps up.

Los Angeles Chargers’ secondary has been hit with another major blow. After safety Derwin James went down for the season during training camp, Chargers now also lost corner Chris Harris for the foreseeable future.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Harris suffered a foot injury during a 16-21 loss to Carolina Panthers on Sunday and will be out for between four and six weeks. Rapoport adds that the Chargers expect the 31-year-old Pro Bowler to return to action at some point this season.

Harris joined Los Angeles Chargers in the offseason, signing a two-year, $20 million deal. He recorded 15 tackles (one for loss) and one pass defended in the first three games with the organization.

Prior to coming to LA, Chris Harris played nine years with Denver Broncos. During that time, he established himself as one of the best corners in the game despite entering the league as an undrafted free agent. Harris has four career Pro Bowl appearances and three All-Pro selections, while he was also named into NFL 2010s All-Decade Team.

Harris’ career stats include 518 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 90 pass deflections, 20 interceptions, and four defensive touchdowns.
