The Golden State Warriors couldn’t have possibly received worse news on the day of the 2020 NBA draft.

Star shooter Klay Thompson, who was rehabbing from a torn ACL in his left knee and didn’t play all of last season, will now miss the entire 2021 season as well after suffering an Achilles injury in his right leg.

The Warriors were heading into this year with optimism, armed with the second pick in the NBA draft, which they used to select center James Wiseman, and hoping to get Thompson back and reunited with their other superstar guard Stephen Curry.

Thompson injured his left knee in the last game of the 2019 NBA Finals, in which the Warriors lost to the Toronto Raptors. The Warriors struggled the entire 2020 season without Thompson and with Curry missing more than four months with a broken left hand.

According to the team, Thompson injured his right leg while working out in California.

With Curry turning 33 soon, the Warriors are not looking to waste another season, especially considering that they drafted the big man that the team desperately needed to take attention away from Curry.

The Warriors are expected to be aggressive in free agency in an effort to find a suitable replacement for Thompson in order to potential compete for another title.
