Being left out of Golden State Warriors’ closing lineups in recent games isn’t sitting well with veteran shooting guard Klay Thompson. Speaking with reporters after a 98-109 win against the Brooklyn Nets on Monday, Thompson said that it is “very hard” for him to spend most of the fourth quarter on the bench.

Warriors’ head coach Steve Kerr opted to keep Thompson on the bench in the closing minutes of last week’s 101-121 win over the Memphis Grizzlies. He did the same against the Nets, taking Thompson out with 7:19 remaining in the fourth quarter and not going back to him for the remainder of the contest.

When asked by reporters how he feels about being left out in the most important moments of recent games, Thompson didn’t hide his disappointment.

“You kidding me? Go from, you know, one of the best players … it’s hard for anybody,” said Thompson. “I’ll be honest with you. It’s very hard.”

The 2023-24 season has been a difficult one for Klay Thompson. He is averaging 17.1 points per game, his lowest since his second year in the NBA. Also, he is shooting career-low 37.1% from beyond the arc.

The Warriors are currently sitting 12th in the Western Conference with a 22-25 record. They are 11.5 games behind the leading Oklahoma City Thunder but just one game behind the Utah Jazz, who hold the last play-in spot.

The Golden State Warriors and their star shooting guard Klay Thompson have been engaged in contract extension talks for some quite now. However, it appears that the two sides are still not close to getting a deal done.

According to ESPN’s NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Thompson and the Warriors made “no progress” in their negotiations. Wojnarowski reports that the two sides are “still apart on years and money,” adding that there is a real possibility Thompson will hit the free agency next summer.

The Warriors seem determined to keep their core of Thompson, Stephen Curry, and Draymond Green together in hopes of making another NBA title run. But while they successfully locked Curry and Green on long-term deals, they haven’t been able to get on the same page with Thompson.

Thompson is in the last year of his contract and will earn $43.2 million in 2023-24. Previous reports indicated that the 33-year-old player is looking for a max extension, something that the Warriors are reluctant to give him, considering his age and their huge payroll.

Klay Thompson was a key member of the Warriors’ teams that made six NBA Finals appearances and won four NBA titles since 2015. After missing the entire 2021-22 campaign due to a knee injury, Thompson returned to his usual level last season. In 69 games in 2022-23, he averaged 21.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.4 assists while shooting 41.2% for three.

The Golden State Warriors are currently focused on repeating as NBA champions and getting their fifth title in nine years. However, once the summer comes, the team will have to make some tough decisions, including whether to give another big contract to star Klay Thompson.

In a recent appearance on NBA Countdown, NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski revealed that Thompson expects that the Warriors will give him a max contract extension in the summer. The 33-year-old is set to earn $43 million in the final year of his current deal in 2023-24.

As Wojnarowski pointed out, the Warriors might be a bit hesitant to give Thompson the kind of deal he wants due to the huge bill they are facing next season. Taking everything into account, Golden State might end up paying $500 million in payroll and luxury tax next season.

Thompson himself didn’t give much importance to Wojnarowski’s report when asked about it by the reporters on Sunday.

“I’m seeking a championship,” he said. “And everything else after that will play itself out.”

After struggling with injuries in the past several seasons, Klay Thompson has been healthy and played well for the Warriors in 2022-23. He finished the regular season averaging 21.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game.

The Warriors are currently getting ready for Game 2 of their first-round series against the Sacramento Kings. The Kings got a 126-123 win in Game 1.

Entering Tuesday’s game against the Phoenix Suns, the Golden State Warriors’ All-Star guard Klay Thompson was never ejected from an NBA game. But that would go on to change by the end of the night.

The Suns and the Warriors played a highly entertaining game that saw players going back and forth at each other with emotions going wild. In the midst of it were Thompson and his primary defender for the night, fellow All-Star Devin Booker.

Booker and Thompson trash-talked to each other for the better part of the game, with things getting particularly heated in the third quarter. After one exchange, the two got chest-to-chest, prompting a technical foul call on both players.

Thompson walked away at that point before bumping into Suns’ Mikal Bridges and then showing him away. The refs called a second technical on Thompson after that, sending him to the locker room for the first time since entering the league in 2011.

The Warriors would go on to lose the game 105-134, but Thompson’s teammates didn’t mind the fact he left them stranded.

“After he got thrown out, he had a lot more to say, which I love,” said Stephen Curry. “The back and forth is a part of [the game], and I like that he’s engaged in that respect because it matters to him.”

Thompson scored only two points against the Suns, going 1-8 from the field. Throughout the first four games of the 2022-23 season, the 32-year-old is averaging 11.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game.

The Golden State Warriors issued an update about the health status of All-Star guard Klay Thompson, who is currently recovering from an Achilles injury. According to the team’s post on Twitter, Thompson “made good progress” in the rehab process and is expected to return at some point in the 2021-22 NBA season.

The Warriors followed this up with another tweet, saying that there’s still no timetable for Thompson’s return, which will be based “on his continued progress”. The 31-year-old star is expected to attend training camp, which starts in late September, where he’ll take part “in various controlled drills.”

Previous reports, including one from ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, said that Golden State is optimistic that Thompson returns before the end of 2021 and hopes to have him back on the floor around Christmas.

Klay Thompson hasn’t played basketball since the 2019 NBA Finals when he suffered a torn ACL in Game 6 against the Toronto Raptors. He underwent surgery to repair the damage during the summer and missed the 2019-20 season as a result.

Thompson successfully recovered from the ACL injury by September 2020 and was set to be ready for the 2020-21 NBA season. Unfortunately, he suffered a torn Achilles during a pickup game in November and was forced to sit out another season.

The Warriors were not able to stay competitive without Thompson, failing to make the playoffs since he got injured. After finishing at No. 15 in the Western Conference in 2019-20, they improved to No. 9 last season. Still, they ended up being eliminated from the postseason conversation after losing to the Memphis Grizzlies in the Play-in Tournament.

After a rough start to the season for Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors, the all-time shooting great erupted for 62 points to lead his team to a 137-122 win over the Portland Trail Blazers.

Curry shot an incredible 58.1% from the field, hitting eight three-pointers and connecting on 18 of 19 free throws. The 62-point-night was a career-high for Curry, a two-time NBA Finals MVP and arguably the greatest pure shooter in the league’s history.

After winning NBA Championships in 2015, 2017, and 2018, the Warriors have fallen on hard times after a string of serious injuries to their stars. Curry played in five games last season after breaking his hand, and Klay Thomspon was scheduled to come back from injury this season as well but suffered a brutal ACL injury before the season began.

Curry’s performance on Sunday was the first 60-point game for a Warrior player since Thompson scored 60 in 2016. Curry, who is 32 years old, also became the second-oldest player in NBA history to score 60 points in a game.

However, Curry did miss his first free throw in 80 attempts during the first quarter. Prior to the miss, Curry had not missed a shot from the free-throw line since March 2019.

The NBA reportedly granted Golden State Warriors a Disabled Player Exception due to the season-injury of their All-Star guard Klay Thompson. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Warriors will have $9.3 million to sign a replacement player without having to deal with salary-cap implications.

The exception was determined on the basis of a mid-level exception, and the team has until April 19th to use it.

There are three ways that Golden State can use their $9.3 million exception. The first way is to sign a player from the free-agent market to a one-year deal with the value equal or less than the value of the exception. The Warriors can also claim a player from waivers or trade for a player, but their contracts can’t be longer than one year or be worth more than $9.3 million.

It is important to note that Warriors also can’t divide the exception among two or more players.

Despite the limiting nature of the exception, this still gives Golden State Warriors badly-needed flexibility as they look to return to contention following a disastrous 2019/20 season that saw them finish with the NBA’s worst regular-season record. Warriors previously made several moves to add depth to their roster following Thompson’s injury, including the trade that landed them talented wing Kelly Oubre.

Thompson, who missed 2019/20 with an ACL injury, is ruled out for the next season after rupturing his Achilles during a recent workout.

The Golden State Warriors couldn’t have possibly received worse news on the day of the 2020 NBA draft.

Star shooter Klay Thompson, who was rehabbing from a torn ACL in his left knee and didn’t play all of last season, will now miss the entire 2021 season as well after suffering an Achilles injury in his right leg.

The Warriors were heading into this year with optimism, armed with the second pick in the NBA draft, which they used to select center James Wiseman, and hoping to get Thompson back and reunited with their other superstar guard Stephen Curry.

Thompson injured his left knee in the last game of the 2019 NBA Finals, in which the Warriors lost to the Toronto Raptors. The Warriors struggled the entire 2020 season without Thompson and with Curry missing more than four months with a broken left hand.

According to the team, Thompson injured his right leg while working out in California.

With Curry turning 33 soon, the Warriors are not looking to waste another season, especially considering that they drafted the big man that the team desperately needed to take attention away from Curry.

The Warriors are expected to be aggressive in free agency in an effort to find a suitable replacement for Thompson in order to potential compete for another title.

The Golden State Warriors, who are already looking forward to life without star forward Kevin Durant, appear to be primed for a season without another sharpshooting superstar.

Just before Golden State’s Friday opener against the Los Angeles Clippers, coach Steve Kerr revealed that shooting guard Klay Thompson is not expected to play in the 2019 season after suffering a torn ACL in Game 6 of last season’s NBA Finals.

The sharpshooting Washington State alum exited in the third quarter of the series-clinching loss to the Toronto Raptors, unable to lead the Warriors back to what would have been their third consecutive Finals triumph.

Although it was long assumed that Thompson would miss a large portion of the season, Kerr’s words made official what many Golden State fans had long feared. They will be without the five-time All Star until next season, barring an unexpectedly quick recovery.

Thompson, who has averaged 19.5 points per game and established himself as one of the best shooters in the league in his eight NBA seasons, will undoubtedly be a big loss for a Golden State team that is looking to find its identity in the post-Durant era.

The Warriors will look to the newly-acquired D’Angelo Russell, acquired from the Brooklyn Nets over the offseason, to soften the blow of the loss of Thompson.

The upcoming NBA season is expected to be highly unpredictable but there is one thing that most people agree upon: the Golden State Warriors dynasty is over. After Kevin Durant’s departure and Klay Thompson’s ACL injury, Warriors are expected to take a back seat and become a fringe playoff team at best. But Thompson wouldn’t exactly agree with this.

In a recent interview with ESPN, Thompson said that it’s “premature to say there’s no more dynasty” and that Warriors still have a team capable of greatness.

“To say the dynasty is over is a little ignorant because I’m going to come back better and even more athletic. It would not be smart to count the Dubs out,” – Thompson added.

To Klay Thompson’s point, Golden State Warriors still have a formidable team that could make noise in the West. But this is only if he manages to bounce back from the injury and return to his old form. Even then, things will be difficult for Golden State as the Western Conference became a lot tougher compared to last year. Los Angeles Lakers, LA Clippers, Houston Rockets, and Utah Jazz all made some big moves in the offseason while other teams like Denver Nuggets and Portland Trail Blazers added complementary pieces to already strong rosters.

Thompson is expected to be out for around eight months recovering from ACL tear in his knee. Whether the rest of the Warriors can hold the fort without him remains to be seen.
